Probably didn't help that the 2 players involved were simply serve bots.

Is it worth him putting himself into the first round just to lose to some journeyman though? Would be even sadder really.

At least he won it though, I always thought that whatever happened for the rest of his career following that he could retire happily after 2013.

.
Quite - he doesn't want to hobble around maybe winning a game or two but then losing to the first half decent player he faces.

Nadal wins again. 18 Slams now, 2 behind Federer again.

Least Thiem gave him a game for a set or so but Nadal keeps on being the King of Clay.

His record there is something that may never be beaten in our lifetimes, maybe in about a hundred years time there'll be another player so dominant on the surface. And you could certainly see him winning next year too.

It does skew his total massively by such a proportion on the surface but you have to also remember that he beat peak Federer at Wimbledon and Fed has never beaten any version of Nadal at the French.

Impressive from the 15 year old Gauff beaten Venus Williams in straight sets .

Not so from Zverev - another flop in a Grand Slam.

Nadal v Federer tomorrow.

Might never see that again at Wimbledon. Crazy to think they've not played each other there since that 2008 final.

Nadal dug in at the end but Federer was a class apart - hope he wins the final

He won’t though. It looked like Federer served great today but Djokovic will be returning loads of those serves that were aces today.

Maybe Serena will never get that record ?

2nd year in a row she had been outplayed in the final .

Fully deserved for Halep - hopefully get the credit she has earnt .

Nobody does on court meltdowns quite like her. Plays like she has never seen a tennis ball before at times and mentally collapses, unable to hit anything. Mad to think how many Slams she's won in spite of this. She looked like she gave up towards the end there, not even running for gettable balls anymore.

I suspect she realised early on that she just wasn’t fit enough to compete at that level, at least not against an in-form Halep, and the mental lapses came from that.

Bit of a poor spectacle, IMO. A grand slam finalist should not be breathing out of their arse after a set and a third (approx. 45 minutes of play), but I can’t say I blame Serena, really. She’s been in similarly bad shape numerous times before and won, such is the sheer rubbishness of women’s tennis. Really not that ridiculous to think she could do it again.

Amusing to think that whatever Federer and Djokovic do tomorrow will earn them the same prize money as the ladies earned for their 56 minutes of work today. Another victory for equality!
