Good old Dopey Darrell, got his work cut out next season IMO. Personally for me my dislike for Swindon is far greater than Rovers.
I never really disliked Swindon until November's antics, so it's hard for me to say that - considering I've hated Rovers all my life.

Rovers don't really concern me anymore, the rivalry is dead and will continue to be for a few years, but the JPT game last year proved our hate for each other, and when the opportunity comes around again - I'm sure the hatred will be the same.

Since I have actively supported City - 2000/2001 they have never ever been above us and have played us what about 6 times I also dont know many of their fans whereas with Swindon I know too many and they arent the gracious bunch.

Each to their own I guess.

Personally, I live in the same City with Gasheads, I know many - and will continue to hate them until the day I die. Call me bitter? It's a rivalry - but I'll share a congratulations when deserved, and acknowledge good work when it's carried out, and this season Rovers have been very successful, hence why I offered my congratulations on here.

But - if they beat us in a head to head game, there would be a sweet lot of fuckall congratulations handed out ;)

Oh dont get me wrong I see the rivalry but cant bring myself to 'hate' them, for the past 15 Years they havent provided a threat to us.
I know they hate us with a passion and i just laugh at it.

You should have been around in the early 70's -- You'd know all about City / Rovers rivalry.

I know a lot about the rivalry and when we have played you before I dreaded losing I get that but Rovers arent relevant anymore really.

I love how much City fans dislike DC. They loved Ward, McGhee and Buckle. Must be doing a good job.

As for the rivalry, just take a look at the City fans posting here, just look at their forum dominated with Rovers threads/posts, just look at the Vicky Pollard-esque City girl creating a video commenting on our game, they love saying they don't care about us any more but despite being miles above us they just can't let us go.

I don't moan about City fans being here, they can say what they want, because it just makes a mockery of their widespread claims of Cardiff / Swindon being their real rivals. Bless 'em.

Miagsy, for one our season is long over so we have taken an interest in our nearest and, ahem, 'dearest' as we have naff all else to do football wise. All our players are on the lash in Vegas. Secondly, I will agree with George, when I first started attending games in the mid 70's (yes, I really am THAT old) the City / Rovers rivalry was mental and hasn't got close to it since. Even the 1990 season wasn't a patch on it to be fair.
As for Cardiff and the cheats, I may be a traditionalist but you lot are always top of my 'rivals' list, regardless of where you are. Yes. we do have a long standing rivalry with the Malaysians but the cheats are only on our radar because we didn't have you or the rent boys to play this season. They have certainly wound us up but it's nowhere near the intensity for your lot.
As for DC, I think you will find that I said some nice things about him.
Have no fear, the rivalry is still strong on the red side, it's just that we don't play much anymore.
As I said before, well done, you were far too big to be down there anyway but it was fun for us, while it lasted. ;)

Blimey, this thread topic changed. Can we please change it to "City fan's discuss whether Rovers are their rivals or not"?

I dont think the dust has settled yet, I woke up this morning buzzing still. I'm a bit calmer now, but I think I need to spend about an hour going through youtube, seeing other perspectives. What a day.

WE ARE BACK ON FIFA!!!!

True words mate. Glad the Rovers are back in the FL and of course in FIFA ;)

Edit: so I have to buy Fifa 16 although I don't want to if the carreer mode won't dramatically change. :(

Seriously? Dropping out of the league means clubs are removed from FIFA games?

Sadly, yes. For English football, its only the Prem and the FL. It's been horrible. I had to play with Southampton, who the f*** are Southampton? :hypo:

Apparently there are mods etc, and I could have gone and created them on there, but quite frankly, us not being on Fifa felt like the punishment we deserved for being relegated.

Yes, we know all about his record for league clubs before he joined us (although he had a good loan spell at Wycombe). He played in your League 2 promotion season didn't he? He wouldn't have been the main man for you then and it seems like it's taken a few years for him to reach his peak.

I would be quite happy for him to be back at Crawley - especially now we have dropped a division. Not as a lead striker though. He would only be a lead striker at league 2 level if you have plenty of goal power from midfield - otherwise I think he would be better playing behind the main striker(s) in a free role.

The mistake people made/make with Akinde is that they see him and think he must be a target man, and a lumbering one at that. Plenty of opposing managers, defenders and goalkeepers thought that and paid a heavy price. Give him space to run on into and you've got no chance of legally stopping him from behind.

From an outside view, any claim of Bristol City fans that their real rivalries are now with Cardiff City and Swindon Town are ridiculous.
Those two clubs have very real rivalries of their own to conduct with Swansea City and Oxford Utd respectively.

Even though we haven't played Enfield in a competitive match for 23 years and are very unlikely to do so in the near future, it will always be our true rivalry. The only club that can compete with them for rivalry with us is Stevenage but I'm not sure what they're feeling. They probably feel they're developing a rivalry with Luton Town but again Luton Town will always be more concerned with Watford.

Rovers are and always will be the main rivals to the vast majority of us, including myself but when you consider how absolutely one sided the last 15 years have been its hardly surprising that some of our younger fans are indifferent towards them and are turning to Swindon or Cardiff for rivalry. Nobody under the age of about 20 will even remember the last time they were in the same league as us and thats a fair percentage of our fanbase! I cant see any way they will be level with us again unless a. They get a big injection of cash from somewhere or b. we fuck things up massively but they are still number 1 hates to me. Cardiff are nothing anymore since they moved to Ninian Park and Swindon are just meh and more concerned with Oxford.

I wouldn't mind it if us and Rovers started a proper rivalry, we haven't had one in years as we've left all our historical rivals behind. I kinda miss it.

You can't really 'start' a rivalry MrGL, it's inbuilt. While I have no doubt you and the gas will have a bit of needle next season, as we did with Swindon this season, it won't ever be the same as the City / Gas one WTGR. It's 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year!
I dislike Cardiff rent boys and have nothing but disdain for the 6 fingered cheats down the M4 but it's always the bloody gas for me. I don't mind admitting to jumping around the room when Grimsby scored on Sunday, just how it should be. I don't dislike any particular gashead, I quite like many of them, but really do wish nothing but bad fortune on their club as I'm sure they wish the same for mine!

You're right that rivalries aren't manufactured, I just miss having any - one would do! Weymouth have been crap for years and Hereford were crap until they went bust.

That's bollocks. We started a bitter rivalry with Brechin City, the fat-fingered feckin whisky-drinking dingles from Angus. Games between Wolves and Brechin are always, always fairly vicious affairs, and it's considered an A-category game by both sides. Bad blood has only existed between the two clubs since 2011. But we hate them. You know, really hate them. Like you hate broccoli (or calabrese as we call it in the Midlands). Tossers.

Hardly the Baggies though Wolfie? Then again, you don't play them very often either! ;)

Sounds a bit like us and Buckie Thistle from the highland league. I hate the black pudding munching highland freaks. Fuckie Thistle.

Next they'll all be wanting independence. Bastards. The oil isn't even finished yet.
They can have independence, bloody Sweaties as long as they leave the oil under British sovereign waters alone and promise that Nicola Sturgeon never appears on my tele ever again. Oh yeah, they have to repatriate Lorraine Kelly as well!
