another 1-1 home draw, Leyton Orient did virtually nothing apart from the 1 goal. ref was no better - Orient got 1 red and 6 yellows and Barrow 4 yellows. Another 2 points dropped at home - should have had 7 or 9 so far ffs.

Second half we kept at it while Port Vale just fell away... after the missed penalty in any case. It was a good solid win, which is something I like to see. We showed good strength and game-management. Could have been different had that penalty been scored but we reacted well and really could have tied it up at the end when Toure was one-on-one with the keeper.

Mellish continues to be an enigma, at times he looks like a carthorse, giving the ball away but he's a real physical presence in midfield, good fitness and positive in bringing the ball forward, and then rounds it off by being a goal-threat like some kind of lower league Granit Xhaka. Four goals in the last three games for someone who was our second choice centre back last season.

Easy win against an awful Scunny side, but you can only beat what's in front of you, so very happy with that.

Put the first three results down to finding our feet, but the last two definitely have me concerned. 75% of those games have been against ten men, and we've mustered a single goal in all that time.

The aim was always to survive this season for me but improvements required if we're going to manage that.

So in what world did you deserve the 3 points?
Stats don’t tell the full picture you can have shots without looking threatening you had 5 min spell start of second half where you did threaten your actual goals were through a gk error and hit and hope wonder goal with a second to go
Add to the fact we are shit and your side is good we contained you well and deserved the win

That was as comfortable a win as I've seen, should have been more than 2-0. Win our game in hand on Tuesday and we'll go top.

Are Morecambe going back to their old ways of picking up all the points they need to survive in the first three months and then taking the rest of the season off? Or is this something different under a different manager?

Watch the highlights tonight for the worst miss you'll see all season. Josh Kay heading over from a yard out in injury time. Another two points dropped.

Wouldn't shock me if Morecambe stormed to the title tbh. Got some real quality there.

We dominated the game pretty much from start to finish, even in the first half when we had our worse 45 mins of the season we were still the better side. You had 2 shots on goal and one was a penalty. Should've had 3 points but will grumpily accept 1. Getting nothing from that game would've been daylight robbery. Southend are in trouble, definitely the worst team we have played so far, although we have played the majority of the promotion faves so far.

A good point gained for us there after having to play 80mins with ten men, awful defending from Dan Happe in the 10th minute - he should've just let the Barrow player go though and score. I thought we looked on it in the first ten minutes and we caused Barrow some problems.

Second half Danny Johnson managed to capitalise on a Barrow mistake in midfield to take his one and only chance of the game.

Both sides IMO missed a sitter each to win that, a draw was fair I thought. Second half we defended well to get something out of that, which isn't said too often.

Barrow were average I thought and certainly two points dropped for them, they seemed to be playing with a bit of pressure on them.

No doubt port vale had an off day and were unfortunate by missing a penalty, but that was a convincing performance from us considering we were away to a formidable home side and had quite a few players missing. Beech has got us looking like a half decent team after the poor start to the season we had. 3 clean sheets in our 5 league games now. Really have to start taking chances though, as good as Toure is he had 2 glorious chances to seal the win today and he missed both. One of the best games Lewis Alessandra has had, excellent from him.

We’ve had three off days, bar smashing a woeful Wigan that a pub side would hit three past we’ve been really off the boil.

Missing some key players and luckily Smudge is back next week, no idea where Cullen was but I said before Askey was gambling and it backfired massively. Leaving our best midfielder out, playing Whitehead who was absolutely woeful instead.

Need to get back to what we do well and quickly but have some real tough games up now with Salford H, Cambridge A, Cheltenham H all up this month.

No excuses today Askey has to take the blame for that selection, performance was pretty much a Neil Aspin one from 2 years ago. Hope Manny is back next week as it needed his power in the middle today.

Toure looked ok, tricky but couldn’t hit a barn door, similar to Rodney in style.

A very good 3 points and fully deserved against a team in Newport who will be up there this season. Why on earth did Tranmere let Mullin go? That's 8 goals already for him this season and is an all round top striker.

Our summer recruitment has been excellent and my bullishness is rising by each game. Scunthorpe away next and then Port Vale and Bolton at home. After those games if we are still in the mix then we have a very good chance for top 7.

Think it’s too early to say Newport will be up there.

I dunno, it seems the opposite to me - the players aren't feeling any pressure, so everything's half-arsed. Almost every goal we've given away this season has been somebody switching off and giving the ball away.
Didn't help that we had no attacking options on the bench to change it.

I've watched Crawley play two half decent sides this season (Vale and Cheltenham) and we were disposed of quite easily by both.

I do think both sides will need to do better against better opposition but they didn't have to against us. We are obviously giving out half time drinks of Horlicks. Sleepy or what. Also, John Yems is meant to be a pragmatic coach who sets a side correctly but I have to doubt that as I watched our best forward spend all of the first half chasing the wing back towards our goal and then not being able to get in the Cheltenham box.

The Robins will be up there this season. We will be looking over our shoulders.

Drew 0-0 with Mansfield. Fair result on the balance of play and a massive improvement on last weeks performance vs Salford. For the first hour or so I thought we were the better side but we lack a cutting edge, by the end of the game I was happy with a point as Mansfield had a couple of decent efforts on goal including a strike off the bar in injury time.

Aitchison seems to have something about him, thought he had a decent debut. Interesting line up, I assumed it'd be a 4-3-3 as per normal but Marshall dropped into defence and we went more of a 3-4-3, given his flexibility it gives us the option to change between the two. I wonder whether the change was to accommodate Aitchison, pushing the two full backs into a higher position, it's up to them to provide the width and it allows the front three to play a little bit narrower. Saying that Osbourne was missing today so could have been something to do with that too. Either way, glad to get something from the game, put an end to the losing streak, keen to avoid a repeat of last year!

Glad Mullin’s doing well for you. He didn’t get much of a chance in L2 with us, partly down to Norwood’s form and Mellon didn’t seem to rate him. Got more of a chance in L1 and didn’t make the most of it, but Paul’s winner got us the Cup tie with Man U, so always grateful for that. Think maybe he tried too hard to impress when he was given limited playing time and the fact he’s a regular for Cambridge has boosted his confidence.

When does the Port Vale title charge start?

We are giving you all a chance...

In all seriousness though we’ve gone off the boil big time, the side that looked so polished in September has lost it’s way, injuries haven’t helped we had a fair few missing again but Askey hasn’t helped himself with some clangers.

Big games next week and we need to get a rocket for them. Games that tend to suit us against sides that will be more open against us so hopefully that can end our form.

Squad is good enough to be up there but as I’ve said before we’ve all seen Mansfield and Notts Co in recent years to know it’s not always a guarantee.

Absolute stunner to be fair but let’s be honest Wigan’s back line is absolutely laughable. We made 8 changes and should of won by 6 or 7 (sums up our problems at the moment that we didn’t).
