I have heard both that inter City derbies are tinpot, and that cross city ones are. I guess the truth is that if you consider it to be a Derby, it truly is.

Though I still don't understand grown men invading the pitch and setting off flares when Crystal Palace take on Brighton.
I have to admit I don't overly get the Palace v Brighton one because they are about 50 miles apart, i know Ipswich and Norwich is similar but they have virtually no one else locally to each other whereas Palace do! M23 derby... i mean you could call Carlisle v Walsall the M6 derby going off that because they are off the same road!

I live right between them and the dislike is real but I have no idea why...and I dont care either.

Palace Vs Brighton isn't a derby, it's a rivalry. It's based on loads of years of history where a lot of shit happened between the clubs it's quite interesting really how it came about.

Cheers, will have a gander at that.

Don't Swindon and Gillingham have a weird one too?

Think that’s died off. It was intense for a while but now . . . meh!

There will be quite a contingent of City supporters coming in from the outlying towns. There has always been bad blood between Rovers and Cardiff but not as bad as the City and Cardiff one.

But you’re in that inevitable cycle of yours. Get s good crop, get promoted, sell them off, get relegated and hope a new crop comes along some time soon.
Remind me of the Swindon cycle again? You're even more yoyo than Vale are surely? Get promoted, get relegated, about to go under, get taken over, get promoted and repeat?

Tbf to City that was in the JPT and we all know how our emotions get ahead of us in that competition

How can Vale be classed as yo-yo? We’ve had one promotion in 28 years!

I wasn’t on about Vale I was on about Crewe. Getting taken over is hardly cyclical. We were unfortunate enough to have Power for far too long. The signs are very bright now, though. The off field stuff now is remarkable seeing the shit Power left us in. On the pitch isn’t my cup of tea but you can’t argue with league position.

Rochdale yesterday according to the xG guy should have won 1.6 vs 0.5. Tranmere can’t keep going all season conceding these chances and not creating much.
This just demonstrates that possession stats and XG (whatever that is) do not give a true impression of a match. Rochdale had lots of the ball in the middle third of the pitch, and played nice patterns, but never looked like getting back into the game. We only actually conceded two genuine chances in ninety four minutes of football. They did not force our keeper to make a save until the final ten minutes.

That is not a dig at Rochdale, it is just irritating that people are still saying 'your luck will run out soon', as if sound organisation and solid defending are not as valid a part of the game as being prolific in front of goal. And we have actually got three or four decent strikers now as well.

Kevin Keegan's Newcastle side must have had XG figures going through the roof. They won nowt. George Graham's Arsenal team probably had similar XG stats to our own, and won titles.

I've been a cross city derby "Potteries" and obviously the so called A500 derby with Crewe which is obviously different but local towns and its a completely different planet let alone level in terms of the passion and intensity.

We sing songs about Stoke and past meetings, you hear them on TV signing about us even now its just different.

Don't hear us sing about Crewe when we don't play them for instance and the trouble, intensity etc is fractional. As said a Papa Johns Match (or JPT i think then) match at Vale v Stoke U21 was far more intense in the stands than a league Crewe game.

I know Liverpool/Everton is often slightly different in that its seen as a friendly rivalry and you even get fans mix if families but most are not like that (probably down to different area's of the city).
The Scouse derby actually has not been remotely friendly for about thirty years now. There is a lot of animosity, particularly from the Everton side.

At least they can have red and blue within families there. In Bristol we would likely disown them completely for choosing the other side.

Exactly this... if someone walked into the home ends in a red and white striped top they'd not be very welcome! (or wise)

Ah apologies, thought that was about Vale. Still you’re about as yo-yo as they come tbf

How many different owners have you have in the last 15/20 years?

Maybe it’s different as an outsider but you lot always seem to be skint, then loaded then skint again.

Does any Northampton supporter know if there were any repercussions for the pitch invasion at match against FGR?
I hope not.
