What? Sat in our Ivory tower Aber? Hope you're well mate?
Well done fella.
I'm alright now mate, just about recovered. I can't cope with the hangovers anymore but Saturday had to be done. My wife is apparently "never drinking again " but we'll see. Anyway hopefully see you lot next year one way or another

You'll get lots of unrequited man love from Bobbin (Charlton fan) as he has a 'soft spot' for you (daft prick!) and a few posters have said how they prefer you lot to us so enjoy the love!
it's decent to be fair, one of the better forums.
Watch out for the Mk mob though, they are just plain strange, especially Never call Saul, very worrying attitude. You'll enjoy the L1 forum and you've always got us upstairs to annoy now you are such a massive club! ;)

Bobbin is a good bloke, better than that other Charlton " fan" anyway! I've had a quick scout and it seems lively at least and I'd forgotten Coventry are still down here so there is joe too. I'm sure I'll still pop up to championship bit ( only if you are still shite mind)

There's 'shite' at this level and then there's 'shite' at Championship level. It's proper tough upstairs, really difficult. I can live with it though.
As for Bobbin, watch your 'virtual' arse as he really like you lot! ;) Joe's a good poster and they've had a tough time, respect!
It's awkward to keep coming back to this forum as we don't want to be perceived as 'Billy big bollocks' after getting promoted, something we're certainly not but now you're here, our unadulterated love for whoever you play, on a weekly basis, is assured!
Life without Taylor up front is gonna be hard isn't it and surely your squad, which is pretty much the Conference squad need some additions to survive? The dog pleasurer must be sought after as well? ;)

A few Gasheads on Twitter are under the impression they'll be bringing in Lambert as a replacement for Taylor when he inevitably goes.

Can someone explain the Swindle / Gills thing please? I know Swindown (whoops ;)) despise Gillingham but I have no idea why! A 1 way thing?
It's one way alright and it aint us. This explains the origins, then add on the 86/87 playoffs when we dumped them out when they were within a whisker of going through and all the pegs and pretty beads in the world wouldn't stop yhem bellyaching.

'The rivalry between Gillingham and Swindon is one of the most unlikely in League football - but since the teams renewed acquaintance in 2006 after nearly nineteen years absence, it soon became apparent that the rivalry was just as intense, perhaps more so, than with some of the Town's local derbies - a fact surprising for any Town fan under forty years of age!.

The rivalry started in March 1979, when, with both teams in the running for promotion, Swindon visited Priestfield one position and three points behind the Gills, but with two games in hand. Gillingham themselves were equal on points with third-placed Swansea, and just three points behind leaders Watford. In a fiery match, the Gills went 2-0 ahead in the first 25 minutes, but ten minutes later the Town had pulled it back to 2-2. That was how the scoring stayed, but other events were to make the game far more memorable. After Gillingham had goalscorer Westwood sent off for foul and abusive language, Priestfield went into uproar, incensed by what they considered to be poor refereeing and gamesmanship by Town player Ray McHale - and in the second half, a Gills fan got onto the pitch and punched the referee - knocking him out.

It got worse for Gillingham when they visited Swindon for the return leg in May. Now a point ahead of the Town and in a promotion spot, Gillingham had another player sent off for a tackle on McHale, and after the Town went 3-0 up, their players began to single out McHale for some retribution, the game turning nasty again. The game eventually finished 3-1, and as the players returned to the dressing room, there was a fracas in the tunnel - Swindon coach Wilf Tranter having to go to hospital with facial injuries after being punched. Two Gills players ended up in court over the incident, both were acquitted - and the season ended with both teams missing out on promotion - the Gills by a single point, which they considered to be stolen from them during the two games with Swindon, and a rivalry was born.'

I consoled myself with the fact that with Oxford & Rovers coming up it's two local games next season, however from over here Rovers is my second longest away trip of the season (assuming Plymouth don't get promoted) and Oxford is farther than Chesterfield (just).

Sometimes it's a bit shit being an exile :(

Still better than living in Swineland isn't it?

This is why I'm moving to Gillingham, just stuck my deposit down on a 2 berth.

(Was going to say 6 berth but would have left myself wide open for family member related jibes)

People outside of BRFC have the impression that Matty Taylor is the sole reason for us doing well, and that without him we'd be fecked. The 'Conference squad' got the 7th highest L2 points total over the last five seasons.

Taylor is an excellent striker, and I'd rather he stayed, but he isn't a one-man side in the sense that Lambert was for us, for example. Lambert could create something out of nothing, score from 30 yards etc. and when he went we struggled a bit due to not replacing him. Taylor's positioning is good, but he also misses a lot of clear cut chances created for him. Essentially, I still think we'll be fine if we replace him.

As for DC, I think he'd be mad to go elsewhere over the next two years or so. Stay at a place where you're loved, with a big infrastructure building process (hopefully) about to get underway, decent budget etc. Or go to somewhere like Forest, under pressure as a 'rookie', not as much time given to him as he was given here etc. I wouldn't begrudge him a move, but I think we're matching his ambition currently.

Crikey, I can't remember that!
With Oxford, the gas and the Gills in your division, you're going to be busy this season. I guess the gas come 3rd in that list as would we if we were down here.
I always thought your rivalry with our 'nearest and dearest' was more intense than your rivalry with us but it was good fun a couple of years ago.

Bit of a contradiction there mate!

It was the Swindon fans who tried to storm the family section in our first meeting in 20 years that really set it off again. But they don't care about us.

Not at all.

As it happens I've never lived in Swindon, but was born & bred in Wiltshire so Swindon was my local team growing up. But to answer your question no, I would rather live anywhere in Wiltshire than up here

I'd say for the vast majority of Swindon fans it's Oxford > City/Reading/Rovers depending on generation.

The above clubs fall into the rivalry bracket for most of us. There's very few Town fans who's dislike for Gillingham goes beyond calling them Pikies.

Simply a case of the eggheads amongst our 'fanbase' getting a whiff that there may be trouble and not wanting to waste their big day out.

Saw a load of idiots at the Millwall home game a few weeks ago for example who I recognised from school etc that have always been involved in violence and getting themselves into trouble. Not Swindon supporters, just there thinking it would kick off.

I don't disagree, but they were still representing Swindon that day. For you (and most Swindon fans) to say it's a one way thing and you have nothing to do with it is clearly nonsense.

For the record I think it's utter bullshit. The only reason I don't like Swindon is cause their ticket prices are too high.

You'd have thought wouldn't you. Since the 'welcome' I got from the Gas in that pub the other year they're top of my list. I hate wasting beer but the morons breaking through that fence took a nearly full pint.

Ah, the Inn on the Green'. That was naughty, very naughty! Like most clubs, the gas have got a 'naughty' element but that one was really poor. If idiots want to fight opposing idiots then (excuse the pun) knock yourselves out but it should never effect normal supporters. Attacking average joe Swindon fans in the Inn on the Green was a dreadful thing to do.
Imagine what it's like if / when we play them??

Was their any proof the Inn On The Green incident was Rovers fans? City has always had more of an issue wit Swindon than the gas

Anyway pot kettle and all that as I remember years ago Swindon fans throwing bricks over into the away end from outside the ground when we were waiting to leave the County Ground.
