Changed the poll options from 'Yes, Yes' to 'Yes, No' :p

I like it, but wouldn't really go out of my way to watch it, just put it on catch up when I'm bored.

I watch it if it's on when I'm in the room, mostly for the good looking companion, haha!

I loved it back when it started in its recent run but have found myself getting less and less interested in it. Most of that lack of interest coming from everything to do with River Song. What a fucking unwatchable character she is. But yeah, I do intend to catch up one day, still. The next thing i need to watch is the Xmas one with Nick Frost as Santa... then I believe it's like a season, then two more xmas ones, for me to be all caught up.

I am an old school Dr who fan who prefers the classic to new.

Nothing wrong with new, I just fine the constant tie to 45 min episodes has left no room for different things and it can be very repetitive

Was a bit like oaf and lost interest in new series, but mostly for the constant Dr who/companion love angle..

Whoa whoa fucking whoa... love angle? With companions? The only love stuff I remember was The Doctor and Rose, followed by Martha falling in love with him but getting nothing back... there was nothing since... unless that's covered in the season I missed. With Capaldi Doctor and Clara... which presents a bit of an age gap, if it happened then...

(And yes, I know, The Doctor is like 900 so it's always an age gap... but Capaldi is so much older as an actor than her... )

Yeah, they have (wisely) departed from that for a bit now. The sense of the companion being infatuated with the Doctor remains, which is pretty reasonable since he's an enormously charismatic figure who drops in and whisks them away on time travelling intergalactic adventures, but the sexual or romantic dimension was much more nuanced with Amy & Rory, and absent with Clara.

I can vaguely recall watching it when William Hartnell was the first Doc & one film in which Peter Cushing I believe portrayed him.

I used to watch it when David Tennent & Billie Piper were the main characters.

Tom Baker was my Favourite Doctor Who followed by John Pertwee. The new stuff is so far up it's own arse it's unwatchable nonsense.

"Up its own ass" is about the best possible way to describe Doctor Who, and I even say that as somebody who does intend to get up to date with it. The last few seasons or so have really gotten worse, and it's basically the main reason I don't find an urgent need to keep up to date with it. And it's best personified, of course, by that bitch River Song. My god, how I hate her.

I used to watch the old series, especially through the Pertwee, Baker and Davison eras. Since it came back, Tennant has been by far the best of the Doctors.

I am just too young to have watched Hartnell, and I can barely remember Troughton, I did watch them both, when they showed a lot of their episodes on the Horror Channel however.

I tried watching them but the haven't aged well i'm afraid the same as the series with Pertwee and Baker, best to just keep the good memories from my childhood i suppose.

mowgli: That's right. Especially the Hartnell years. OK and the "special effects" in the classic era are sometimes really "cheap" due to budget restrictions but some stories are great nonetheless (and many are crap, too)

In Germany we could see the Doctor for the first time at the end of the 80's with Sylvester McCoy as 7th Doctor when the newly Private TV Channels rose up here and they bought first cheap series from US and UK (I don't mean the quality but the price ;) ). Later they showed even the Colin Baker years and then that was it.

My first impression when I saw Sylvester McCoy and his "Police Box" was "WTF is that" :D . But then I was hooked. Remember this was the pre-internet era, so no information available about it through search engines. Then they showed Doctor Who again in 2005 and now with Internet available I downloaded all the other classic doctors (I remember that it was a 130 GB Torrent which was very risky here in Germany because of the strict copyright laws here but I think nobody gave a shit about 50 year old b/w uk series. Torrent d/l was chaotic (never used it again after that), took me weeks to complete it . Quality of it wasn't always the best but I had all episodes of the classic era then. Some episodes are still lost due to the BBC who used the tapes for others series and only available as so-called "Loose Cannon" episodes, more an audio-drama with pics. From all the Doctors I like Tom Baker the most, then Peter Davison.

Don't panic Leo, I also watched it from the very first episode but it didn't appeal to me then.

Like Doctor Who particulary the Ecclestone and David Tenant eras. Since then its just got worse and worse tho. Hopefully they cast someone interesting and the stories get better now Moffat is fucking off. Cannot stand his work.

Moffat is weird. He wrote some of the very best Doctor Who episodes and there was so much excitement when he was taking over as head show runner... but it's basically the start of his run that started Doctor Who on its slippery slope and he's made it a lot less watchable. I actually look forward to somebody else taking over now because I did used to really enjoy it in the day... if it can get back to that, happy days.
