Pardew is one of them blokes with no plan B.
As for Pulis and Alardyce they are only good when the players are average. Give them some top drawer players and they fall short, main reason why Big Sam left West Ham last season..

You said "the rest of his career is comprised relegation..." implying it was more than half a season at a club in decline. In the same way that I'd blame Remi Garde for Villa going down, but I'd reserve at least 50% of blame for the owners, players and Tim sodding Sherwood.

Only 50!? I'd say Garde is about 2% responsible, the board about 60%, Sherwood about 15%, the players about 23%...

Pinpoint? Sure, as it seems a non-Newcastle fan seems to know your seasons under Pardew better than you do. My "vague recollections" seemingly ring true: 12th, 5th, 16th (but 5pts clear), 10th, can't recall the position when he left. You're an average team with an overall average league position during Pardew's reign - that record isn't indicative of a "bad" manager or "flirtation with relegation on the regular".

Especially given Kinnear (I didn't say he was there for all his spell), Ashley, under-investment only addressed after he left (and hilariously gotten you nowhere), and fans like yourself who fulfil the Magpie stereotype with aplomb... you were actually pretty decent during his spell. And yet you got to enjoy a (quickly forgotten) real CL push in the mix that barely any other average Prem team or fan have been able to enjoy in the modern era.

I can assure you the recent thread content has provided suitable smirks in all the right places. And I'm not talking about midget porn.

Really, it seems like the non-Newcastle fan simply looked at the league tables without context. 12th sounds alright until you look further in to it and realise we spent the vast majority of the season in or around the relegation zone (ie. flirting with relegation) before winning 5 from our last 8 (from memory, could be slightly more/less, cba to check) to get out of it. And if finishing 1 point ahead of the usual cut off isn't classed as flirting with relegation then I don't know what is. We were lucky Wigan were so hopeless. 2 out of 4 seasons seems fairly regular to me.

No, but you implied he was there when we finished 5th, and that Pardew had nothing to work with (1 loanee comment). We had a team littered with Internationals back then. A front 3 of Ben Arfa, Ba and Cisse. Cabaye, Santon, Krul etc. He actually had a good amount of investment back then, especially compared to teams of a similar stature. His awful, negative, ineffective style of football that followed caused good players to lose form or simply leave. Or he simply ostracised people with talent.

Here's your much anticipated update anyway mate. 11 without a win, 4 points from 33. Good manager as you say though, ignore everything else cos he finished 5th and lost you a cup final once :dk: Liverpool at home next, he might brake that Palace record afterall.

Choose to dress up a midtable finish as a season-long relegation battle however you want but relegation isn't decided halfway through the season. If you criticise him for the run that precariously looked like you might be heading towards the door, then don't be all selective and ignore the winning runs that - overall - saw you get an average amount of points. Goes right back to my first (of the most recent) posts - he takes teams on great runs, and bad runs, and overall they even out to generally midtable finishes.

I didn't imply anything at all, you choose to extrapolate a quick list of the things I put he had to work with during his spell, and made an incorrect assumption. It's conducive to conversation if read posts properly.

Ah, the selectiveness, and ignoring the FA Cup final, 5th place finish and anything else positive he's dared to do too. Whatever eases the pain I guess. Where did I say he was a "good manager as you say though"? Ah that's right, I didn't - feel free to check. I actually used the words "decent" and "average", and whether you admit to it or not, Newcastle could really do with a manager of that standard right now.

I don't like sweet mince pies either, in fact I think they're disgusting. Does that mean I'm bitter about mince pies?
Yes. But I think you hate Pardew more than mince pies since you can't admit that your comments are horribly one-sided. Just admit that you hate the man and be done with it.

The squad isn't too bad I reckon. They'll breeze the 2nd tier if they keep most of them and beg Houghton to come back.

I've never hidden my dislike for Pardew, in fact I've always been quite vocal about it. The man is an embarrassment and a poor manager, and his record in the game undeniably backs that up.

12 without a win, 4 points from 36, £22mil invested in a side that comfortably finished 11th and 10th the last 2 seasons. We go again.

"Undeniably". :ffs:

Id wager those transfers and points figures sure look a lot healthier than Newcastle... especially if based across a whole season which most teams tend to play.

He even called himself shit in his post match interview mate. Are you labeling Alan a liar?

K. Guess my team being poorly managed invalidates my opinion then. That's how that works init :ffs:

Did Pardew say "I'm an embarrassment and a poor manager, and my record in the game undeniably backs that up"?

Whoosh... that wasn't the point made.

Not directly. He called the officials corrupt, which covers the embarrassment part. He said he makes moronic subs, which covers the poor manager part. His record in the game speaks for itself. Then he allegedly assaulted Geoff Shreeves. So yeah, I suppose he did essentially say that.

Leicester next. He's closing in on another record.

Fair enough on what he said - though I quite like a manager being honest about his own (and opinion of other) mistakes rather than putting absolutely everything at the door of the referee like many other managers. Doesn't exactly mean that he said his entire career (which I assume you meant "record in the game" to be, rather than the one actual game?) was an embarrassment though, which is clearly isn't.

Palace, a midtable team with midtable investment, hire a decent manager with a reputation of having teams in streaks of form, go through a seemingly/deliberately forgotten excellent start, follow with a terrible mid section, but almost certainly end up solidly midtable, which was the expectation.

Keep trying though. ;)

he's not been stubborn for the sake of being stubborn, unlike some. it's quite telling that the majority of arguments in his favour in this thread amount to "well, mclaren is shit too".

fair play skinner
