My memories of Halifax was that their fans are their own worst enemies.
Seems every game they play the referee get very loudly booed, from the start when they were warming and continuously until end of game.
Obviously referees are honest and professional and accept booing is part of the game, but one wonders if on 50/50 tackles they favour the opposition team.
Whenever FGR played them the officials decisions always seemed fair [at least towards FGR ;)] .

Stevenage looked solid against us, and doing well again tonight. Looking more and more like a three horse race for survival.

We are certainties for the drop. Southend and Stevenage have had similar games to what we have had tonight and picked up two clean sheets in a row.

You've scored way more than either of the other two, and conceded less too. You won't need to win many to survive, it's perfectly possible.

Goals have dried up since Jolley came in, he's banking on us being more solid but that's impossible when we give teams a one goal head start. We looked more likely to score under bloody Dunn.

Aye it’s remarkable southend are above barrow when you look at the GD, but the odd 1-0 win is all that matters.

Would prefer southend to go down out there 3 as it’s a dump and miles away. In fairness barrow and grimsby aren’t much better, just they’re more easily accessible.

Fuck knows what grimsby will do if they go back down, i don’t think i could hack the conference again

Well done Stevenage, like Scunthorpe they’ve found some solid form and put some daylight between themselves and the drop.

Darlington refused to play last night (Non-League North). I am still clinging onto the thought that there will be no relegation this season; otherwise it's Grimsby and one other side to go.

lost 1 nil to Salford last night - but there was nothing between the teams other than a defensive error that gave them a nearly open goal - they didn't manage a shot on target worth the name apart from that.

Teams don't need to be better than us to win, they're banking on us gifting them a goal with a defensive mistake and we have that little attacking threat the game's over.

There seems to be a lot of people praising how we matched Salford, but the real picture is that they controlled the match without any effort whatsoever. They weren't busting a gut to hit two or three goals because they were having a comfortable time knowing we wouldn't score if we played all day. At no point did it seem like we were turning up the pressure.

On paper it was a close game - in reality there was a chasm between us.

I was living in Korea for all but the first (which was the shittest) of our years down there so I'm well up for going back down if we're allowed to go to games. League Two is boring as fuck, been pretty much everywhere in this division, many of them multiple times. It's shite being at the bottom of this division, which is all we're gonna be unless we spunk money we don't have up the wall like half of the rest of the division.

For what it's worth though, I don't think we'll go down. I think we'll click at some point and get out of trouble.

If other clubs can do well without spending loads of money surely it’s not beyond the reach of Grimsby.

I don't think we'll turn it around in time and will in fact go down again.

Luckily we have Paul Hurst who won us the ‘played well against 10 men’ cup last week so we cannot possibly go down, especially with our staggering record under him so far

Oh it's definitely possible, but other than Morecambe and perhaps Carlisle the current top 10 all have bigger budgets than us I'd imagine. Looking at promoted teams over the last 5 years you've got Crewe who didn't spend much (but did it by nurturing the majority of their squad from their youth setup), Wycombe, Accrington and Wimbledon who did it on a reasonable budget. So 3 out of 20 teams to have been promoted in the last 5 years have gone up without decent financial backing or a long term plan based around their academy. Not great odds. Throw Fenty into the mix preventing us from having analysts and fitness coaches and it's a tall order to expect us to even come close to a challenge. Hopefully those days'll be gone soon.

Also worth noting Accrington, Wimbledon and Wycombe are all closer to bigger cities than us making them more appealing locations.

If this takeover goes through we need to stay up, otherwise it's come at the wrong time, going down now with new owners will set us back 5 years.

Staying up and new owners could see us as an established lge 1 side in 5 years instead, not only that but at the minimum a professional football club proper rather than just in name as the last 6 years have been.

The way Southend and Stevenage have picked up points tells me we’re going down, we just do not look capable of doing that.

I always enjoy FGR playing away at your place.
The home crowd are so passionate and noisy [and yes biased] that it was always fun.
Pain leaving the ground as all the surrounding roads were always gridlocked.

I think we are down as well, however if those two sides and Scunny, and Mansfield the other month, show you anything it's one win suddenly leads to 3 wins and you pull away.

We just need that first win, especially with pretty much a new side, one win can easily lead to 3 as well. It might not pull us away but it will drag a few back into it.

The standard of this league is poor this season, no reason we can't get out of it, but time and games is quickly running out, we needed this side at the start of Jan not at the end of it.

I don’t think they use that terrace anymore mate.
We do but only for games we know are going to be huge for travelling support. We used some of it last season for Notts and Stockport at home. Needless to say we would have again this season given the chance

Agree with you on that, though we’ve gone and got one of the better managers down here, and scunthorpe actually have a half decent starting xi just need to be lucky with injuries.

If one of the 3 go on a run where you get say, 9 points from 12 it’ll be very different very quickly

Okay, using that logic there'd be no promotion from League 2
EFL is three divisions. National League is three divisions. They are not connected leagues. Thats the logic the FA runs on. Its stupid having the top division seperate from the next three divisions and then the National League seperate from them but football is not run sensibly. The FA are a waste of time and space.

I agree with that, but if the EFL argued that no one should be promoted from the National League because a lack of relegation has skewed the competitiveness (it’s not going to, but anyway), there’s no reason why the teams at the bottom of League One wouldn’t just argue the same thing.

We went through all of this last season with Stevenage arguing that no one should be promoted on PPG. There’s nowt in the EFL rules that covers that, as far as I can remember it’s up to the National League to put forward who they want for promotion, via whichever fashion they like. The only thing that there is an issue around is the relegated teams having a league to go into, but if that wasn’t an issue last summer then I can’t see it being one this time.

Probably need the clubs outside the Premier League to show some balls and threaten to withdraw from the FA Cup and all FA competitions unless they actually do their job and look after football and not just the big clubs. Failing that form a Football Federation and resign en masse. All the clubs and most fans know what the problems are. They can provide the solution. The bigger clubs want B teams in the EFL so they are covered for joining a European League. Fuck them.

Might fare better if you actually targeted goals rather than penalties
