Have you blatantly ignored my question because you don't understand the word 'conclusion'?

I was trying to find a way to word it with one syllable words only, to make sure my reply means something to the average Tranmere fan. Give me a minute, this is a challenge.

You've had more than a minute, Google conclusion, it may help as I haven't got all night.

We've never played you so how did you come to this conclusion?

They are a bigger club than you think. Fairly recent history, large stadium and big crowd when they were down there.

Just because you have a big stand doesn't make you a big team. I don't need to watch you play to know that.

Sorry, a few big words slipped in there. I hope the message still got across ok.

I don't get how Tranmere are bigger than either Luton or Bristol Rovers. They have averaged around 5-6k crowds in lge 1 recently, never played higher than the championship, and had crowds as low as 1-2k back in the 80's

Compare that to Luton who have played top flight football as recently as the 90's and regularly get 6-7k crowds even in this division obviously limited by their stadium. Bristol are similar to Tranmere but would still put them bigger based on crowd sizes, look at similar leagues and positions and Bristol have 1k more. (for example 2010 11th Lge 1 Bristol 7k crowds, 2013 11th Lge 1 Tranmere 6k crowds)

To be fair, I think he was asking a genuine question rather than giving it the biggun'.

I've had a fair bit of a look at the League 2 and the Tranmere fans seem a reasonable bunch to be honest

Bristol Rovers and Luton don't have two Premier League teams on their doorstep

maybe I'm just genuinely intrigued why people think Tranmere are a big club, they look a pretty average sized Lge 1-2 side at best to me, maybe am missing something, and certainly nothing special in this league based on some of the clubs that have dropped down here in the last 10 seasons or so.

Can I just say that not all Tranmere fans hold such an over-inflated sense of self importance. 10 years ago, we were averaging almost 10k in League 1 under Brian Little, but it has been declining steadily since about 2006ish. We have suffered from a total lack of interest from the boardroom up until the new owners came in this season and that has had a major impact on the crowds, as people just gave up hoping we would ever progress again.
We certainly are not the biggest club to drop out of the league and as has been said, Luton, Bristol Rovers, Oxford and to a certain extent Carlisle all have more trophies than we do. That being said, IF it clicks next season, don't be surprised if we are at Bristol Rovers type attendances. I would never be disrespectful to the former league clubs in this league and fully appreciate that there will be random sides being bankrolled.
Anyway, looking forward to all the Northern games, especially Chester, Wrexham, Southport and Macclesfield. You have no idea how Southern League 2 was this season!

Great opening post mate. Great attitude. Absolutely gutted that we wont have the privilege of welcoming Tramere to the Impact. Have everything crossed for a cup draw!:)

In response to the Tranmere lad's two prem teams on doorstep means low crowds, given we have Newcastle and Sunderland, (need to use quote buttons properly).

But you're minute for that reason, we get 5,000 crowds.

Believe me, back to back relegations will seriously knock any over-confidence out of you. Being up for sale on ebay, employing John Barnes, sacking a manager and players for betting offences and having 6 managers in 2 seasons is enough to embarrass the pride out of you. I'd love a title tilt next season, but we've no divine right to one. We have to accept where we are, recruit accordingly and work our backsides off if we want a top 5 spot. I can promise you one thing though - our owners are not Micky Mouse characters. A former FA Chief Executive and one of the best corporate turnaround specialist with his Co-Chairwoman wife being one of the top lawyers in the country.

We will be back one day and then you will see what this club can do. But can I just stress that there are a lot of good posters around who represent our club in a much less confrontational manner and who will absolutely treat your clubs with the respect they deserve. We're all here because we deserve to be based on our recent history as far as I'm concerned.

Wrexham are bigger than tranmere. Fact!
Next year is going to be fun. We've had no real rivals for about a decade and now we get 2 (Southport and Chester) :gr:
I'm joking, by the way. Looking forward to our matches.

Looking forward to it pal. Who needs the football league anyway with all us massive clubs down here. With teams like barnet and probably Eastleigh going up to join the likes of Crawley and fleetwood, we're probably better off down here

That's one thing going for us, Mark and Nicola, should put them in the back 4.

Back in the days when most games were played at 3pm on a Saturday didn't Tranmere play home games on a Friday evening, so that fans on the Wirrell could take in their game as well as one across the Mersey?

I don't think Gateshead will have to worry about having two Premiership sides on their doorstep for much longer, at least if the Leicester revival continues at its current pace.

Oxford Utd, Luton Town and Bristol Rovers are bigger clubs than Tranmere. Grimsby Town have had a much more illustrious history than them as well.

Would agree with all that except for Oxford.

Really? Oxford Utd have won a major, been in the top division and have spent more time in the 2nd division and their crowds are bigger too.
Also, their fans are prize bellends with much bigger delusions of grandeur than what I've seen from Tranmere fans.

I'd say we are similar sized to oxford. Luton and bristol are both bigger. Wrexham are minnows in comparison.

Oxford are like a Southern Wigan and I'm hoping Wigan can complete what Oxford achieved and return to their natural level (Northern Prem).
Oxford managed 44 years in the League, just because they managed a Milk Cup win and a few seasons in Division 1 doesn't really mean anything. Wigan have won the FA Cup yet only Crawley and Fleetwood are more tinpot in the entire professional game.
