After spending 200 million, the second most expensive summer spending spree in football history, his team are 3rd in the league with no trophies to show this season. His signings such as Falcao, Di Maria, Rojo have all failed. Blind has just been decent, but not shown enough for the price that was paid for him. You could say the best players under VG has been Herrera and Fellaini, two of the signings by Moyes. Is VG manager of the year when compared to the likes of Koeman? or even Pardew? Can United fans trust him with the money this summer considering the duds he bought?

Mourinho is the manager of the year. We've been top since August and he's yet to win the monthly prize. The FA though.

But that is/was expected of him before the start of the season with the players at his disposal. Had he been at least to the semifinal of CL, won at least one of FA cup or Capital one cup then sure he should be a contender. What Koeman did with Southampton is far superior and IF burnley stay up then Dyche would be a better contender too.

Don't think Rojo has been that bad and Blind has been a lot better than just 'decent' - at £14m he's a steal.

Falcao and Di Maria have been shite though.

If Crystal Palace finish the season in the top ten, then I'd give it to Alan Pardew.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Foreign managers have only been awarded this twice since it started in 1994. (Three if you count Ireland, which technically, I suppose you should... That was Joe Kinnear back in 1994)

It's relatively rare that the title winner is automatically the MOTY. The first title-winner to get it was Ferguson in 1999 for the treble and then next time it happened it was Wenger in 2002 (winning the double) and again in 2004 (the unbeatables). In the past it took more than just a League win to be the MOTY, it took something a bit more special.

Ferguson got it again in 2008, winning the CL again as well, and since then he has been the only person to have won the title and also the LMA award, in 2011 when they didn't win anything else and again in 2013 when their non PL season was actually pretty poor.

So assuming it doesn't go to Mourinho for winning the League, which would go against form (It didn't go to a foreign League and cup winner last season, so they do seem to prefer the British managers.) who has been the best performing Brit?

Rodgers is likely to be the highest finishing British manager but the drop from last season, plus the money he spent to achieve that will count against him.

I predict it will be Monk, Allardyce or Pardew and I'd put my money on Pardew, because the turnaround he's had at Palace has been phenomenal and having win it before quite recently (2012) he's popular enough among the other managers who vote, for him to be a contender.

Edit: If Dyche somehow manages to keep Burnley up, then he'd be a real contender, too.

Further Edit: We know that Pellegrini didn't get it despite also picking up the League Cup, but history suggests that the LC doesn't give much sway, so Chelsea getting it might not matter. David Moyes won the award in 2009, in the year United won the League and League Cup.

Wait Mourinho didn't get it when we accumulated the most points in a 38 game season? Mega lol.

My vote for Koeman if they manage to finish in Europa league spot. Dyche if he keeps Burnley up.

Manager of the year this season is simple really. It's Ronald Koeman's. Looking back to the summer when many were tipping Southampton for relegation and all were tipping us for a relegation battle after the losses in the summer. Burnley are 19th at the moment and if they stay up then they have overachieved. Southampton were given the same expectations in the summer, but have managed to stay 6th, 32 games into the season. One point away from the team that took 3/5 of the players we sold and two points above the team our manager left for.

Koeman was appointed Southampton boss in mid-June and made his first signing for the club almost a month later after the World Cup and players holidays. A week before the first game against Liverpool we had only signed 4 players with Long and Gardos coming in three days before the game.

That's a pretty decent job.

If Burnley stay up, it's Dyche no question.

If not, Koeman.

If Dyche keeps Burnley up I'd give it to him. Besides Ings, Trippier and possibly Boyd, I don't think any of their other players would start for any other PL side.

I'd still give it to van Gaal. I didn't expect United to be comfortably in the top 4 with games to spare. The only flop has been Falcao really. The rest have been alright.

Mourinho, Wenger, Koeman, Pardew, and maybe even Garry Monk are all more deserving than LVG. Dyche, too, if Burnley stays up.

Wenger shouldn't be anywhere near the award.

The other suggestions (Koeman, Mourinho, Dyche) are all good shouts.

IF we finish 2nd and win the FA Cup he's right up there to win the award, he wont though, it'll be Jose.

Alan Pardew should be a shoe in.

Absolutely, and look how badly the Toon have done since he left. I doubt if Van Gaal could have turned it around like that

Di Maria? He is far from alright, and even if he was i would expect more than alright for someone who was bought for 60 million.

