Since we're non league supporters, I'm sure there are a lot more of these performances than the other thread :ffs:

So which performance(s) has seen you hit the depths, the kind of depths when you've got home, closed the curtains, cut off civilisation, opened up a bottle of JD and sat and watched the VHS of the (and probably only) promotion season, to remind yourself that the good days are 'just around the corner'.

For the Imps see any of the final 10 games which saw us enter this hell hole, as for conference games, Carshalton at home in the trophy in which we drew (lost in the replay) was just a joke. There are many, many more which my fellow imps will remind me of.

Right, where's that bottle...

This is the easiest question for me to answer, a 2-1 defeat at Grays Athletic on the last day of the 09/10 season. We were quite simply dreadful, a point would have been enough due to results elsewhere and should have been confident of gaining that from a team who had been relegated weeks before. Using the words woeful, inadequate and inept doesn't even start to describe our performance on a sunny afternoon in Essex. At the final whistle half of our team couldn't get off the field fast enough, none of them were ever seen again in this part of the World, the remainder did acknowledge the fans who had tried to back their efforts and that couldn't have been easy. As things stood Rovers had been relegated and only the failings at Salisbury City earned the club a reprieve in the AGM Cup. Putting it quite simply, the worst day in all my years following football and a very long journey home.

The following season we nearly repeated this at Tamworth, where both teams went into the match knowing that either or both could be relegated depending on results elsewhere. There was only one set of results that would keep both teams in the division, which involved Tamworth winning and several other teams losing. That was precisely what happened, although going into injury time Rovers were looking like being relegated, by the time the final whistle sounded we were safe.

Why do we subject ourselves to such mental anguish?

We haven't had a good time of it in the last 10 years and have had a LOT of thumpings. From Hull 6-1 Tranmere (We were 2nd and 3rd in L1 at the time and they injured BOTH of our goalkeepers) to Millwall 5 - 0 Tranmere under Barnes to any of Peterborough's 4/5-0's against us to either of Swindon's 5-0's to right up to last season, we have had a lot of poor displays. Last season, though, was the worst I've ever seen. Less goals against, but performance levels reached a new level of shocking - see York away or Cheltenham away for further details.

25th August 2014. Grimsby Town 7-0 Alfreton

An abomination of a performance.
Beats the 7-0 thrashing at Bristol Rovers for me due the atmosphere and going to the game knowing deep down that we were pretty much down anyway. Meaning I tried to enjoy the day as much as possible and it was bloody hard when I heard Southport were winning at Welling!!

Loads to chose from, given the quality of some of the managers we've employed down the years.

Other then the 2 abominations at Grays and Tamworth mentioned by Greenacres, the other 2 that stick in my mind are; Cambridge 7-0 FGR in the league during the 09-10 season and Arlesey 2-1 FGR in the FA Cup 11-12.

Cambridge was in mitigating circumstances tbf as we were in a mess at the time without a manager and had our keeper sent off at 2-0. It could have been anything though, Cambridge weren't even trying and should have got double figures.

Arlesey was a complete joke, no excuses. They'd only won 1 game at home all season before playing us. Typical Hockaday.

Going further back I remember plenty of thrashings in the Conference, 7-1 at home to Hereford, 6-0 at Boston, plus several heavy beatings at the start of 04-05 when we lost our first 7, 6 under Tim Harris, which included a 2-0 loss at Leigh RMI who barely won another game that season.

Absolutely shocking performance & surprising we didnt lose by a lot more!! Didnt have a single shot on goal all game & when we some how managed to get a corner we all celebrated like we scored

Hyde 7 Woking 0 in our first season back in this division.

All the way up to Manchester in December to see Brett Johnson get wrongly sent off and then for everyone to give up. Phil Jevons tore us apart and scored four. Fortunately, we went to Lincoln on the Tuesday and beat them 2-0 for a nice little confidence booster.

Has to be either losing 5-0 at Braintree or losing 2-1 at Chasetown. There were some pathetic performances in our relegation season but that was a team full of kids or pissed up journeymen, was to be expected. The two mentioned however were inexplicable.

This, I wish i'd have gone to the game for a nice laugh to be honest.

The funny thing about that Braintree debacle is that for the first 40 minutes we absolutely battered them and should have been 3 or 4 up before they scored!
The rest, as they say, is history. :ffs: :ffs:

Wrexham 0-4 Telford. Getting outclassed by a side playing with Sam Smith upfront was enough for me. I left at half-time.

Honourable mention to Wrexham 0-2 Hayes in 2009. It was when Saunders went on international duty and we conceded the two ugliest goals ever in the first 10 minutes. Lamine Sakho got sent off for a headbutt that game too. Proper poisonous atmosphere that day.

Losing 3-0 at Shrewsbury in our relegation season is an older one. That was the day relegation sank in, and not one of the players that day gave a toss.

It was awful. Jevons scored some great goals, particularly his fourth. Ironically we had beaten Farnborough 7-0 in the FA Trophy the week before too.

I'm going to defend a selection of the final 10 games you speak of. Yes, we were dire in a good number, however:

Crewe (A) - denied a stonewall penalty at 1-0 up, would've killed the game. Ref then gives them one for a blatant dive, they equalise.

