Yep. Spurs getting a first Premier League title before them would be damning. Leicester doing it should be their cue to throw in the towel. Still a big club in the city of Liverpool, but not really anywhere else.

For me a big club is about 60% current situation, 30% fan base and about 10% history.
Liverpool known for is a big club for its fan base but its current situation puts them on the same level as West Ham and Stoke. Just mid table drifters...
And obviously Liverpool's history speaks for itself haha.

stoke is a good comparison. both have rather illustrious history although both team's peaks were long before most fans were born. both solid, mid-table sides now and both have good fan reputations, liverpool having a fair few although quite quiet fans whilst stoke, although they have fewer fans, have a reputation for loud, passionate support

good post

What happens next:

Saltire and/or G Dragon comes in, comments that the thread is clearly a wind up and then goes on to post a series of comments designed to disprove the original claim. These posts will be followed by smileys to counteract their displays of annoyance.

StevenCC/Christian Slater bowls in, adds to original argument. They're might be facts but likely to be a subtle dig at the club.

Jonnytodd enters the game. Adds to original argument with something crass like "200m spent and they're still fucking shit". Might also refer to Klopp as "Flopp". Jonnytodd will feature intermittently through out the next couple of pages. Klopp wishing he never came to the club and Liverpool fans never going to games will both feature in his diatribe.

Saltire answers back with several smiley and a meme.

G Dragon comes back with something a bit more aggressive and a dig at Everton. Might also be a dig at Utd as well.

Steven CC/Slater sense blood. They further wind up the Liverpool 2 but also point out how shit Utd are this season.

Saltire is going for a dram and G Dragon has another dig at Utd.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

You're only saying that cause they beat your lot last night. Don't worry, they could've beat Man United 10-0 yesterday, Man United are still a much bigger club than Liverpool.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Yes, they are still a big club. They're not the awe inspiring superclub that the fans and a lot of the media would have you believe. They were, for about 30 years, though.

Liverpool's period of real dominance was between 1963-4 winning the League, and the 1991-92 FA Cup but before before that they'd won five league titles, and neither of the domestic cups. Less than Everton, Sunderland, Villa and Arsenal at that point. They'd just ended a decade in the Second Division and had been in real decline. Wolves and Huddersfield had enjoyed more recent success.

They've won more than most clubs since then, but not the world dominating number of pots that you'd expect from one of the planet's truly huge and powerful football clubs over a 30 year period.

In summary.. They were once one of the biggest, best and most successful clubs on the planet, for a good few years, but that was almost as long ago as the entirety glory years lasted and before that, they were nothing much special.

Being told you're not a big club by a City fan, that's going to boil some piss.

Of course Liverpool are a big club. What a chuffing stupid question.

There can be more than one big club, and Liverpool are not the biggest, nor the smallest of the big clubs.

Debate done.

is your caps lock key broken dr mantis t?

Liverpool are still a big club, and will always be. They are this country's equivalent to, say, Milan or Inter. Juve may be winning everything right now, but you can't say those two sides aren't big Italian/European clubs. Rangers may be playing in the Scottish first div currently, but they're still one of Scotland's biggest sides.

Last night's excellent win over the biggest club in the world(absolutely not true at all) only serves to illustrate my point.

Their summer acquisitions will tell you if they're still big or not.

Don't forget the unglamorous football both sides are noted for, though Stoke have improved a lot in that regard.

I hope johnnytodd shows up here.

On a more serious note, I'm going to completely disregard their history now and judge them as they are.
FA Cup: Out in the fourth round against West Ham, which wasn't the greatest upset of all time. But still, Shrewsbury got further than them. 14/25
League Cup:
Out on penalties in the final. Can't really complain about that. 24/25
Europe:
Currently in the Europa League with probability of going though to the semifinals. 20/25
Premier League:
7th with a small chance of dropping to mid-table. 17/25

TOTAL: 75/100

The 2nd biggest club in this country by an absolute distance with obviously only man u above them and arsenal behind them. No one else is even half as big of a club in my opinion. Worldwide id put real madrid, barcelona, man u above them and bayern munich on a par.

Yep ac also on a pretty level playing field with them too. Im basing it on the fact they have more fans than any other club worldwide other than real and man utd, the fact that theyve won more trophies than any other club in this country, the fact they have won 5 european cups a feat which very very few have achieved and also by far our countrys most successful european team, the fact they have won way more league titles than anyone in this country except man utd. Just because theyve not won the league for 25 years you dont suddenly not be a big club anymore. So there you go if thats not enough reasons i dont know what is
