I suppose all teams have games like this even the best ones. Seems they’ve just not been able to do anything right tonight. It happens, just got to get out of there without any further damage to the GD and put it right next time.
Yeah 100%.

A good run might get the crowds back at Charlton .

Sad to see one stand particularly looking so empty.

Yes, we were very poor last night. Couldn't handle set pieces (which is usually a strong point for us) or players running at us at pace.

Morrison had a nightmare before getting hauled off at half time. He's been good for us this season but got bullied for the first goal and looked generally shaky. We were wide open for the second goal.

Cowley made the right adjustments at half time to try to salvage something. Jacobs came on to bring some much needed creativity and we finally used young right back Swanson to balance the defence. It was looking like we might get one back, and then Jacobs's hammy went closely followed by Pack's sending off and the unmarked third goal going in from the resulting free kick.

Fully deserved win for Charlton. They out-muscled us in the key areas, where we're usually strong, and we struggled to cope when they ran at us from deep.

Four league games without a win now. We badly need a result at Forest Green on Saturday to stop the rot.

Although they lost match on Monday against Charlton, Portsmouth fans must be confident of a good result against visitors FGR to Fratton Park on Saturday.
Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley has an exceptionally good record v FGR: – when manager of Lincoln City he won every match against the Gloucestershire team.
He used to drive Mark Cooper loopy with his touch-line antics. But watching the game last night it seems both Cowley brothers have matured.
Once Cowley attended a match at TNL on a spying mission and sat directly behind me. I asked him if he had ever lost a match against FGR and he had to think hard before eventually admitting he did once while managing ‘Essex Pub Team’ Braintree Town.
Yep Cowley has certainly got a winning mentality against his former regular opponents and looking at both teams (Portsmouth & FGR) relevant position in table, I suspect it will continue.

Looks like a sold out Memorial Ground for our South West clash against Rovers. It's got a bit tasty a few times over the last decade or so - I'm sure they'll be up for it.

Seems to have a lot more edge than the Exeter games, even though they are nearer. Looking forward to it!

Oh they've still got antics in them, don't worry about that :bg:

It does when you constantly post inane incorrect drivel.
I politely and respectfully refer you to your own post #15,152 of 25 September on page 506 of the ‘League One Away Support Thread’.

If you need any advice on where to drink/trains/parking etc, just shout.

We’ve been on a poor run against mostly top 8 teams and really need a win to just snap out of it. Confidence is really shot and I’ll take a win however it comes at the moment.

It sounds like Mitov might be injured and our second choice keeper is also out which should be fun for us to try to cover. Also possibly Jones out at centre back, he’s been our best defender this season. We also have both our left backs out at the moment which means Brophy has been playing there and I prefer him much further forward.

As I said, we really need a win. A draw wouldn’t be welcomed by the home fans tbh.

Is the ground within reasonable walking distance from the train station?

Just looking at your recent run it does seem a little misleading as you’ve had a horrible fixture list of late. Think it’ll be an interesting game to watch as so far we are mainly competitive in games but with inconsistent results. Cambridge at home as you say it’s a game you should be aiming for if not expecting three points from, I’d say the same the other way if it was at VP. Not sure anyone from last night forced their way into the starting XI, maybe Worrall and Benning at wingback.

We're frustratingly inconsistent at the moment. Forest Green was a chance to get a little winning run going but you can't give a team a 2 goal lead. There's only really been 2 games that we haven't been in this season. We've been pretty competitive otherwise but we seem to have a nasty habit of conceding first and they're usually soft goals.

As others have said, Cambridge have had a tough run, so their form is a little misleading. It seems like we gave Sheffield Wednesday a bit more of a game than them but it's a tough place to go and is a tight pitch which we historically struggle on.

We're brilliant at giving teams a helping hand out of a shit run and Cambridge will be eyeing this one up as a real chance to get back on the horse.

Be amazed if we got anything out of the next 2 but you never know.

It’s a couple of miles but you do go past plenty of good pubs on the way - there’s barely any pubs by the ground but the Mill Road area of Cambridge is most away fans’ favourite area for drinking. Without stopping, it’ll take you about 35-40 mins to walk it.

That’s perfect, sounds an ideal away trip this. At least until we start the game anyway :)

To be fair we’ve had a similar rough run of games with Barnsley, Shrews, Posh, Wednesday and Derby. We’ve seemed to be growing but in typical Vale fashion we play superb to get a win at Derby, especially defensively then gift FGR a 2-0 lead from identical balls in from free kicks!

We do seem more of an away side in terms of fluency, possibly the pitch at VP being an issue? But over DC reign it’s been the case as a rule.

We just need to settle on finding our best XI notably the midfield three as Conlon hasn’t found form yet and Garrity after being outstanding last season (unexpectedly) hasn’t really made the step up how we’d have liked.

Assuming Hall (easy drive for him this one!) comes in for DJ (who appears to have a hammy issue), possibly Woz for Massey after his impact midweek and Pett for Politic being away from home? Benning being fit surely comes in for McCarron who had a bit of a mare last weekend? Would be my choice but think Massey and McCarron will start to avoid changing the back line too much with the enforced change with Hall.

Should be a decent tie which both will fancy three points from. Hopefully from our POV Ellis can keep up his scoring form.

Looking forward to Plymouth, think it’s going to be a really tough test with a fantastic atmosphere.

Can see a 2-2 draw with us going ahead building excitement around our form. Only for Plymouth to outclass us and be leading 2-1 before a 80th minute equaliser and then end to end football.

Get your bets on now!

3/1 is good odds for Fleetwood.
Doesn't look like we'll have a permanent manager by then, currently leaking four goals a game and now Sweeney is banned after a dubious yellow card against Oxford, so we'll be playing more kids at the back. Happy days!

It's a strange one for us at Burton this week. Win and everything will seem honky-dory, draw and it's all a bit meh, lose and it could be the death knell for Wade Elliott's time in charge.

In fairness to him, he's not had much to work with in terms of quality of player, and with shit loads of backroom changes, however, his persona doesn't inspire confidence, especially in the fanbase. When we've won well (Shrewsbury and Bolton for example) he's made changes for the sake of it and then wondered why the players haven't performed as well. The 4-1 battering by Bristol Rovers last week was the final straw for some fans, more for what he said afterwards than anything on the pitch.

I'm recording a podcast later where one guy wants to lay the blame firmly at his door, but another completely blames Mickey Moore - I suspect I'm going to have to be the ref.

I take it this is The Robins Report? Might listen later as I like a good argument. Obviously I have no dog in this fight but still.

Talking of dogs, you still got the dog track in Pompey? I went there about 20 years ago and a jolly time was had by all.

Exeter away and we have more chance of a result than our poor home form. Struggling up front with injuries but our strength so far has been defense with some really solid performances . Exeter have acquitted themselves well following promotion so it wlll be a hard game. I will be disappointed if we don't get something from this going for a draw 2-2

Port vale at home, we’re on a poor run of form, low on confidence and are desperate need for a win, we’ve created very little recently and I can’t see that changing this wk end with the news that Adam may has done his acl and mitov is in a foot brace after a wankers challenge from a Wednesday player last wk.

We also have both left backs out.

Lost count on how many times bonner has changed our cb’s this season, feel he needs to pick 2 and stick with them, Jones and one other for me.

13/8 for vale lump on!
