Because it’s a (sort of) competitive game that their parent club doesn’t give a shit about (as in, there’s no real pressure or downside if they lose), other than the chance to see their youngsters in action v senior pros?

Otherwise EPL kids will rarely if ever get a shot at first team football unless they go on loan.

Most of the league clubs put out the stiffs too these days, now they’ve heavily relaxed the number of established first teamers that have to start the game.

Most Prem u21 are very weak at this time of year due to loaning several of their better players to league1/two teams
Every year i see fans moaning on here about boycotting this cup,yet it their only chance of winning a trophy.
If league one and two clubs want to hurt the premier league teams they should ALL agree to stop taking players on loan.

Quite right we have had some brilliant players in on loan and have one now in Duberry, but it is only helps Premier Teams long term
Look at James Trafford would he have played in the premier league without first team experience with us..........Been sold twice since leaving us for nearly 40m
How much of that did we get......yep a big fat zero.
Chelsea have 8 keepers including one with us.
It is pure greed

I dont buy the chance of Wembley thing anyway. We have been 5 times. Meh.
And it would be 7 games before we got there, 7 chances of players getting injured. At least with the carabao there's the possibility of higher league opposition.
Its only good for giving fringe or returning players a run out, in my opinion.

Your club is over 100 years old and your role of honour is one Div 4 championship
You set the bar very, very low.
Caraboa cup say you get Arsenal like we did last season........Stadium is half full say 40k and you get hammered by the reserves what is the point

Luton told Barnet to calm it by winning 4-1. It was men against boys in the first half and Luton could’ve been 5 or 6-0 up if it wasn’t for the Barnet GK.

Luton took their foot off the pedal substantially in the second half. Shayden Morris coming on and winning and scoring a penalty within minutes.

Leeds U21’s looked like a typical academy team. Very nice patterns in possession at times but for the periods we did raise the tempo a bit they looked like conceding every time we came forward. Not reading much if anything into the game beyond it was nice to get minutes for some players on the fringes of selection.

Imagine a lot of the U21 teams had their better players away on International duty also? But yeah Newcastle gave us a good game once as did Wolves, but we've generally hammered the rest in the decade or so they've been in it.

I see 37 year old Jay Spearing played for Liverpool u21s. This is really helping the youth out..

Why on earth is he still at Liverpool? He must be nowhere near the first team, so why would a 37 year old be playing in the youth team? Why haven't they released him many years ago? Is he a mate of the owner?

It's some weird fad at Prem clubs to have an ex-academy, senior player involved with the U21 setup, helping to develop the kids from a leadership point of view, I guess. Utd have Tommy Rowe playing for them. Both listed as player coaches I think.

Or just to get around home grown player rules.

There is that, but doubt these chumps are being registered in the Premier League squad. Not even sure what the rules are these days tbf.

None of the u21 will be registered with the premier league
Teams get around the rules by playing returning players as part of their Re-ab
Spearing as a coach will be registered to play but again will not be part of the first team squad.
