Easy enough, work for me he'll say, win the league and become a legend. At City or Chelsea you'd be just another cog. It may be that he fancies working under Klopp more so than Guardiola too.

Bit harsh to say they have lower standards of what they consider a legend

The other clubs? Well it would be true I'd say as both City and Chelsea have won the league fairly regularly, whilst Liverpool haven't done so for so long now, that any of those players that were to potentially win the league with them would go down as legends (under this generations set of fans anyway).

Paul Joyce says he wants Liverpool but fee yet to be agreed.

Are we really going to spend 60m?

Technically the Reds never won "the league", only the "First Division" ;) (*nit-picker mod off*)

Also Emil Forsberg should be on Klopp's radar.

Forsberg and Timo Werner was mentioned too. Are the Reds doing "Bayern's job" to weaken the Bundesliga Opponents when they show some quality ;).
Nah, seriously: I don't think one of them will go now to Liverpool. It's too exciting at the moment at Leipzig with the Champions League next season and some hope that Bayern won't be so dominant next season after Lahm and Alonso retired, Boateng again injured....(yeah, I know they'll win it nonetheless but man can hope ;) )

Redmen had a Liverpool fan whose a Bundesliga journalist on their site the other day and he was pretty much saying the same thing, that the only player potentially that could switch to Liverpool from all the rumours floating around, was Naby Keita, and even then that would be at a push as Leipzig have no intention of selling anyone as they want to give the CL a good go.

Nah Les Reed will leak to our favoured journalists that it's £60m but it'll be worth a potential £60m.

Les Reed can fuck off if he sells yet another one of our best players to Liverpool, it's a fucking joke.

Would you prefer if he sold him to Man City for less?
Not that that is currently on the table, but just wondering the level of discontent to once again be Liverpools feeder.

Van Dijk to Liverpool is gathering far too much pace ffs. :( Thought Man City and Chelsea were meant to have all the money:

Van Dijk has stated he wants to join Liverpool according to the BBC. Hope this is true as it means we should be favourites as long as we match the fee wanted.

50m squids for Saints by the looks of it. That's another top dollar sale they'll bank assuming it completes, they negotiate well. Liverpool again though..

Meanwhile various papers report Real Madrid will bid 135m Euro for Mbappe...Not a PL rumour I know, but wow.

Real will surely be selling Benzema or Bale along with James to fund that one if it were true! :D

The fact that he chose us over City and Chelsea makes me more keen but I'm still not convinced he's top class. But then again there aren't many alternatives out there and we desperately need another centre back. It's a shitload of money though.

He looked class at Celtic and Southampton paid big bucks (for the former at least) to get him, and he has excelled in the PL and is an upgrade on Lovren that's for sure. Said it before, if he could help cut down by 10-15 in the goals against class, then it's money very well spent.

What's he meant to do if the Van Dijk wants to leave, states a preference for Liverpool and Liverpool match Southampton's valuation?

I wouldn't pin too many of your hopes on Liverpool signing Lindelöf; United have supposedly been working on a deal to sign him for months with the final details including a medical being arranged as we speak.

Sadly I know, he would have been great for us, but it seems he is United bound, although anything can happen.

You won't regret this one Bill. Same as the Mane one last summer and the latter has far exceeded initial expectations at Liverpool.

£30m for Mane looks cheap these days.

Good to know that you rate him highly though, I've not seen much besides the odd compilation video so I'm not best placed to judge him.

If he wants to leave its a decent price, defenders generally go for a little less than the more glamorous positions like attacking mids and attackers. You could get more if he doesn't mind what club he goes to and there was a bit of a bidding battle but if it happens for £50m it's hardly a steal on our part.

I'd personally like us to test him. Reject Liverpool's offer, we had our chairman saying how we could turn down £60m for him last month and that fat c*** Les Reed saying it would be a quiet summer, so prove it and don't lie to the fans yet again. VvD doesn't seem like the type to throw his toys out of his pram but I of course could be wrong. Him leaving weakens us massively and while replacing CBs is something we've been good at (Lovren and Alderweireld), I'd rather us do what we did to Wanyama and Schneiderlin. His price won't be affected if we choose to keep him here for one season.

On the flip side should we be happy enough to sell him then we have to have a better window than last season. No more of this topping the net spend table bullshit. It's possible we will lose Cedric and Bertrand along with some of the squad players as well, we absolutely cannot afford to sign more Championship shite like Nathan Redmond. The cracks started to show last season, it shows how poor the league is outside the top 7 that we finished 8th.

Unfortunately, there are very few clubs in a position to turn down that kind of money for a player who isn't blatantly worth considerably more. Especially when it's combined with the player expressing a desire to move (assuming that's true, I've not seen his comments on Liverpool confirmed 100% yet).

I do respect your opinion Harv and you're right, I was quite ambivalent towards Mané until he just hit the ground running and hasn't stopped since.

That said, don't you agree that van Dijk still has some way to go? He's still rash in challenges I feel and his positional play isn't the best. The latter doesn't show as much because he's so incredibly good in the air, but I fear it will be a telling weakness when he has to cover more space for us than he does for Southampton. Similar to how Lovren's weaknesses showed when he signed for us, albeit for him it was more a case of questionable decision making.

I don't know, I just feel that if we're going to nigh double our transfer record on a centre back it should be a player for whom there are no doubts about, and van Dijk isn't quite there yet I feel. Maybe Southampton going along with your line of arguing could be the best for all parties.

On the other hand you'll get more for VvD than ẃe will for Mahrez.

Yeah, Alderweireld was a better centre-back for us than Van Dijk, so there is still a bit of work to do. However, he is still just 25 and has got time to grow into one of the best defenders in Europe.

It's worth noting that before January hit last season only Tottenham and Chelsea had conceded less goals than us. After 17 games we had conceded just 16 goals and then taking Van Dijk and Fonte out we ended up with the worst goals against record in the league's top eight.

So, he could make a huge difference to that Liverpool back four, which has been pretty awful (to be kind) for a number of years now.

Also, £50m is absolutely massive money to a little club like Southampton. However, the fact that the reported price has received more uproar than delight by our own club's fan base shows how big a player you're getting. I reckon this deal and a striker who isn't Mario Balotelli or Rickie Lambert will turn you into title contenders.
