He seemed to enjoy every minute of it. Wouldn't surprise me if he was tempted to make the switch after all this time. Would be great if he did, although I do doubt it.
16-6 win over Smith and 170 checkout to win it. There's only Taylor and Anderson who are not overawed mentally when playing MvG, everyone else crumbles. Similarly those are the only 2 who can have an effect on MvG's mentality, he knows he can demolish everyone else.
Great final. Taylor could have built up an even bigger lead as he started on fire and MvG couldn't hit a treble. He let MvG back into the match of course but the second half it was all MvG and I didn't feel he would lose once ahead. Taylor is still ridiculous to beat over a long format though. Clean sweep of all majors at age 26, makes you wonder how many he will end his career with.
Really good final. Only been able to watch intermittently throughout the tournament, but enjoyed that last night. MVG's the sort of player that no matter how far behind he is, you always feel he has a shot. Really enjoyed it.
Draw for the World Champs this morning, some interesting ties there that should make decent games. Benito van de Pas vs Max Hopp is a real unfortunate one, two talented young players and one has to leave at the first round stage. If Benito is anything to go by this weekend, it won't be him...
MvG big favourite and for me he can only be beaten at Ally Pally by Taylor or top form Gary Anderson like has been the case in recent years. Anderson's form has been poor since winning the Premier League so be interesting to see if he can get his game back in time for the big one, if he does then he can win it again. Barney is an outsider because of his ranking and is lined up to face MvG in Round 3. I really can't see past a MvG v Taylor final this year unless Anderson is on top form.
Loz Ryder, another one to add to the awful throwing action club. Fidgeting about with the dart and moving all over the place before releasing the dart.
Darts back on tonight. Been a decent tournament with some surprises and almost surprises. Time for the tournament to kick on a bit now though. Looking forward to the RVB/Peter Griffin second round tie.
Jelle Klaasen was the outstanding player so far for me. His performance would of rivalled MVG, if Jelle can keep that consistancy he could go really far.
He needs some of that swagger back doesn't he? He'll have a real tough game next round though as he'll get Mensur Suljovic. Looking at it there's some crackers already set for the last 16. We've already got MVG vs Barney, and Anderson vs VDV plus we could add Wright vs Chisnall to that mix. Norris vs Webster is one I can see going all the way too.
