I’m seeing a lot of 9th/10th for Mansfield and I think that’s about right, maybe even a tad optimistic with our defence right now.

If it’s ok with you all, I will choose my own name, but thanks for the concern!

masi51, I didn’t suggest we will finish above you, that was someone else. In fact I don’t we have got a cat in hell’s chance of finishing above you.

Finally, as Si Robin, has indicated, it’s not rocket science. There is a little section on the left hand side that shows who you support. We all have it. People can just look at that.

I’ve been pretty disengaged with football since COVID brought last year to an early close but here goes...

As for Latics, we’ve actually recruited fairly well and the early signs are much better than previous seasons. However we lack depth and a couple of mouldy old cloggers to guide the younger players through. I’m also fully expecting at least one off-field crisis so will probably be a bottom half finish... again

I think we have recruited very well with a different type of player. Hopefully our owners have started to realise a change of tact was needed.
I've read our squad is one of the most expensive in league 2, believe that or not.
We have what looks to be a very attacking team with goals possible from quite a few players add to that decent midfielders from what I have seen.
We've signed a few players that should be hungry to impress and who could bring in revenue if the perform well.
We are written off because of the off field dramas without most people having much knowledge of the new squad.
I predict a good season.

How about 'Posh Grimsby Town supporter not Peterborough United supporter Harry'?

Catchy AND stops all the confusion anger and stress your current name is causing.

I originally tipped Oldham for 24th, but Kewell seems to have made some decent signings (and Bobby Grant, who has talent but hasn't shown much for several years). If he and your chairman (who I class more as out of his depth, rather than an evil conman of the Bury/Macc variety) can agree a sensible working relationship (avoiding signing French 4th Division clients of his brother?) then I'll be glad to be wrong. Dale need some competition for the Third Best Team in Greater Manchester slot, after all!

Not exactly a crisis but right on cue, our MD has been sacked. No sympathy for anyone choosing to work under the owner at the stage - everyone knows what he’s like - but I wonder what the excuse will be this time.

You was telling me a fortnight ago that pre season games dont matter....which is it

You’ve been saying how your lot have to be up for it in the last 3 games.

How did that work out?

I think you’re probably right there. He’s a fool of the highest order (the guy didn’t even know what he had and hadn’t bought when he took over the club) but I’m not convinced there’s anything malicious to it.

The French 4th/5th tier recruitment policy was bizarre to say the least and unsurprisingly fell flat on its arse. Credit where it’s due, recruitment is better this year. However there are still numerous off-field issues including the closure of our new stand which is no closer to a resolution and there’s no chance we’ll get to May without some sort of self-combustion. Of course it’s the fans stuck in the middle - I’d say we’re due a turnaround in fortunes, but don’t think that will happen for the foreseeable.

Alot of people are predicting us (vale) to win the the league or finish top 3 I dont think we will score enough goals for that. I think play offs is the best we will do.

I agree, although I think Vale are pretty much the most solid shout for play-offs. Walsall too but it’s a bigger turnaround for them.

Do you know what; as I was just scrolling through this thread, I was thinking exactly that. I think you’ve got quality in certain areas, but there doesn’t appear to be enough goals in your squad. Like us in many ways (for the moment, anyway).

I would tend to agree with you if John Askey wasn’t manager!

I don’t know, on the face of it Robinson had the second best goals to game ratio in the division last season I believe (only Doyle ahead) and Cullen and Pope are both capable options too so I’d say we’ve got more goals than last season for instance. We did last season spread the goals about through the team with Legge and Smith getting a few from centre back, Burgess, Taylor (who isn’t with us) and the likes of Wozza and Amoo.

We do set up with one up front though so it isn’t a case that we do hammer or really go at teams, it’s more about the high press, forcing the errors and trying to go from there.

I think play offs should be achievable though, the depth is there beyond anything we’ve had for years and could pretty much play two XIs that would be able to compete which with the games coming thick and fast is probably a good advantage to have.

We’ve built the side up with a lot of the squad Askey actually inherited which finished 20th and added and tweaked it.

Overall though it’s a competitive division, Bolton will start slow i imagine but will surely come good, Bradford, Cheltenham, Exeter, Salford, Mansfield off the top of my head are all good sides, can never write off teams like Walsall who’d improved so it’s no guarantee. We have a better squad than last year yes and by that logic we should finish higher which is a play off spot minimum but with the Covid and the cap on players sides demands wage wise will be lower and the quality possibly higher across all teams.

I am excited but cautious as a Vale fan that’s had experience being burnt before! It’s nice to be favoured though than having our EFL status debated as being on the line!

Stability is one of the factors in Port Vale’s favour, they’ve kept the core and made some good additions to the squad, with much more depth than Rovers have. Their manager is an asset whereas Salford and last season’s Mansfield underperformed given the squads at their disposal because of their bosses. I don’t think there are any stand-out teams for the coming season, neither are there any sides light years behind the rest

Imagine what it would feel like for Mike Jackson if he didn't have the full backing of the "supporters" of TRFC. We have had two draws in cup games. Judge the team and its manager after 10 league games. We have always been poor at penalties. Even the England team could beat us at them.

Just put the call in to Boss Embleton - he’s confirmed that we’ll be rolling over twice for the Fishies this season.

Unfortunately I think that $alford will have that dubious accolade sewn up by default next season. To be fair it’s not the same down here without you.

I have talked to a few Everton supporters and showed them the messages from this TRFC "fan". They said that if he was a bluenose he would have good reason to be the way he is. £250m transfer deficit to be as crap as they were 4 years ago. We spent next to nothing and got 2 promotions but its still all doom and gloom. No time for that kind.