Oxford (A) - penultimate day, this wasn't a bad performance. Elliott Parish just acted like a moron coming for a cross at 1-0 up and that was it.

Port Vale (A) - dominated the majority of the game, scored early doors....they scored two unstoppable worldies in reply from memory.

Yes that run was bad, but oh my days, the footballing gods really were against us as well.

When the writing is on the wall there's nothing you can do about it, it was like a bloody car crash wasn't it?
To be fair our relegation had been coming for 2 or 3 seasons previous, just a question of when not if we would go.
Things just started going wrong after 2005 play off final and just got worse.

The Bury (0-5) and Rotherham (0-6) games were scarily bad. Those two stick out above anything I've ever watched I think.

Bury were a very good side that season and just totally outclassed us but that Rotherham game was one where we just made mistake after mistake.

Ok, here goes. We've had many, many poor performances over the years. One of the worst for me was at Luton in 1981 in what is now The Championship. We had a really decent side at the time but Luton played us off the park that day, we were awful and to make matters worse it pissed it down with rain all game. Final score was 6-0 to Luton and they went on to win promotion to The First Division at the end of the season.

Coming more up to date was losing at Oldham in 2004. They were celebrating being taken over and they let everyone in for free that day. The ground was absolutely rammed. The game was played on a Sunday and we drew the 2nd half 0-0. Just a shame that we lost the first half 6-0!!

I was rather fortunate to miss our 8-1 defeat at Hartlepool in 2003. The only good part about that was that it was played on a Friday night so Jeff Stelling didn't have the excuse to celebrate every goal like it was a World Cup winner.

Lincoln away in 2006 was pretty horrendous too. The infamous half-time team talk on the pitch by Russell Slade when we were 5-0 down. We did go someway to revenge that defeat though, when we beat them in The Play-Off Semi-Finals at the end of the season. However we then went on to put on another horror show at Cardiff. We only lost to Cheltenham 1-0 that day but we were atrocious, having beaten them comfortably twice during the season.

Torquay United away in 2007 is another one that comes to mind. Torquay were well adrift at the foot of League 2. We had lost our last 7 or 8 games and were 2nd bottom but they mullered us 4-1 that night. We were 4-0 down and I think it was Martin Patterson who scored a late consolation goal for us. Strangely enough though the next game was one of our best when we went to York Street, Boston and thumped them 6-0.

That's just a few away games that come to mind. There have been far, far too many home games that fall into this category to mention really.

Best headbutt ever though. He was a loon, Saunders had some contacts around the game that's for sure. I doubt any club down here has had the kind of names we had when he was in charge. We also lost 2-0 again at home to Hayes in 2011.

That Telford game was a shambles, a team that didn't care basically. There's been so many in this league though, I remember a particular performance away to Lincoln a few years back that was a disgrace as well. The 2-7 loss at home to Gateshead was shambolic on paper but you could say there were extenuating circumstances that day, there were protests against the crook owners all around the ground with nobody even watching the game. We bounced back with a brilliant 1-0 win at Wimbledon the next game I think.

The first Luton playoff game where we shit ourselves on the big stage and were 3-0 down at home at HT takes some beating. The crowning glory though has to be the Trophy Final last season, a shit covered shitty stick of a performance even though we were 2-0 up, followed by a mental collapse against a pub side in front of the cameras. Yep, it has to be that one for me. Still angry.

Thought Watts was just as bad.I walked out of the Gillingham game during that run as well.
Possibly the worst game since we got relegated was the home defeat NFU in the FA Trophy 0-4, absolutely bloody terrible that one was.

Might of been at the same game as you, Tranmere went top of what is now the championship on Easter Friday 1995 beating Bolton only to travel to Derby on Easter Monday, can remember leaving the ground when the fifth one went in and was on the train back home by 16:00.

Redbridge 2-0 Ebbsfleet.

2011 FA Cup I believe. We just didn't turn up. Really was painful to watch.

Of course I could mention defeats such as 6-2 at Fleetwood, 4-1 at Wrexham, 4-1 at Mansfield (the list goes on) but they were defeats before the game even kicked off.

Most of our games last season were absolutely terrible.

Seen us thrashed many a time, especially in the last few years. Most of them have been mentioned already. However, the worst performance I've ever seen from us was last year at York. Lost 2-0, should have been 7. I live in York too, so felt pretty sick about it for a good while after.

hmmm, do I go for an embarrasing cup exit or a league thrashing? We've had our fair share of both recently!

For me the 2 contenders are Halifax away in 13-14 when we lost 4-0 and Burgess Hill in the FA Trophy last season.

I'm going to go for Burgess Hill purely because when we played Halifax we were still sort of recovering from administration and at the time I think we had an injury crisis (I think Oyeleke got destroyed at right back that day), whereas taking 94 minutes to even have an attempt at scoring against a side 3 divisions below at home was as embarrassing as you can get!

Torquay 1 Braintree 5 .... even the 1-8 drubbing by Scunthorpe all those years ago pales into insignificance compared to this.
