He really is and that's why the FA have trusted him with the England C job for so long.

They're the only two names I've heard suggested.

We were so dysfunctional that season that you couldn’t really pin much of our relegation on Kewell, but he was completely unlikeable on every level.

We’re aiming to have more managers than league wins this season.

The next appointment makes it League Wins 3, Managers 4.

We’ve sacked Ardley, absolutely amazed tbh.

Possibly a little too late?

While not giving up on the title, however unlikely, I should think 2/3 is the aim. Not inviting applicants for the job either - someone is lined up.

"We do not, however, apply short-term thinking to decisions of this magnitude. We consider many factors which far outweigh our results in the last few matches and these deliberations have ultimately led us to conclude that we can be better, and that a change is needed to take us to the next level.”

Weird timing. I’ve been critical of him but would definitely have made a decision when his contract ran out in the summer. Really I’m a bit gutted, think everyone at Notts has a lot of respect for NA and the way he’s conducted himself, so I’d rather a more amicable thing in the summer as I think it had become clear he wasn’t going to be the man for the long term.

It kind of shouldn’t be a surprise, though. When NA was under pressure early last season our owners were steadfast in their support because the underlying data on our performances were good, and in the end they were proven right because we turned it into consistent wins. This season we’ve basically been horrible performance wise from the off.

Chance would be a fine thing! Might be Michael Doyle or something until the end of the season to scare the players into winning, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some stat-based random appointment from beyond these shores. The only out of work manager I can think of right now that might fit the bill is Richie Wellens.

I hope they appoint the Chesterfield manager.

Excited for the data nerd’s first meeting with Michael Doyle.

Notts sound like us with all the stats talk on here. Our D.O.F is cut from that cloth.

I saw a couple of interviews with that Ardley before and after they played us. Seemed a good guy to be honest.

Trying to time the new manager bounce to hit the play offs running?

He is a very fine bloke, speaks very well, tremendous ambassador for the club - just probably not ruthless enough to shithouse his way out of this league. I’m sure he’ll get another decent job, still has a good CV.

That's a turn up for the books!

I think it's the right decision - possibly a little late, but I'm pleased nonetheless.

Neal Ardley undoubtedly cared about the job and worked hard, but ultimately ran out of ideas and has had the full backing of the board as this is undoubtedly 'his' squad. Wishing him the very best for the future.

Fingers crossed the next manager can move us on a bit.

Yeah, no one has a bad word to say about him as a person. Which maybe is part of the problem?

Surprised by the number of Notts fans on Twitter who are disappointed by this.

Pleased the decision has been made. It was hard/impossible to imagine Ardley getting us promoted so it was only a matter of time.

Obviously looks as if someone else has been lined up, what’s Gary Mills doing nowadays?

He’s a nice bloke and many think sacking too many managers is what has got us in non league.
Personally I think it’s been appointing too many bad ones but you know what opinions are like.

Sorry to see him go but not surprised.
Fine margins, if we'd scored the last minute sitter yesterday, we'd have been 10 pts from 12 with a cup semi final and the expectation of winning on Saturday. Instead our top scorer and best finisher misses and Ardley's down the road.
We're not interviewing apparently so either someone's lined up or we're going to pay compensation to get who the owners want.

Reading that statement, seems it was probably happening even if we won last night.

I thought they'd probably get rid of him at the end of the season if they remained down here.

If I remember rightly, he didn't get much of a 'bounce' when he took over in their L2 relegation season and went down with a bit if a whimper (bar a three game run against Lincoln, Mansfield and FGR I think?). Perhaps an element of player attitude there but even so, you'd have expected something.

Assuming Notts are still here next season, then the owners are probably looking at Stockport, Wrexham with their money (again, assuming they're down here) and need someone who's going to give them a bit more than Ardley was. He did seem a risk averse manager, though. Similar to Paul Hurst when he was down here with Grimsby. Unfortunately you need to take risks at this level with only one automatic promotion place. I can only go from what Notts fans have said on here but I'm not sure Ardley had it in him to do that.

Pretty much agree with that. I feel like NA would be capable of getting a much worse team than our current one to the play-offs, but would struggle to win the league even with a much better set of players than we have.

Worrying signs for this season were there from the opening game, when we lost to a late goal against Dover and he said we were ‘a few minutes from a good away point’. It was obvious to everyone even then that Dover were basically cannon fodder.

bad news for chesterfield this as with ardley there to the end of the season and his defensive ways Chesterfield would have taken their place in the playoffs

I think sacking Ardley makes us more likely to implode and not finish in the play-offs to be honest.

Got our sights firmly set on Bromley at this moment in time, not bothered about anything above 7th until we actually get there!
