You clearly could afford to accommodate Mahrez last season when you, y'know, won the league.
Yes and what a magical season it was, but your a Man U fan and can have no idea what it is like to support a team like Leicester. Success for me next year would the second worst title defence on record, anything above that is a fantastic bonus.

What does me being a United fan have to do with you contradicting yourself about Mahrez?

The fact is you can accommodate a player like him as evidenced by you winning the league with him as your BEST PLAYER last season. You don't need a 10 world class sprinters in the team to play someone like Mahrez.

Mahrez, Kante, why do you do this to us? :(

Not impressed with Leicester's summer so far, I assumed they would have had a few big (or really promising) names by now given their elevated status, increased revenue and the lure of playing for a fairy-tale club. They'll surely need a bigger and better squad playing in Europe next season. Instead they appear to be losing their two best players (Mahrez being their best) and replacing them with...?

I guess they will be willing to spend big when the money for both players comes through. Still very disappointing though. :(

What did you expect? Them to build on last season's success? Very wishful thinking that.

Just because something happens once doesn't mean it will happen again.
I've watched Mahrez since he has been with us and I'm willing to bet that if he stays in the prem next year, he will not have the same impact with his new club, either in terms of goals or assists.

Not exactly sticking your neck out there in thinking Mahrez won't have player of the season statistics again, he had computer game numbers last season. I think whereever he goes, a team would rightly accommodate him and he'll be pretty successful. He'll be one of the best play makers in the league in terms of combined goals and assists.

Not sure if sarcasm. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. :p

Fair enough it was an exceptional season.
Same bet he won't in the top ten in terms of goals and assists given that he stops in the prem.

Totally disagree, apart from Kante going our window has been good. We have brought in a keeper, centre back, Kante replacement, and a forward. We kept hold of Vardy and despite the speculation which seems to have only cropped up thanks to one story in a paper after the Kante sale was confirmed, we still have Mahrez. Pretty pleased so far. Will be much less so if we lose the Algerian!
Also we were rumoured to be putting in a bid for William Carvalho for £20mill if we lost Kante, so we're still looking to buy.

Honestly No, he was all of the things you mentioned above but also our biggest liability. The rest of the team carried him and had to do his legwork, he was the only player last year that didn't run his socks off.
I can forgive players for not being skilful or good enough but lacking commitment is not acceptable to me.
I haven't seen any other prem teams being linked with him so far, it would not surprise me if he wanted a move abroad.
If he stays great but of our 3 stars he is the favourite to be a one season wonder. Imo.

The rest of the team carried him because they knew with a player like him they could accomplish something historical, and net large paydays in the process. I doubt any of his teammates were bitter.

Talks in Italy of Arsenal going for Higuain at £50m plus Giroud. Higuain would be an improvement, and I'd gladly welcome him at Arsenal, but that's a daft price (if true). We need competition at the striker position, not dependency on one person. Giroud's two main flaws: lack of pace and Arsenal's utter dependency on him for three years. I'd rather sign a lesser CF, keep Giroud, and sign a winger or CB.

Stockport County.
Mahrez was a game changer. Leicester will find it harder to replace him than Kante. Leicester have already tried to replace Kante hence why Renegade's post is strange. They've done good business, they've used their elevated status to sign Musa in particular who is a good player.

I had Leicester down for top 6 finish, top 4 push next year and that was presuming Kante was off. If Mahrez goes I think it'll be more top 10 unfortunatley.

Yeah i think Kante is easier to replace. Someone like Boufal or Perisic (which'd never happen) would he decent Mahrez replacements but players who can do what he does are few and far between. And cost a bomb. Which hopefully we'd get if we sold him.

From what I've read Mendy, is more of the Drinkwater type of player. Will be very hard to replace Kante obviously. At times next year though, you may have to go 4-3-3. The 4-4-2 was largely helped down to Kante's ability to play like 2 men at times.

Welcome to modern-day success Leicester! Doesn't matter if you finish above the big clubs/spenders players will still depart.

Although I'm more shocked with you guys as you can offer Champions League football while Chelsea can't even offer the Europa League.

