Serena 5-1 up and serving for the match (twice) and she gets it back to serve. Great effort.

edit - then after breaking her twice she goes and loses her serve to love :ffs:

Congratulation Serena on winning yet another grand slam, and she now holds all four slams for the second time. Incredible stuff and what a player she is. Muguruza played well and i'm sure she will win a slam in the near future, but today is all about Serena.

What an effort by Muguruza.

If Serena wins the US Open this year she should be regarded as unquestionably the best player ever, that's if she isn't already. Her win loss record in Slams finals is 21-4, which is beyond words. And she has missed many Slams through injury and personal reasons in her career.

Winning the US would mean she would be level with Graf on Slams won as well as completing the Grand Slam and for me that means more than the insanely consistent records Evert and Navratilova set.

Nah, I've never really liked him mate.

I wonder why.... ;)

I'm actually beginning to get annoyed with Djokovic's defensive game, so even though I admire Federer but don't particularly like him as a person, his swashbuckling tennis more than makes up for that, and hence I hope he can add another Wimbledon today to help cement his GOAT status.

I'd put it between Serena and Navratilova. Both have taken tennis to another level during their era.

Mind you, I'm not sure Serena will still be winning Grand Slam matches when she is nearly 50 like Navratilova did. She is one of a kind for me.

Well done Mark. Good little contest that. Happy with my 3rd but a few early falls never really saw me in it.
I'm clueless when it comes to the women it seems........................It's like a metaphor for my life this competition.

Me too, care to enlighten me? I always thought he was just a miserable, unsporting prick but you obviously have some insight...

Always find it odd when people talk about sportsmen's personalities. Don't think you can judge any of them by their on court behavior when emotions are high or even their interviews.

Anywya, head says Djokovic in 5 again, heart says Fed in 4.

In an individual sport then yeah, unless you blindly just support anyone that represents your own nation then there isn't much else to really go on unless it's things like technique and style. Those two things are actually a big part of the reason why I and a lot of people prefer to watch Federer over Murray.

Guilty, I only watch Wimbledon - is Murray different for the rest of the tennis calender?

You can't gauge an opinion on someone when you only watch him a couple of times a year. :)

Talking of Murray, i thought his decision to receive first against Federer was very bizarre to say the least, especially when you consider how well Federer has been winning his service games. Surely it's better to serve first and get a lead and put the pressure on your opponent straight away. You can be winning 3-0 in no time at all if you break in between service games.

Technique, what does that even mean? Murray has incredible technique, as do all top tennis players. You can say Federer's style of play makes him the best to watch for you but that style didn't help him all those years where Nadal schooled him on all surfaces did it.

The way someone plays the game, perhaps I should have just used the word style and left out the technique part. Federer's style of play is why I cheer him on, he's great to watch, whether Nadal got the better of him over the years or not is completely irrelevant to that.

Said Federer in 4 and whilst still plausible it's difficult to see him take the next 3 without reply- and I'd always expect Djok to take a fifth set decider.

Isn't it nice listening to Roddick and Henman speak clearly and thoughtfully rather than a Lloyd/Castle fawning over every shot as if it's the best ever despite the standard always being very high.

Federer wasting a shedload of break points is pretty much standard for him.

I've seen this too many times before, it's like Federer vs Nadal all over again.

Djokovic will win this, i have no doubt about it.
