So, on the same day it's revelaed our Alan is seeing a sports psycologist to deal with his anger management and uncontrollable aggression, he makes the claim that he could do any of the top jobs better than the world class, award winning, trophy toting, proven managers currently holding those positions. I believe he also mentioned the likes of Pulis and Allardyce when making the claim (top kek).

So I ask you, does he have a valid argument here? Are English managers being unfairly overlooked for the top jobs, or is there some genuine reasoning behind hiring proven world class managers ahead of a the likes of Alan?

If you ignore the fact he was relegated with Charlton, took West Ham on their worst run for 70 years, lost 15 from 21 at Newcastle, set a new record for consecutive defeats with an aggregate score of 17-1, failed to score in almost 50% of his games in charge, never did anything in the cups, and had the worst derby record in history, then I believe he has a point and is clearly unfairly overlooked in favour of guys who are actually good at their job.

What say you, forum dwellers? Should we get a petition going and that?

Bigging himself up whilst he's doing a good job and says he won't jump ship. Yeah ok Alan.

On the subject of Pardew at Palace though, he's surprised me to be honest. I really didn't want him before we appointed him due to him being a bit meh everywhere he went after Reading. He probably was the best we could have gone for but I wanted someone a bit younger with a up to terms approach to the game, even if it means going abroad.

His in-game decisions at Newcastle were a bit slow and even the first XI selections weren't the sides most people would have picked either. His management style there seemed to stump any sort of flair they were capable of playing with. It's a complete contrast of his short time here though, his first team selection have been spot on and his sub and in-game tweaks have been faultless, he's won more points than any other manager from losing positions this season. His tactical side of the game ain't too bad either, we've won something silly like 6 out of 7 on the road since he's been here, for a side like Palace that's ridiculous. More importantly though, he's got the best out of our flair players, Bolasie has been at his best since his time here and hes got Zaha performing back to a level which we all knew he could, his disastrous time at United is a thing of the distant past now. Oh and he the only man that's put faith in Glenn Murray!!

Hopefully this isn't just an extended honeymoon period and we're able to replicate this years form next season and break the top half. Maybe being at a club he knows with no pressure on him is where he performs at his best.

Long live King Al as far as I'm concerned :)

Good timing, he can show us just how good he is against City and Pellegrini tonight. I hope he does.

Would love to see him replace Pellegrini. Koeman would be the better hire.

He's a complete twat and utterly full of himself.

However he's decent manager that is being helped slightly by his predecessor at Palace being Neil Warnock. Anyone half competent should be able improve upon him.

The Palace team really isn't a bad side with some pretty good midfielders.

I don't buy the whole English managers are overlooked thing. If you're good enough (Moyes and Rodgers, both British), then you will get a crack at the top jobs. Hughes got a crack at Man City and was found out. I look at the current top flight managers and I don't see any canny enough. The big problem with the likes of Allardyce, Bruce, Pardew et al is all of their managerial career has been in England so they've never picked up any European experience as a boss. Respect to Moyes for going out to Spain as he's adding a new string to his bow. More managers should look to go abroad and put their ego aside to go to a slightly lower club. But the lure of the Premier League is there and the names that I mentioned earlier will sit at a solid club and make all the claims in the world.

Insinuating that he's doing well because he's taken over Warnock is stupid. We're a relegation side, 70% of our starting eleven were regulars in our promotion season.

We also got bigger gates than you when we were in the Championship. Maybe he's on to something afterall...

We'll never get to find out because Mourinho is better than that. Pardew will get the most out of limited workhorses/journeymen and fuck all out of genuinely talented players. That's why the likes of Perch and Williamson featured so much for us while anyone with an ounce of creative ability was ostracised. Also why he'll rightly never be given a job at one of the top clubs. Imagine that numpty trying to tell Hazard or Sanchez they should be playing full back.

And he is getting the best out of Bolasie and Zaha at the minute G.B, whether that's by design or in spite of his efforts only time will tell. Maybe he has to try and shag one of their girlfriends before it goes tits up and he starts leaving them out.

