We could be promoted a week on Saturday. I think, and I can't be certain as I haven't double-checked, if results go our way we could be all but up next Tuesday.

I'm almost giddy.
If you just draw the game in hand you should do it. Morecambe would need 3 more wins than you over 5 games and I'd be surprised if they won all 5.

I'm delighted to be where we are, but there's something about Bolton, especially over the last 10 years. We never do it the easy way. Think 9 points should be enough, probably less too, but I'd rather make it sure.

Cheltenham are odds-on to be one of the three auto-promoted teams and possibly Champions.
Am I right in thinking that would be a first and other promotions were via play-offs?

Best indicator is points per game at this stage the trend says Morecombe finish on 74 points obviously if they perform better over the last 5 games that goes out the window. It's a low total this year currently 71 is the final play off place. From our point of view we need to stop Morecambe or avoid defeat. They have a decent run in.

Game at a time is still best way forward as Holty says teams tend to put you through the ringer (not just Bolton) Our fans will expect a win at Grimsby but they are 14th in the form table and drew with Cheltenham so nothing is a given.

If you win your next two (78 points) and from fourth to 9th drop at least 3 points then your GD over Morecambe would make you 99% certain of Promotion (next Tuesday). Draw against Colchester would then sort out the other 1%. Of course they all have to lose though. and you have to get 7 points for that to happen.

It'll be our first Football League automatic promotion.

Our promotions to the Football League were as Champions of course.

Morecambe will need to be on it because their run in isn't as easy as it looks.

Oldham - you never really know what Oldham you will get but they have already won away at Cambridge, Bolton, Exeter and Newport.
Grimsby - As we know, fighting for their lives and are in good form.
Bolton - flying.
Walsall - Won two on the bounce and seem to be playing some good football
Bradford - Again you never know what Bradford you will get.

I can't see them winning 4 of those. I think they'll pick up 7 points from those remaining games.

This is a crazy end to the season.. nobody in the top half has won more than 3 of the last five and we've won as many games in the last five as the four teams occupying the playoff places have combined.

I really thought two games ago that if we won against Barrow and Newport then we'd have a real shot of making the playoffs, that we might still be outsiders if we only won one of the two games but anything else would leave us with too much of a mountain to climb. A goal against Newport last night though would have propelled us into the playoff positions.

Massive games coming up could decide this. FGR and then Newport. I'll take 4 points from those

Put Newport in for Carlisle...............That is your top 7 for this year
Bolton/ Morecambe for that 3rd place
Either Bolton or Morecambe to win the play offs

It is often difficult for the side who just misses out on the automatics to pick themselves up for the play-offs and I don’t think it’s a given that the 4th placed team will be the one to go up this season.

Rovers probably need to win one or draw all of our remaking games to secure their play-off place. While it’s more likely than not we will achieve that, I wouldn’t be that hopeful about further progress, given James Vaughan picked up an injury at the weekend and may not feature again this season.

Agreed Boz
My statement was because Tranmere, FGR, Newport are all teams who have lost there best players be it injury/sold or both.
Those 3 teams are not as strong now as they were at the back end of last year

Vaughan could yet be back for the play offs. We don't know the extent of his problem yet, because the club have not announced anything.

I don't think it is a given that Bolton or Morecambe go up if they don't make the top three.

Guessing only Exeter and Salford fancy their changes of sneaking into the PO's now? Tough ask for Orient having played an extra game and Carlisle.

No way will it be a given......Just the other teams are without key players

You said you would win the league by Easter though. Easter was a few weeks ago and you’re not even second.

Should never get too bullish, the league table doesn’t lie, you are a good but not spectacular league 2 side, who are battling with Morecambe for that last promotion spot.

Every team has a small percentage of idiots who support them. We have a decent size fan base so we obviously have more idiots ...

Agree. Playoffs are a lottery. We absolutely do not want playoffs now because I think we’d find it really hard to pick the team up after the position we put ourselves in. I do think it’s between us and Morecambe now though. Not a given but highly likely

I'm trying to take a bit of confidence that our squad as it stands (Since deadline day) is top of the table.

I think we are so close to clicking but the inconsistency at this level is huge. Even mid game you can flick a switch and change completely.
