Never a yellow!

Seriously though, I don't know if you've changed your mind but you lot are a very decent side and you'll be up there sooner rather than later. Don't forget you are missing some important players right now and we only had one player missing (O'neill, and tbh there's no way he would've started ahead of Boateng if we was fit). Best side we've faced this season and we've come up against Exeter, Newport and Tranmere already, 3 sides that will be there or thereabouts this year IMO.

Anyway, you'll beat Oldham on Saturday and then you'll beat us like you always do at Vale Park in the reverse fixture, so that's 6 points in the bag

If Tranmere will be thereabouts this year, Mansfield might be too :bl:

It was a good game overall I thought, two good sides trying to play the ball around which was refreshing, fair play to you it’s not easy to score 3 past us, reserves in the paint pot aside I think only Swindon and Manchester City have managed it since last August. Mullin accounts for 60% of our goals against this season in the league!

SVH is right re. Amoo. Sure, he can be a game changer when fit but just don't expect him to track back, and on those rare occasions he did it was only a half arsed attempt at that. I was not sad to see him go if only because he made our back line esp the full backs look very poor whenever he was on the pitch.

It's funny how people see things isn't it - our two commentators thought Whitehead was having a decent game when he was subbed off! Personally, I think they're wrong and the Vale fans on here are right in saying he had a poor game. As for Robinson, I thought he looked very dangerous every time he had the ball and I don't think Port Vale should be thinking about a new striker just yet. I reckon he'll get 12-15 goals this season if he starts most games.

Ive never noticed an issue with Amoo tracking back for us to be honest but maybe the system we play as it’s fairly tight so he’s more the outlet on the break.

Robinson hasn’t really been fully fit yet but think he’s top scorer. 3 goals but not played most games. Strikers probably are not the issue, Cullen scores goals, Robinson does and obviously Pope can it’s more been feeding them that’s been the problem so far.

I know it's not a good idea to rate or slate sides after only 90 mins of footy but they were very good in that goalless draw at the Abbey. Tbh I felt we were a tad lucky that night.

Also, aren't they missing some very important players at the moment?

Suppose anything is possible, they didn’t even try and score against Mansfield.

Both teams have decent squads, and you would like to think both will improve, although we never did last season!

We are struggling at the minute due to the amount of players we have missing. Every team in this division would struggle if they had the players missing we had. During this season we have had so far the following
Pope suspended
Gibbons injured
Mills injured
Smith self isolating
Amoo injured
Oyeleke injured
Mckirdy injured
Cullen injured
That is the equivalent of the man utd side from the 90s being unable to select from andy cole, Gary neville, west brown, jap stam, david beckham, paul scholes, ryan Giggs and dwight yorke. No team could cope with that.

Although it's obviously far from ideal, we can still put out an 11 that should be much better than 13th. We're just so toothless up front - Everywhere else on the pitch we're as good as anyone else in the league right now. The final ball just isn't there.

Worrall isn't a winger for me. He should be competing for a place in the middle of the park, with Amoo (once fit) and either McKirdy or Montano out wide.

Worrall was player of the year and one of the most accurate crossers last season in the top 4 leagues?!

I just like my wide players to have pace and a bit of skill to beat a full-back. He has neither. His crossing is also very hit and miss. Put enough balls in the box and you'll get a few right. I'm interested in this season and the present, not last season. I love his work-rate and haven't forgotten that he's a good player at this level, but with Oyeleke a crock I'd like to see him in the middle alongside Joyce and Conlon. Seeing as Conlon has a habit of playing deep for whatever reason (he's much better when further up the pitch) then you could even use Worrall as an attacking midfielder knowing Conlon and Joyce are behind.

At the moment out injured/suspended/isolating we have:

Scott Davies
Callum Macdonald
Paul Lewis
Manny Monthe
Corey Blackett Taylor
Morgan Ferrier
Stefan Payne
James Vaughan

4 of those probably starters but others are definitely players that can make an impact off the bench.

That all said, our eleven yesterday should have been more than enough to cause Orient problems and we never looked likely. We have a brilliant squad so there really isn’t anywhere for the manager to hide. The likes of Liam Feeney and Kayne Woolery havent had long since coming back in the side and will take time to get back sharp as will the lads that have been isolating through Covid.

I think the best we’ve played this season was away at Cambridge in that 0-0.

*Tom White - out until December then has to go back to Blackburn in January as you can only have a player on 6 months loan due to transfer embargo.... so basically all you'll be doing with White in December/January is getting him match fit for when Blackburn loan him out to us for the remainder of the season......