Alan and Big Sam (I could manage Real Madrid you know) Allardyce are two peas in a rather mediocre pod aren't they.

Isn't getting the most out of limited journeyman something that he should be praised for? If he can do so well with those types of players, isn't it fair to even consider how well he could do with better players?

Can't see him ever being more than a mid table at best type of manager. Focuses too much at times on players that will run themselves into the ground rather than ones that might win the game for him. He does seem to have Zaha, Bolasie and Puncheon playing well at the moment but whether that continues will remain to be seen.

The players seem to be running themselves into the ground AND winning for him at the moment. If he get's them into the top ten he can't be too far away from a shout at manager of the year.

It's what limited managers do, I suppose. Get the players who know they're lucky to be there on your side and working for you, they're not going to question anything.

He's had better players than Perch and Williamson. He usually misused them and stifled any sort of creativity they had, or just pissed them off with his negative approach.

And he is getting the best out of Bolasie and Zaha at the minute G.B, whether that's by design or in spite of his efforts only time will tell. Maybe he has to try and shag one of their girlfriends before it goes tits up and he starts leaving them out.

He is atm, yeah. He got the best out of certain attacking players with us at times too, before reverting to type and approaching games negatively. If Palace aren't comfortable early on next season I suspect we'll see similar. Wingers playing further and further back, isolated forwards, narrow as fuck systems, no supply etc. That's just how he is. It was nearly always a case of countering the oppositions strengths rather than attempting to play to our own. He'll give players like Bolasie and Zaha all the encouragement in the world and talk them up when they're in good form but as soon as their style of play costs the team they'll disappear.

Genuine question, I rate both Big Sam and Pardew and both were chased out of Newcastle by some sections of the fans. Is there really a demand for attacking / entertaining football up there? Or is it more a case of the media putting two and two together and making five?

I wouldn't say attacking football is a necessity, but trying to win is. When managers begin games with the idea of not losing rather than trying to win and that happens every week then they aren't going to be popular

Pretty much as Smally said. We don't expect to win things or go and batter teams every week but we want an identity, we want a team playing with some enthusiasm and consistency. We don't want exciting, attacking players chucked out of the club for... well, for being exciting, attacking players. We want to see some football, not anti-football every other week.

Allardyce is a decent manager but sadly it now seems accepted he was harshly treated here. If you look at his time in charge of us he fucked it up massively with crap signings, crap football and crap results. Ashley always planned to chuck him but he deserved it anyway for the poor job he did. He left us with shite like Geremi, Rozehnal, Cacapa, Alan Smith and Abdoulaye Faye on daft wages. Pardew stayed far too long. Results aside, he was generally disliked by the supporters. Probably because he constantly lied to them, insulted them and carried himself like a grade A wanker.

Highlighting Pardew's ending at West Ham ignores the Tevez/Mascherano mess thrust upon him - he wasn't blameless but he also got us promoted on a budget, playing good football, promoted youth and made predominantly young English signings with most of the team then adapting to Prem football... and got is to a whisker of an FA Cup win.

As for the thread question we'll never know. Mourinho might be bloody useless in a relegation dogfight with lower standard players, Allardyce might be arrogant but could well solidify Man City and turn them around. Just because a manager wins titles doesn't necessarily he'd ace it when finances and circumstances are vastly different.

Are jobs blocked for managers lower down the league? Probably, just because Man Utd appointed Moyes because of a probable big boost from Ferguson is the exception rather than the rule - there's no chance Chelsea or Man City would appoint someone below. Liverpool only appointed Rodgers when they'd slipped down, for Arsenal we don't know.

I'm not insinuating that at all. It's much more a dig at Warnock than anything else.

I do however disagree that you are a relegation side and whatever the make up of your team starting 11, they've improved. Do you really think your starting 11 is no better than the bottom 6 teams? Bolasie, Zara, Puncheon, MacArthur is a better midfield than any of those can put out.
