Gurney will be in the Prem next year. Has a fan favourite walkon tune, develops heat from crowds and can throw world class darts. Plus he'll draw more fans in Ireland. Ticks all the boxes for Hearn.

I'd have fancied my chances at beating that MvG tonight, I think he was on spice or something.

Looks like Phil Taylor will be going out with a 16th World title...

Never hear the end of that then!

Match play title not the world's. Although I suppose it is a world title in a way. The man is a legend , what a performance at 56 year old. Price,Barney, mvg,Lewis and Wright. It doesn't get any tougher and he's destroyed the lot

Was there Friday night. Taylor against MVG was sensational. Really pleased he has won at Winter Gardens.

Great chance for a new name on the trophy. Peter Wright will be favourite now, but the likes of Barney, Mensur, Gurney and Chizzy will be in the mix.

Shame Rob Cross went out last night. He's a quality player but just never got going against a solid and steady Steve Beaton.

Thornton will probably bloody win it. The only tournament he ever does well in because of the double start.

He needs to. He's defending 100k in prize money from his win at the 2015 event. Provisionally down to 24th in the rankings at the moment!

I reckon Whitlock, without looking at the stats he seems to have been playing better from what I've seen. 4-1 looks comfortable for Gurney but big John had two darts to pull it back to 3-2

Hopefully Whitlock wins. Gurney comes across as a bit of a tosser. All the dramatics at the end of the Thornton match were cringeworthy.

I fear Whitlock may do one of his bottle jobs though.

Suspect there hasn't been many 10-0 whitewashes as Whitlock handed out to Alan Norris!

Went into the local Inter Sport the other day, found some of the new Van Barneveld darts at £78. I always wondered why some darts are so expensive and what the difference is considering they're only darts and they're all the the same, surely? I had a throw with them and I'd never been so consistent, hit a 180 and no end of 140s and 100s. So if there's any dartists here, don't hesitate to spend a bit extra because the balance of them will really help.

Young Berry van Peer getting riddled with dartitis. I know just how he feels after going through two stints of it myself. Obviously for him it's his career that gets put on halt but it's a horrible thing to have to deal with. It's demoralising when you know your level and you find it physically impossible to score anything.

Gurney playing Taylor now, 4 legs each with Taylor getting grumpier with each Gurney win.

Rob Cross is playing incredible darts here.

Even more incredible is the fact he has only just turned 27. He looks mid 40's.

Peter Wright with one of the best comebacks ever from 14-8 down to beat Anderson, he was behind the whole match. Sadly he's going to lose another final to MvG later on.

MvG beat Taylor with ease 16-8.

Only top form Anderson can live with him when he goes into that turbo mode like he did from 10-10 onwards there.

Been some cracking matches so far. Gutted to see Joe Cullen crash out but he just didn't deserve it on the night. Was hoping to see him have a good run because he's got the game in there somewhere.

Fancy Wade to drop out tonight against Keegan Brown.

Can anybody see anyone other than MVG?

Can only see an on song Anderson having the game to beat him (or an extremely inspired Barney)

They are the only 2 who can beat him, IMO. Barney always turns up against MvG, that match last year was the highest standard of darts I've ever seen.

Anderson is going for his 4th straight final and there's really only Taylor realistically able to stop him on his side of the draw. Peter Wright has had health issues which don't bode well for 2 weeks worth of darts. I can only see another MvG v Anderson final, when they are firing they are simply on another level to all the rest. If Gando brings his top form then he can match MvG for sure.
