We ain't good enough for the play offs, no chance imo anymore

No idea how we managed to win against Salford, definitely unjust.

What's the point of a forum if you can't speculate.
Didn't say you can't speculate, just that its no more than guess work about what might happen. I have supported Tranmere Rovers for 44 years and honestly have no idea what they will do. They are unpredictable.

John Aldridge received far more abuse from opposition fans than he gave. He was a wind up merchant though and more often than not he had the last laugh because of his prolific goal scoring. Thus making him one of the most hated players of his time with other clubs fans.
Can remember him wheeling away from the Bolton fans giving them the finger after Pat Nevin scored the winning goal on Easter Friday 1995 causing many a trotter to lose the plot. Can’t remember Aldo himself being prolific against Bolton though.
Two great Bolton players of the time I couldn’t stand were David Lee and John Mcginlay. Lee had the ability to dive yards up into the air when anyone came close to him and Mcginlay always left a bit in when tackling. Two great footballers non the less.
As RobShep says, the animosity between the 2 clubs goes back to a FA cup tie and replay in 1983 when away fans at both ties got slashed. Then during another FA cup tie at Burnden park in 1986, Nat Lofthouse called the Tranmere support “scum” during half time announcements.
Just like to conclude with my neighbours are Bolton fans, as too are my window cleaners and over the years have had many colleagues who have supported Bolton and they’ve all been good people.
I always liked Aldridge but that was mainly because in a Tranmere v Grimsby game in the mid 90’s back when we had Ivano Bonetti playing for us and with both teams amazingly at the top of the Championship, we were leading 1-0 going into injury time but really should have been 3 or 4 up after completely dominating the game and Tranmere were given a pen and I felt sick.
But good old Aldridge did his little shimmy on his run up and fired it over the bar, always loved him for that as for a while that season we were custodians of the promotion places, before of course it all went tits up away at Luton. :box:

Hahahahah what a troll. I mean I like Carlisle but ‘only team good enough to hold their own in league 1’ and maybe championship. Can’t even hold your own in league 2 atm. You battered us at your place when we were shit before we changed shape and the business in January - still not sure how we got a point but on current form no chance. Several teams have way better squads in this league after January including us.

Even Salford beat Pompey who are in league 1 playoffs. And Salford are probably not even getting playoffs now.
It’s Carver’s second account mate, every time he makes one of his bullish predictions that doesn’t come true he disappears for a bit and then comes back as Red Fox.

We actually won one of our last two, but I agree.
Apologies, I had the Barrow and Morecambe games in my head and forgot you beat Salford in between. Anyway, my point was that you had so many chances in the Barrow and Morecambe games you could have won both 4 or 5-0. They weren’t defeats due to bad performances.

Aldo wasn’t the best penalty taker going, even doing the shimmy.
Ivano Bonetti, what a player for you he was. Juventus to Grimsby, you could do with a bit of that now.

Barrow I'd agree - Morecambe was a strange one because the got their lead then let us control the game. Whilst we had a lot of shots, it's not like any were clear cut. Morecambe were never hanging on for dear life like Barrow were in the first half of our game (2nd half we were dire against Barrow).

But, as pointed out on many occasions, we're having a season of rising to the occasion. We've won games against fancied teams having lost to the unfancied ones before - as you say, loss to Barrow then beat Salford.

I'm happy for us to be written off, whenever we've had great seasons it's rare we've been one of the favourites. Our promotion in 05/06 we were actually faves for relegation.

Aldo was a club legend here! he was languishing in a pub league with south liverpool before our manager at the time len ashurst brought him here when he became half of the best strikeforce we ever had along with his scouse partner tommy tynan who i think luke imp can confirm came to us from lincoln city.

South Liverpool were in the Northern Premier League. At that time one level below Division 4. Its where Workington, Barrow and Southport went after failing to get re-elected and Wigan Athletic came from. Hardly a pub league.

That was some strike partnership that was, Tynan and Aldridge.
One of my all time favourite European games was that quarter final at Somerton Park against Carl Zeis Jena. How Newport didn’t score in that game I’ll never know.

Yep. That's right.

Life is full of mysteries, and one such example is the reasoning behind the Carlisle fans creating multiple accounts. I haven't really thought about seeking the answer to this rather odd phenomenon - I've got better things to do than that - but if I'm asked to come up with an answer I'll probably say it's not a serious psychological problem but merely a case of inferiority complex.

In short, some Carlisle fan probably thinks that Carlisle are 'under represented' on this forum so he (or she) attempt to solve the problem by creating duplicate accounts.

It's not that hard this psychology stuff

Yes!! that was a great game, and i think if aldo had been playing we would have scored but unfortunatly he was injured so david gwyther played, he was a good striker was gwyther but he was no john aldridge, it still peeves us to today that we let aldo go to oxford for a measley 50k especially as they sold him to liverpool a year later for 1 million.

Yes rob i done the npl a dis-service calling it a pub league, my point being aldo was languishing there and len ashurst knew he was capable of much better, how right was he.

We tried to sign Aldo from South Liverpool but couldn’t afford the £10k!

We signed him 12 years later and he still had it. 180 goals for £250,000. He was 32 when he joined us. Bargain.

At the time in the early 80s we were owned and being bankrolled by a local family business, they spent wisely at first on the players the manager wanted aldo being one of them, but when ashurst left and colin addison took over they started paying stupid money for a club like us on the likes of alan waddle who cost 100k and that and a few others culminated in our demise and eventually going out of business.

We were bankrolled to a certain extent by Peter Johnson of Park Hampers but after he went to Everton we got sensible (apart from Frank Corfe and his creative accounting) and stopped spending money we didn't have. We ended up in the National League but got a new owner who knows what he is doing. Without Mark Palios we would probably be a phoenix club now.

I was attacked by Orient fans after a cup game in the late 80s.
Do I still harbour a grudge? Nah. Well, not much....
Probably thought you were related to Genghis Khan after his invasion of Exeter. He caused mayhem in the Orient.

Tommy Tynan was before my time, but he is a cult hero down here, with many referring to him as Sir Tommy of Tynan. Scored over 120 goals in about 280 games I think. As he is now a taxi driver for one of the larger taxi companies down here, sightings are quite common.

He was something of a legend in newport as well and not just on the football field his exploits in the pubs and nightclubs of newport are legendary.

His cousin Bobby Tynan was a cracking player but had to retire at 21 with an injury that can be fixed these days. He would have had a very good career.

Well some forum members think that Carver is a duplicate account, and we all know this Redfox character is Carver. So if these posters are right then somebody on here has got 3 accounts. Frankly I'm not bothered at all, assuming this is all true of course.

This is only a footy forum after all and people can have 27 different accounts for all I care.

I have a book written with one of one journos and Tynan and that side of his “interests” comes out loud and clear!

Can’t believe we’re still only 2 points off the top 3. Bolton will be sweating with on fire sides like us and Tranmere right on their tail.