It almost seems like this football lark is more and more pointless with each passing summer. You were meant to be the hope for us all!

One time Bournemouth target, winger Georges Kevin Nkoudou, looks to be off to Spurs with a bid accepted by Marseille.

I don't know how old you are I suspect fairly young. I've been a City supporter for well over 40 yrs (nearer 50), winning the League last year changes nothing, City aren't a big club and in my lifetime have always sold their best players.
We started the season as relegation favourites our target was to get 40 points, there was a reason for that we had a squad of very average players. The reasons we managed to have such a remarkable, wonderful season was a combination of very unlikely and possibly unrepeatable events.
I'm a realist nothing in football has changed to suddenly think that what happened last year suddenly changes us into title contenders or a big club is frankly bizarre. The manager has already said he will be paying more attention to the cups this year, which I hope is a reflection that he is a realist too.

I was being serious. Put yourself in Kante's shoes. He was playing at Caen not too long ago - a club historically more accustomed to Ligue 2 than Ligue 1 - signs for its basic Premiership equivalent who go on and win the league. Chelsea come knocking probably with a big fat pay rise and with the added glow of playing for a massive club (or at least this is how they are regarded in France even though they're filthy nouveau riche). Can Leicester compete? No, not really. CL means bugger all in those situations.

Nkoudou is joinins Spurs. Marseille's strategy seems to be to sell their best players (Mandanda, Michy, Nkoudou) and buy Villa rejects (Sanchez, Veretout).

I don't blame them for moving on, I would do the same in their situation most likely, it's still sad though. By "building on their success" I don't mean that they should keep all their talent, buy some more and then win the league again next season. I don't think they've taken advantage of their elevated position so far - they've signed Musa (who I don't rate that highly, makes me think shit Walcott) and Mendy, both of whom they probably could have signed last season as lower tier Premier League side. I don't think they've taken advantage of their increased bargaining power at all, they should be aiming higher and look to consolidate a position in the European places. That is building on success to me.

I wonder if Mahrez would suit a return to France with PSG?

Krychowiak - Matuidi

Mahrez - Di Maria - Ben Arfa

Cavani

I don't see him moving to another PL team.

You assume wrongly - I was responding (sorry should've quoted him) to the post by HarvSFC, about football being a pointless lark and his disappointment that our remarkable success last year had not altered reality.

As a footnote - everything has to do with age, I can't remember what my opinions and thoughts were aged 12. I would be very surprised if in 43 years time yours remained the same.

The "I'm 12" and "what does this have to do with what I said" were different points. When I said "what does this have to do with what I said" I was referring to your post, not the fact that I'm 12.

Doesn't mean it won't either.

I've just read your original post to help with my confusion (sign of age).
Sorry it was such a bland and obvisious statement I missed it.

Winning the lottery neither increases or decreases your chance of winning it again and your right it could happen but the odds are still the odds, its exceedingly unlikely.

You didn't fluke a lottery win though. You won a football division because you were far and away the best side in that division. There's no skill in picking the winning lottery numbers (despite what David Blaine may have you believe). The two aren't remotely comparable.

The comparison was in the likelyhood of it happening not the actual odds.
Leicester where the best TEAM in the league last year, a year in which both Manchester clubs had dead dog managers, Chelsea and Liverpool had both sacked theirs, Arsenal well, where just Arsenal.
Add to that the remarkable bond between the players in our team, which most ex players said they had never seen or experienced before,
the only similar example I can think of is probably the crazy gang.
By all means go out a place a bet that Hull, Boro, Stoke, Palace or any other similarly sized club to Leicester will we the league, but I think normal order will be restored and the biggest and richest clubs will be back battling for the title.

I think most people that know their way around the game are quite wary of signing for Leicester this summer. Last summer, players were moving knowing that they were going to earn a lot of money and most likely be fighting against the drop. If anything this season will bring pretty much the same as a lot of people want them to fail (if not everyone). The average jo's pressure of being watched by millions added to the CL has made Leicester an even less interesting proposition than last summer.
In my opinion.

This sure does look good on paper but what a team of bottlers! Wouldn't fancy this lot getting a past a full-strenght Bayern...