No less so than LVG. Still in FA Cup, 2nd in league and didn't spend £200m in the summer. Neither should win it though, both should have built title challenging squads this year and fell short. Both failed to win this award the moment they fucked up signing defenders last summer.

Koeman should win this.

We are agreed, I don't think either manager should be in contention for the award. Wenger had the same season he always does (made to look slightly better thanks to the failings of City, United, Liverpool) with the added brainwave of playing a defensive midfielder halfway through the season and Van Gaal spent a big amount of money and took three quarters of the season to finally find a system and a side that works.

After spending 200 million, the second most expensive summer spending spree in football history, his team are 3rd in the league with no trophies to show this season. His signings such as Falcao, Di Maria, Rojo have all failed. Blind has just been decent, but not shown enough for the price that was paid for him. This post is filled with inaccuracies.

We spent around 160 million not 200 million, a fairly significant difference.

In what world was Herrera a Moyes signing?

Blind has been more than worth the price paid.

Rojo as not failed in any way. Was first choice until injury allowed Smalling/Jones to strike up a partnership and will continue to be an excellent squad player going forward.
£14m for Blind a steal? I think we need to reevaluate.

Judging your posts on us and any team except Arsenal I'd say you need to watch some games other than your beloved.

Blind has been excellent and given the prices in the current market, his versatility and his age we definitely got him for a good price.

No less so than LVG. Still in FA Cup, 2nd in league and didn't spend £200m in the summer. Neither should win it though, both should have built title challenging squads this year and fell short. Both failed to win this award the moment they fucked up signing defenders last summer.

Are we seriously comparing LVG and Wenger solely on money spent? Arsenal had perfect stability going into the season coming off an FA cup win, having the same manager they'd had since the dawn of time and added a few players to the squad one who is absolutely world class without losing much. Van Gaal on the other hand was inheriting a team at rock bottom, recovering from our greatest manager ever being replaced by a clown, had a huge turnover in personnel and was attempting to completely overhaul the system bringing about a complicated style of play that requires lots of time to get right.

I don't think Van Gaal is the manager of the year but if we finish only a point behind Arsenal it will be because either LVG over achieved or Wenger under achieved.

Euros.

Remember when fake man united representatives met with Herrera's agents? Herrera signing was already at advanced stage when Moyes got sacked.

Rojo hardly had a Ramsey injury, and Smalling/Jones aren't great either. I would be shocked if Van Gaal went with the same pairing next season. 16 million is a lot for just a squad player.

VG overachieved. If Arsenal finish second, it can't be considered underachieving since that Chelsea team is just too good.

Euros.

Why post in Euros on a English football forum , about a British team populated mainly by British posters. Anyway if Herrera was a Moyes signing it's still wrong

Remember when fake man united representatives met with Herrera's agents? Herrera signing was already at advanced stage when Moyes got sackede.

Ferguson confirmed he'd been scouted for a long time. Other journalists (Daniel Taylor of the Guardian was one) have since written he was offered to Moyes after his failed, futile, chase of Cesc but Moyes passed as he thought he was too expensive and wanted to scout Herrera himself. Regardless of this the deal was sanctioned on Vann Gaal's watch, he is his signing.

Because you are talking shit.

Rojo hardly had a Ramsey injury, and Smalling/Jones aren't great either. I would be shocked if Van Gaal went with the same pairing next season. 16 million is a lot for just a squad player.

No but the injury cost him his place. Smalling and Jones are both playing very well and both are far better than people are giving them credit for. We have one of the best defensive records in the league and apart from earlier in the season when we used very unfamiliar systems we don't give away many chances. We haven't lost by more than a goal since the Leicester debacle. our defenders are clearly a lot better than people are giving them credit for.

16 million since the new tv deal is just not that much. Southampton paid 1 3 million for Shane Long for God‘s sake. He's a young, versatile player with lots of good attributes. He;s played well for most of the season in a difficult league to adapt to. At the very least he gets marked in the don't know column but I''d say he is a mild success given the other defenders signed this summer. Vermaelen, Mangala and Lovren were all significantly more expensive and have flopped massively (one due to being a crock, but we knew that. He's rubbish anyway)

VG overachieved. If Arsenal finish second, it can't be considered underachieving since that Chelsea team is just too good.

It's a combination of both. Arsenals early season form was a definite failure on Wengers part and if we keep up with how we have been laying lately we will have slightly over achieved. Though City being shit has helped with that.
