Fingers crossed that those involved are OK. I'm going down there next week and although I hope that all the rides are open, it really doesn't matter at the moment does it?

The reports suggest that although the injuries are serious, there are no life threatening injuries which is good news.

No it doesn't matter. A remarkably self-centred remark.

The terrible irony of the ride being called "The Smiler" has been lodged in the pit of my stomach in the form of a heavy, rough-hewn brick since I first saw the headline a few short hours ago, because there are precious few "smiles" in the rollercoaster community right now.

Truly a dark day.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved.

Yes I read it. The implications were quite clear. No queues for you!

God forbid your mother should receive that awful phone call, informing her that you have "died hard" in a metal "armchair" flung into the back of another upside down and in excess of 100kmph. But maybe then you wouldn't be so insouciant.

Where did I mention queues? I said that I hope all rides are open! Doesn't everyone? I made it quite clear that it's irrelevant and that my thoughts are completely with those involved.

Stop looking for something that isn't there

Edit: I'm actually staggered that the first thing you took from my post was someone not having to queue for rides.

Ignore him.

I took someone to alton towers for work last year and I went on the ride with him several times last year. I might request some extra danger money if he wants to go this year.

Yes, ignore me, like you ignore those broken bodies lying in a Staffordshire hospital, and proffer your trite little anecdotes brimfull of the pronouns "I" and "me" instead.

Are you on a wind up?

He offered his wishes to those involved, and said he was going next week? I know if I were spending that sort of money to go to Alton Towers, I'd expect the rides to be open, but of course, you have to allow for all the routine safety checks and such for personal safety after today, which I completely respect and understand.

On the topic of selfish, you taking the attention away from those involved in this thread and turning it into a dig at the OP is the only bit of spite and selfishness I see in this thread.

Cut it out.

You've quite clearly ignored the main point of my post and twisted something I've said in a rather ridiculous way. Anyone with an ounce of sense can read my post and realise exactly what I meant. I'm not sure why you can't?

You are either on a wind up, therefore it is you being very inconsiderate to the injured individuals, or completely stupid not to consider the manor the post was wrote in as I understood its innocent nature from the start.

Anyway, my son has a Merlin pass so goes to Alton Towers often. He regularly comes home saying the Smiler was closed all day for "maintenance". The ride has been plaqued with problems from day one, wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't re-open for a very long time, if ever.

Are you speaking in your official capacity as a 1FF moderator now, or personally, as JJH alone? Because I have much to say in response to this nasty little missive from cloud cuckoo land, but not if it's going to earn me a splash landing in the gloomy wood of censorial rebuke.

Once again, thoughts to all those whose lives were altered forever by today's grotesque tragedy.

Agree with you fully. fwiw, it is crystal clear that you were stressing the fact that everything else becomes unimportant and irrelevant when people have been injured.

The fact you're overtaking a thread of such tragedy whereby those involved in the incident should be the point of discussion, rather than petty arguments and throwing accusations of selfish acts at the OP. You are clearly wrongly interpreting the manor in which the post was written, or you are on a wind-up, which of course is very disrespectful.

No need to take this any further - but I suggest you stop the act and let the spotlight be on those unfortunate enough to be in the event of this today.

Wow. Absolutely numb. Thoughts very much with those with serious injuries. RIP.

Puts this Blatter stuff into perspective.

The video is somehow a very fitting tribute at this desperately sad time.

Video footage is an excellent way to keep the spotlight on those unfortunate enough to be in the event of this today.

Jesus, terrifying.

I've got a vague recollection of the ride it replaced being constantly plagued with problems, scary stuff.
