Got to be honest, I don't know much about Sutton apart from I go to a client on an industrial estate about 5 minutes away from their ground. I bloody love London but it's a shame it's not a bit more central as it's a good old trip on the underground into central London from somewhere like morden, right at the bottom of the northern line. In fairness, Sutton makes Burslem look like St Tropez. If you can grab a taxi, then Earlsfield is a nicer area not too far away (near to AFC Wimbledon's new ground) . There's a few decent boozers there but I'd say it's a 25 minute car journey.

I was going to go to this but was in London last weekend to run the marathon and I ain't going 2 weeks on the bounce.

On to the game, Sutton have had a great start. I imagine they are bang up for every game and it will be difficult at their place. Bennett never quite looked good enough for league football when he was at vale but was probably unfairly treated by some fans and he did score a couple of important goals for us. Similarly, Wilson never looked quite good enough but he seems to have forged a reasonable career.

From the quest highlights, Sutton looked to have a couple of big lads and some pace. If we can withstand the pressure first half and keep it tight, our fitness levels will shine through and I believe we have a bit more quality...doesn't always translate into results though.

I think when you played vale it was just one of those days. Nothing you did quite worked out and in the end we saw the game out quite comfortably.

Always see Forest Green as one of the better footballing sides in the division but as you said, in previous years it was death by passing around the back.

I've always liked Matt, I think he's a real presence and he's obviously helping you by acting as a focal point rather than attacks drifting. Fair play for your start to the season, I honestly didn't see it after you'd played us.
That's how I see that game too, you played your part by being on it and not letting us get going but it was also down to us having an off day, maybe hangover from the Brentford game, maybe just L2 players obviously not being the most consistent.
Not that we've been super dominant in the rest, been slices of luck aplenty, but Rob Edwards clearly has the ability to motivate them and that's half the battle at this level, coupled with two or three players with that bit of quality.

Heads up to any Vale fans travelling by public transport tomorrow, West Sutton is the closest station to the Football ground, with services from King’s Cross St Pancras passing through regularly.

Trains running from Victoria still to Sutton?

Away to Newport. Must be 40 years or more since we won there

Must be 40 years or more since we beat Newport away, not that we've played them much.

I remember their old ground, Somerton Park, being the worst Ive ever visited in the Football League, disused speedway track around it, was a right old dump.
You obviously never went to The Shay before the re-development. That place was truly awful. Quite easily the worst League ground I have ever been to. It made Rochdale before it was done, and that was pretty bad, look at the San Siro. I went there for the first time in about 20 years during our last season in the VNL and was amazed with the difference.

Looking forward to getting hammered by Bristol Rovers tomorrow
Carlisle played well in last game against FGR despite loss.
I suspect that you are being overly pessimistic.
Carlisle may not win at Brizzle but no way will they get 'hammered'

Orient are the second "on form" team we've played this season - it didn't end well at Harrogate, so I'd probably say a draw would be an okay result tomorrow.

We're missing Ollie Banks, who has been our best player this season, and we'll either have Jason Taylor ambling around in midfield or a midfield three of youngsters - either way it feels like that might be the problem area.

I really like the bloke but it has got to the point where we should be in dire need before he starts.

Taylor? Yeah, he was fully deserving of player of the season in his first campaign, and even did an effective job battling away last year - but it really doesn't work in this team and seems to cost us goals/points.

Oh no... that's the biggest sign you're in a relagation battle... when people start saying 'you looked alright when we beat you'.

Likewise if you beat teams and their fans say you're something like 'bang average' or 'cloggers' you're probably going up.

Confirmed that our two Cyprus U21 players turned down the chance to go and play for them, if they did then this game would've been off with Paul Smyth already joining up with Northern Ireland. It isn't, which means we get to get our long trip to the Barrowers out of the way.

Tom James 100% banned this week, he'll be missed as he plays that RWB position so well for us. I'm expecting Craig Clay to fill in there. I'd also expect Ruel Sotiriou to start ahead of Aaron Drinan who's form has dipped a bit in recent weeks. Hopefully Alex Mitchell can start at CB to give us better balance in the defence.

With England playing and the game being legally streamed, I can't see us taking more than 250.

First time we've played against Mark Cooper since the incident with Ross Embleton back in November 2019, so I'd imagine he'll get a bit of stick thrown at him.

Tbf, I reckon Rodney Parade is one of the worst in the EFL. Or it was when I last went in 2014. As well as a few blocks of a modern-ish pitch side stand they gave us a seemingly bodge away end of what looked like 2 temporary seated stands behind the goal. Felt like the floor was going to collapse and aggressive stewards cramming people in where there were no seats or obvious space to stand. Felt like a disaster waiting to happen.

Is England v Andorra really that much of a pull? Especially as its on at 7:45, you could watch it in a pub on the way back if you're that fussed

Pessimism once again.
Carlisle lost to the top of table team, no disgrace in that.
And yes Carlisle had opportunities in game, which will occur in upcoming games but with the ball going into back of the opposition's net.
No way will Carlisle be in fear of relegation in May. They are too good for that.

We didn’t quite get that last season, in the week or 2 before playing at Scunny and Port Vale we had their fans saying they were the worst team in the league, before then changing it after playing us and both beating us 3-0 to ‘ok we’re the second worst team in the league.’

Our away record is absolutely abysmal and we never win at Newport FFS!

It is if England are playing away! There is a group of our fans who regularly prioritise England away games and I am sure they'd have travelled to Andorra. I nearly did too as I've never been there, but couldn't be arsed with the hassle of getting there and back right now, so it will knock a few off our away crowd, not that its going to be anything special.

The stadium was on fire earlier, so might be a wasted trip.

You must be right piss poor if you think that. They were beyond dreadful last Saturday.
True, although it only took a dodgy ref to decide the game, as happens a lot in the bottom 2 divisions.
Im a ST holder, live 3 miles from the ground, but still might just watch on ifollow. That's how bad it is

The report I heard suggested that the ground staff fought the flames until the fire brigade arrived, but it appears that the tv gantry has been destroyed...and possibly one of the dugouts has melted.

Think it’s the VAR area or something.
