Couldn't be happier with Barnsley getting promoted it's a easy 6 pts for most

Underestimate them at your peril. They have some very good youngsters, and if Sam Winnall can cope with the step up they should be alright.

Remember people underestimated Preston last season, and Rotherham before that, and they are both still here.

Yeah, daft thing to say - we're trying to nab some of their players, their squad clearly has some talent in it. Wouldn't be surprised if they finished above us.

I'd be surprised, and indeed disappointed, if we don't.

You left out on the cheap or free.

Barnsley aren't a team that really get results against City much like Middlesbrough so I am correct in saying easy 6 points

They got two points off us in our title winning season.... I'm not sure our record is that good against them.

Neither me, we've got a lot of money but no idea how to spend it seemingly.

Barnsley fans are proper hateful counts on Twitter. I mean, I can understand their frustrations - Hammill and Brownhill should sign, Mawson's being linked, and we've already taken their manager and are trying to nab their assistant and all. But still, I'm not sure why they're being hateful towards us fans though... it's not our fault that Johnson's luring their squad members with cash.

Bristol's push for the play offs... Hammill and Brownhill. Fuck me another season of struggle for the yokels.

Brownhill isn't our player, Mawson will cost and whatever Hammill chooses to do he will go with the best wishes of pretty much all our fans, well the level headed ones anyway.

Some folk may be just getting irate that it's a jumped up tinpot outfit like Bristol City they might end up at is my guess.

A E4M bid has also gone in for Kodjia Mk2 so we are actually looking at players from outside Barnsley as well.
There has been an update on Tomlin as well, 'keen but expensive' was the quote. Adam Matthews expected to sign within the next 10 days.
Got a Manager yet? :hypo:

Obviously, the players don't see us as 'a jumped up tinpot outfit'? 16,800 season tickets sold isn't really 'tinpot' after all. Apologies IF we do take players away from you, good side you've got.
Congratulations BTW, well played.

Who claimed that? I said I wouldn't be surprised if Barnsley finished above us. Like CU said, we've bid €4m for some chap today according to the French press.

Money is the only reason a Barnsley player would sign for Bristol City, just as money is the only reason a Wycombe or Barnet player would sign for Barnsley.

Money and ambition, the fact we have the money enables us to eventually compete at the top end of this division. Not that I think it'll be next season, but then I don't think Barnsley or any of the promoted teams will trouble the top six, much like none of the last three who came up didn't.

Alan Nixon Charlie... (from OTIB)
Re: Nixon being in the know, just started following him on Twitter and asked him:

“What are the odds on Lee Tomlin joining Bristol City?”

His response: “Difficult. Keen, but costly.”

Isn't that a sad indicator for the modern game? Money, money, money!
If Barnsley can repel any bids then fair play but we are a relatively well off club with new infrastructure meaning higher income. I'm not saying it's right but it does seem to be the rule rather than the exception that money talks nowadays.

2005 last time we were same league, the season where a certain Trevor Kettle made his name and became the worst referee ever to step out on a football pitch.
You're about the 4,254th person who's said that!

Agreed. I don't lose sleep over it. We poach players from smaller/less wealthy clubs too.

Plenty of you last season claiming you'd push for the play offs this year, probably Gerry Gow and all them downers.

Not quite sure if that's a good appointment or not in all honesty. Yes, he had Hearts and then Rangers to compete with but missed out in the play offs, then again he did win the Scottish cup.
I think it would have been nice if he had stayed at Easter Rd to get them up next year and I would guess the step up from being a big fish in the Scottish 2nd tier to being one of the smaller fish (with all respect) in the English 2nd tier, is a big one.
It could be a genius appointment, time will tell I guess.

They've spent quite a bit in the last couple of years to try and get back up, at least by their standards, now Rangers aren't in that league the money will probably dry up a bit. Not too surprised he's looked to move on.
