Wales having different rules to England reminds me of earlier in the pandemic when the Gov tried to instate different regional restrictions, leading to the ridiculous position of people just driving 10 minutes down the road to go have a drink. It's obviously not going to work. It just feels like the devolved regions doing a bit of a power play. Or perhaps anticipating restrictions in England and trying to get ahead of them so it looks like they're not just copying England's homework. They're a bit locked in now though, in order to save face.

Was he re-elected or were Labour just re-elected?

Genuine question because I don't know.
Labour were re-elected because it was seen as them or the Tories. Many don't understand that there are actually other parties in the country. Also earlier in the pandemic, Drakeford was seen to be doing a decent enough job in Wales which kept up his confidence before the election. Now the election has been and gone, they've gone power mad.

It definitely feels like this now.. a bit of a power trip to be seen to be doing something different/more than England, with Drakeford also firing off shots at Boris in his press conferences.
And on the other hand if England announces restrictions we seem to soon follow to not seem daft or missing a trick (e.g. soon following up with the 7 day isolation instead of 10 days)

Something that's in our favour is that Flintshire County Council were fully aware and had no complaints to us playing two games in December 2020 with restricted crowds whilst Wales was in full lockdown and England was in the tier system.

The club can't win. It's clearly somebody on a power trip trying to stir up trouble. Thankfully 3 of our next 4 games are away.

Drakeford is an embarrassment, lol.

Saw him at his conference having more sly digs at England. Fed up hearing clowns say England is doing /nothing/. The normalisation of COVID restrictions has rotted brains.

It's a shame as I think Chester are clearly in the right, but as you say some idiot in the Welsh government has gone looking for trouble.

Not much you can really do as a small club now that the govt. appear to have thrown their weight behind it.

Assuming Wrexham are able to receive grants from the Welsh government for the lack of fans - I bet that option won't be available for you as suddenly it will revert to where money is paid to rather than a meaningless border line in the UK.

At this moment it looks like we are located in no mans land where neither jurisdiction where the land straddles can agree on what law should apply. The Welsh want to close us down but give us no funding at the same time.

The stadium can only be accessed from England on what is essentially annexed land. The border runs through the main stand with the entrance and admin block in England. The address of the stadium is English. Because of this we are dealt with by the English FA, our stadium safety certificate is issued by an English Council and Cheshire Police have authority on the land with a local agreement with North Wales Police.

Thankfully our MP has got involved and Mark Ives (National League Chairman) has backed us as well. I know some people will have a good laugh about it but hopefully common sense prevails. At least the Welsh Government can't keep restrictions up for much longer as they can't afford it and three of our next four games are away from home anyway.

It’s stupid. I know you get this stuff in politics, but it’s an English club where 99% of people attending will be doing so from England. It should obviously be under the English rules.

Well it's also clearly sat inside the boundaries of a Welsh County (the bits where everyone will be sitting anyway). You've had places where the England/Wales Border run down a road and so some places on one side of the road are shut and others over the road are open.

The whole country should be following the same rules, given this is a National issue and all.

If you live in any part of Wales, you have to go to England to get to the stadium.

It's a farce it's even been brought up.

how is that relevant?

The stadium is in Wales. The farce comes from the fact that this wasn't sorted in 2020.

Who gets paid to police (enforce the law) their games?

Cheshire Police (England)?

No case to answer at all.

Through a local agreement.

I'm not saying it's the right decision, but unless there's some other sort of dispensation or similar arrangement sorted between the club, Flintshire, Cheshire and Welsh Government or whoever, the stadium is in Flintshire and therefore Welsh rules apply. They can wail 'Wah we're English' all they want but they apparently accepted compensation money from FCC last year so it shouldn't have come as a surprise.

Almost certain that was for the bar which is run under a welsh license and still is as we are table service only at the moment, any money we have received for the loss of revenue due to games without fans has come from England not Wales.

Disciplinary for all the welsh teams playing in the english leagues is done through the Welsh Fa but Chester’s has always gone through the English Fa, wonder why that is.

I will say that Barnet Hospital’s A & E stats have been terrible for the past year, well before the current wave of Covid..

That's not correct. The small grant from Flintshire was to aid making the stadium covid secure. Afterwards we played two games last December with crowds in whilst Wales was in full lockdown with Flintshire fully aware. It was in no way compensation.

My point on this would be “ why are we suddenly Welsh” we have been at this ground for 30 years its been common knowledge that the pitch is in wales but no one in the Welsh government has bothered or cared about that, but because now the Welsh clubs have had to drastically reduce attendances for, which they have received compensation we are suddenly welsh.

Yeah maybe that needs to be looked at. Turns out you've been a Welsh Club since 1991.

A bit of common sense is required to resolve this so I won’t be holding my breath , we both know where the shit stirring which has caused this has come from.

Is it right that Chester accepted a grant from Flintshire County Council? I've been told this is the case, but could be bullshit. Hard to sympathise with you if so.

Edit: just read above. You can't have it both ways chaps.