As this has turned into the injury thread... Here’s Carlisle United’s.

Brennan Dickenson - injured in preseason at Sunderland, out till January.
Jack Armer - injured first week of the season, just starting to return
Ethan Walker - injured in the trophy game at Sunderland, out till January.
Josh Dixon - Out injured for 2 and a half years, but now not far off a comeback.
Omari Patrick - out for a couple of months.
Dean Furman - picked up a series of knocks, missed about half the games so far.
Gime Toure - keeps picking up thigh injuries, missed the odd game.
Callum Guy - off injured the other night, unknown how long he’s out for.
Danny Devine - injured in training, currently out but hasn’t been confirmed how long.

I’ve probably forgot someone, or maybe someone’s wife is in labour. Bolton and Port Vale/Man United of the 90s aren’t the only ones with injuries. It’s probably going to happen more as well with Saturday Tuesday for the foreseeable future.

Yeah which proves my point that injuries to vale and bolton are making us struggle at the moment. It will effect every club throughout the season so even though cambridge are doing well at the minute they will get a injury crisis at some point which will see them have a drop in form.

Regarding us scoring goals Cullen pope and Robinson are capable of 15 if they play enough matches. Montano amoo and Mckirdy can score around 7 each its the middle of the park where I dont see us scoring. Joyce oyeleke conlon burgess Whitehead cant see them scoring many.

Crawley manager, JohnYems, has been nominated for numpty of the week on the Alan Brazil radio show for the interview after the Exeter game.

He has also put out another interview on the official website explaining why he said what he did...don't bother watching it. Its just him saying he really does care what the real fans in the stands think and he was trying to make a point there weren't any fans in the stands blah, blah, blah, blah.

When in a hole. Stop digging!

We were absolutely wank tonight, proper Sunday league stuff.
Bit late to reply to this thread, but the midfield selection was woeful. I knew as soon as I saw Morton and Spokes starting that we'd be in for a tough match. Morton again did not impress me and I barely noticed Spokes, which left Clifton with an inordinate amount of work to do, which he'll obviously get stuck into but Morton and Spokes offered nothing. Completely overran by them in midfield when the ball was in the middle third, but in the first 20-25 minutes before they scored their first the ball barely was in there. Harrogate were so aggressive in the final third that we were penned in for this whole period and Morton and Spokes couldn't deal with it, which meant Pollock and Waterfall had to deal with so much. I actually thought the defence did really well. Both goals were Macca's fault so they essentially did their job without nowhere near enough protection from their midfield. Lack of proetection means less chance for Preston and Hendrie to get up the pitch too. Losing Edwards was a blow but I thought Tilley had a good game. I wasn't bothered about Edwards going off at the time because I thought Kyle Bennett was supposed to be decent, but Jesus Christ he was flat and off the pace. He's got four strikers/attackers on the bench and no Windsor.

Frustrating night, hopefully Rose will be back in the middle of the park on Saturday. Taylor seems to be the better option out of him, Spokes and Morton quite comfortably so I'd want to see either him or Hewitt in the middle with Rose and Clifton. We've got options up top that aren't being used too, are we ever going to see Scannell or Wright this season for example?

For me our strongest XI right now is almost as clear as day so far, the only exceptions would maybe be Ohman for Waterfall and Hewitt for Taylor:

McKeown
Hendrie--Pollock--Waterfall--Preston
Rose
Clifton--Taylor
Tilley--Hanson--Edwards

I've been tuning in most weeks now to his interviews - I think they're great! That one is not the best one he's done, but its up there!

Yep, the one he did after the 2-0 loss at Cheltenham was better.

3.44 - ' and he laughs! the referee's laughing!' :ohm:

4.07 -'We're not a team that can carry 30 or 40 players like these have got'

Be fair. Most of us have lost their grasp on reality after watching a game reffed by Trevor Kettle. Yems was sent off after the game finished!

He has now been charged by the fa in regard to this interview. I quote..

"It is alleged that his comments in a post-match interview constitute improper conduct in that they question the integrity of the match official and/or were personally offensive and/or bring the game into disrepute"

Seriously, I like his bluntness but he does need some lessons on how to respond to interviewers questions or he is going to spend a lot of his cash on charges like this.

Casey

Ps

To be fair to Trevor Kettle there were no really contentious decisions in the match but he was hes usual odd self.

One of the points Yems makes is valid. If the ref knows one teams players and is laughing and joking with them, even if no bias is shown, it does make you question their impartiality
