To be fair to the Colchester manager (and Pennock, I suppose), Holman spent nearly all of 2014-15 out on loan at Wrexham, Aldershot and Dover, and he didn't exactly set the Conference alight during that time. It was only when he came to Woking last season as a replacement for Scott Rendell that he starting playing and scoring regularly and people began to take notice of him.

Yeah but the advice Pennock had been given had actually been based on the two years Holman had spent at Braintree under Devonshire (so the style of football was more direct than under Hill at Woking, so more Pennock type style) added to the fact he was also in good form at Woking but Pennock had basically no idea about any players in the Conference or L1, L2. Or a decent scout like Mr J's bro.
