This has all the hallmarks now of Salford making the playoffs and going up no matter how unimpressive I’ve found them to be.

Biggest game of the season for us kicks off in 30 mins time. Evatt gone out and bolstered the squad in January
with some top signings for league 2
Tonight we have our strongest team of the season out against mansfield. Sarcevic and Brockbank are the only two missing bar our 2 long term injuries [politic Edwards]
Time for the talking to stop........we dont win tonight i think thats us in this league again next year.

On paper this team should not get beat tonight but its played on grass be it in patches at Mansfield

Evatt revolution starts tonight
Guess i was right with the timing of Evatt revolution

Looking at the form table over the last 23 league games, or basically half a seasons worth of matches, pretty shocking to see Newport, ourselves and Carlisle all in the bottom 8.

I mean to be that poor for that long and still be in the play off hunt is ridiculous really.

It is not shocking in the slightest.......Some predicted that those three teams and to a extent Cambridge and Morecambe would drop down. All 5 clubs played above expectations in the first half of the season.
Come January those clubs also lost some of there best players or suffered injury wise. Cambridge managed to carry on winning mainly because of 2 players., Morecambe have been the exception. You sold your captain then your best player got injured.........You had a decent 11 but a thin squad

I could not call this league next season in all honesty

We've just got to win our last 2 games by a combined probably 7-0 and everyone above us needs to lose their last games. Simple really.

I think the top 3 will remain as they are, tranmere and morcambe are nailed on for the play offs so between us forest green exeter and salford for the last 2 play off spots, none of us 4 can afford to drop another point or thats the end of any ambitions of making the PO's, if we are to loose out i would'nt mind if it were to exeter or forest green but i would be really pissed if it was to salford.

I don't think the 'Fat Lady' is yet ready to sing.
There are a few prestigious games on Saturday that could well determine play-offs or even a place in the autos.
1619517263038.png

Bolton at home to Exeter is the one game that stands out. Bolton have not crossed the auto promotion line and Exeter need a win for a place in top 7.
FGR v Tranmere appears to be a safe fixture for both clubs. Whatever WLD and both clubs would probably remain in top seven.
Newport is always a difficult away fixture, and as Cheltenham have virtually won title they might mentally ease up.

On paper Salford have an eminently easy win ahead of Saturday. That could bring them into a top seven spot if FGR or Newport falter.
Mathematically Morecambe could win place in autos or even title. And with Bolton having a more competitive match, who knows?

Having written all that, the games tonight might be just as significant.
Salford, Cheltenham, Exeter, FGR & Newport should all win.

Bolton are obvious favourites for 3rd auto promotion spot but Morecambe are breathing heavily down their necks.
Agree we must all wait and see.
The were breathing a lot harder before saturday they need 4 points in 2 games just to draw level if that happens then a draw is enough for us. I will take that at this stage.

If there was one team that I didn’t want us to face in the playoffs it would be Exeter. Avoid them and I’d be quietly confident. However over two legs they’d have us beat I reckon.

You’d happily play them in a playoff final though wouldn’t you with their recent history in playoff finals? It wasn’t that long ago the Exeter fans on here said they would rather finishing outside the playoffs so they didn’t have to suffer it again...

I think the red card at the weekend gifted us the game and hopefully promotion. We scored 3 in the last 10 mins to come from 2 down to beat Mansfield which we didn’t deserve. We got 3-3 really late against Carlisle after being battered. We scored last kick of the game against Barrow to win 1-0 and in the away game we scored virtually last kick to equalise. We have scored a ridiculous number of late goals this season. Plus...arguably your best player Matt breaks his hand in a freak accident against us when you had a great chance of autos. Carlisle and Morecambe both missed sitters against us in injury time at the end of the games. When things like that happen for you in these types of runs you have to believe you’re going up.

I would not fancy Salford either to be honest. They are the one team in the chasing pack that is in good form, and Bowyer finally seems to be getting a tune out of their expensively assembled squad.

Agree the red card turned the game at Morecambe But they gained at our patch after we outplayed them and Maddison was sent off. Most of the examples you point out was the pre January squad when we were truly awful, and don't we always say that it's a good team that score late on and make thier own luck. (Man U for example) Also didn't we play extremly well at Bradford to be done in the last few seconds ? I would be surprised if every team couldn't come up with a similar set of late goals and snatching games they didn't deserve. You will hear our fans say we will do it the hard way and go to the last game, without realising every teams fans think exactly the same.

Yeah, they look a bit ominous to me too and if we drop out afraid it will be to them.

I think clubs are massively underestimating us who have had 3 games postponed as of late. Grimsby, Barrow and Harrogate. That's 7 points, minimum.
I must be struggling to understand the English language as I thought that the term ‘minimum’ meant the lowest that there could possibly be, but you picked up just 4 points from those games so I’m a little bit confused. :dk:
Saying that though, you were only around 40% off the mark with your prediction and given your usual form that’s a terrific effort from you so congratulations.

You dont seem very jovial for some reason

Anyone that's watched us tonight would be anything but Jovial. Tranmere can boot us off this thread on Saturday, which will probably be for the best given how the playoffs are on TV.

We’re not fully in the playoffs yet either. Lose to FGR and the likes of Salford, Newport and Exeter win on the weekend then we’d need to beat Colchester to secure it. Alternatively, if we win Saturday and Bolton lose then we go into the last day with automatic promotion hopes!

No one does that, so no need to worry.

Why would you want automatic? dont you fancy a repeat of the final 2 years ago? but not a repeat of the result obviously.

Haha if someone offered me the chance to play you in the Final right now I’d snap your hand off!

Id be confident if we got to Wembley regardless of opposition. With some of the players we’ve got, the pitch there suits us to a tee. Saw that in the Final v Sunderland where we more than matched them last month.

Our 10 game form reads won 1 drawn 3 lost 6. We've failed to score in 7 of those games, and only scored more then once in 1 game (v Sunthorpe).

Given we probably have to beat both Tranmere and Oldham to have any realistic chance of the top 7 our chances look slim at best. Hopefully Tranmere will be taking things lightly on Saturday as they prepare for the playoffs.

Not sure they will with a chance at autos still. Hope you can turn it round, as it helps us and I also don't want to see Salford going up.

Not happening unfortunately, no-one due back in from injury and whatever bounce if it even was from sacking Cooper over now, so expect more of the same. Fair chance we won't score again this season. Squad is falling back to about where they belong really, upper midtable, but obviously bit of a fucker having stayed in the hunt so long, even if that was more luck than anything for a while.

I think we'd feel the same. Club to avoid is Salford for me, who we've drawn with home and away this season. If we do reach the play-offs hopefully someone else can turn them over. We've beaten Bolton and Morecambe home and away and beaten you boys at home so wouldn't be too worried there. Of course its a one-off game and anything can happen.
