Crawley at home looks about as winnable as they come, so if ever there was time for a new manager bounce it would be the perfect timing. That would then give a fresh boost to the club too to have a promotion-winning manager back and straight in with a big three points.
If only...

Surprised there hasn't been any suncream 'gags' on here yet. Welcome back to English football Mr Brown, apparently he is owed some money from Lee Power as well IIRC.
Maybe he read reports that some of the teams at this stage of the season were 'already on the beach' and rushed back to protect his sunbed.

Surely Colchester can’t have run up £30m of debt? Everyone knows we were a complete basket case running up debts for years before being taken over, and ours weren’t even a third of that. Struggling to see how any League Two club could be in that much debt tbh apart from maybe Bolton.
bolton have very little debt......please move on

I think another couple of wins from the 8 remaining games should be enough. Another thing we've got in our favour that we didn't 6 weeks ago was that we are now ahead of Colchester, right behind Walsall (who were horrific against us), and have games in hand over everyone.

I agree the run in is tough but when the pressure's on at the end of the season strange results are thrown up, form over the season can somehow go out the window. With a league as competitive as this any game is a tough one especially in this season like no other, but teams pushing for promotion may look at games against the bottom 5 or 6 and are already counting the three points and maybe that's where they come unstuck. Rob Kelly said himself recently that there's every chance we will pick up the points we need in the games we weren't expecting to get anything.

We've already beaten two playoff/auto chasing sides in Cheltenham and Newport in the last 10 games. If we don't stay up from this position then we don't deserve to.

Just seen this post and I don't know if you were referring to my post when you said the teams at the top are already counting the three points. I wouldn't blame you if so because I should have worded my post a little better.

I did say 'I hope we're not the ones to send Grimsby down' and I know that comes across as 'we are going to beat them if we need the three points to go up'. What I should've said was that I don't like us to be the ones to send anybody down to the NL, be it Grimsby, Barrow or Southend.

Personally, I consider those games against the bottom four sides to be as tough if not tougher than games against the top sides. Back in early Feb Southend held us to a goalless draw here at the Abbey, and after that game I posted on the Camb forum saying I was glad that we only had one game left against a relegation threatened side while our rivals all had 2-4 games such games. In the same post I also said that the bottom 4 were going to have a big say on the promotion battle.

Such a significant if.

I'll only start to believe it's possible if we win tomorrow, which I still don't fancy to happen.

Meanwhile, Ron Martin has shown that he has learned absolutely nothing from the past 3 years. Clueless mug.

Although the result in itself doesn't stand out by any stretch I think the point gained at Colchester became a little more valuable tonight.

Big contract to pay up Moseley was on 3 years.

Southend's impotency in front of goal is the only thing that is going to keep us up.

Have to admit whilst I did think we would just about fall over the line on this I never expected us to do it the way we have done.

I think the whole thing is near enough done now. Today was the big chance for Southend and a point is just not cutting it at this stage.

Their main hope now is that they have Colchester to play, that could be a game to be watched from behind the sofa never mind behind closed doors.

realistically it’s between grimsby southend and colchester.

in 2 games time colchester host southend, a home win there should pretty much take out the bottom 2.

We won't beat them. 0-0 all over it. We're down

Think it is between us and Southend now, and I think we'll stumble over the line without too much of a struggle.

I would expect Southend to lose at Exeter meaning as long as we avoid defeat at home to them, we'll still be four points clear with three to go even if we were to lose at home to Walsall at the weekend. Plus the better goal difference and Southend would need a minimum of five points from the last three games which just doesn't seem at all likely.

Losing that game would change things, of course, and there can be odd results elsewhere but as long as we don't I think we'll be ok. All three of us at the bottom seem to be whimpering along to the end of the season with little fight (apart from Grimsby).

There's fight in our team, just absolutely no quality, self-belief or bravery.

Nah not anymore, it’s just between Colchester and Southend now, our goose is well and truly cooked now I’m afraid.

We’ve had more than enough chances to claw it back recently but we’re just not good enough, the only one of those games where it wasn’t ourselves to blame was at Salford but in all the others that we drew it was our own failings that cost us.

It’ll come down to the Colchester/Southend game. If Colchester survive then they’ll be fine. If Southend beat them then it’s open and even gives Grimsby a shot if they can get their shit together.

Barrow safe now after their win last night. Even if they lose their game in hand, Southend aren't going to get 10 points from their final 5 games to catch them.

Unusual to have as few as three teams in a relegation battle with 5 or 6 games left? Always feels like there are 6 or 7 still in with a shout at this stage.

Who's Grimsby's game in hand against?
