Didn’t read the article but our council own the ground and I’m glad they do as if you’ve got a rogue owner like us you will at least keep that asset when the shit hits the fan.

The downside is obviously it won’t get much redevelopment to push on as a club (and might put off potential investors) but I reckon in these times it’s better to have that fail safe than not.

The overwhelming reaction from our fans is that this is a bad move and that the council will look to sell the land for housing. They are well behind on their new housing quota and the stadium and surrounding land are on the edge of what has turned into a sprawling village from being just a housing estate 30 years ago.

I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of this, as most of us don't, and Like a Glove has summed it up very succinctly. The piece that does really concern me though is that the sale would mean the removal of the ACV. Under those terms our supporters trust had the right to bid and 6 months to make a formal offer. Our Chairman has said the club cannot wait six months to complete a deal with South Somerset district Council given our current financial position. Having said that he's spoken to the Chairman of the supporters trust who seems to be ok with it.

We've always had big problems with redevelopment, in fact there hasn't been any at all since the ground was built 30 years ago, largely because there are restrictive covenants in place on the land. Apparently this sale to the council would remove them but it would be a bit late by then as the club will never be able to buy the stadium back (IMHO).

I to don't know the finer details of all this but the removal of all covenants on the land bit would be a big red flag for me.

An owner, with no connection to the club or community, talking about ground redevelopment, or fund raising off of it is alarming and I say that as a fan of a club who had one of these owners a couple of years ago, last seen running out of town with his pockets full.

Absolutely agree.

Another plot turn...

CV Leisure Ltd, which owns 92% of the shares in Yeovil Town FC, threatened with compulsory strike-off. Late filing their accounts by the look of it. Poor governance more than a debt issue, but still crap.

Just read through article. Are SSDC trustworthy, and genuinely community oriented?

The ground is the paramount concern; does Yeovil Town FC have freehold?

SSDC are probably as trustworthy as any district council. The potential deal will see South Somerset District Council buy Huish Park freehold land including stadium as well as the long leasehold parcel of land to the East of the site. Subsequently, the leasehold land will become freehold and the whole site will be leased back to YTFC, with all charges and restrictive covenants being removed. The club will also have an option to buy back the entire site.

The government should surely have the bollocks to ban gatherings then, same as the rest of the year, the virus doesn’t celebrate Christmas. The attitude seems to be ‘do what you like, but don’t blame us when your granny dies’.
Im convinced Boris is just allowing this to go a head because he doesn't want to be known as the leader who cancelled Christmas.

Sadly hes going to regret this when we are back to square one in January.

I dunno about you lot but I couldn't give a fuck about Christmas.

This has been a shitty year for myself and others who've had it much much worse.

I'll be getting mortal at Christmas with me mam and brother and that's it, no others allowed. To toast the back of 2020 and the shit it's brought us all.

Raymondo316 you are right, it's all his populist tactic but if you have half a brain you can see through it. Prepare for a miserable Jan (and Feb, March, April, and so on) as we will not have the vaccine rolled out by then due to the sheer incompetence that just reaches ever lower levels of depravity... but hey at least we were able to listen to the unedited version of The Pogues with 27 other households for 5 days eh? Tory wankers.

Appears to be a good compromise, the Council will own the ground , and the valuable adjoining site, thus keeping any grubby speculators (CV Leisure?) at bay. Also, if the club should go tits-up, they don't lose taxpayers money, assuming they've got funds to buy it in the first place. Good luck.

Who is in Tier 2 and can have a few fans in then? I can’t be arsed to work it out myself. For the record we (Notts) are Tier 3 and can’t...

Torquay are tier 2, so up to 2,000 fans, I believe.

York is most northern team in tier 2,You couldn’t write this shit but we have two 8500 capacity stadiums and neither got a licence yet.
New ground has failed safety certificate again due to drainage delayed till Jan 21 three years late.
Bootham Crescent safety certificate lapsed due to moving ground they are desperately trying to get a new one.The joys of 2020 and York Council.

Very wary of these developments. I'm not convinced it's in the best interests of the club.

Only scan read it but we've done something similar before - twice I think (early 80's and late 90's).

Sold it to raise funds and both occasions we bought it back cheaper than we sold it for.

Wealdstone’s COVID capacity is around 870. We tried to get the game v Torquay pushed back a day to get fans in, but they refused. With Barnet unlikely or unable to let away fans in, first game back in looks like Weymouth.

Should have behaved yourselves when instructed by the government.
I'm in Tier 2 in Cheshire.

Stockport itself isn't that high, just gets lumped in with Greater Manchester.

There's nothing to go out and do in places like Aldershot anyway is there? Nobody will notice the difference.

Our game against Notts next Wednesday has been stopped from having fans by the league and a host of other bodies, club we’re all set. Shambles.

You're lucky you'll have any fans at any games at all. Cases are rising in London more than anywhere. If it wasn't the capital, you'd be in tier 3 no doubt about it.

Have I read it right that away fans cannot travel to matches in Tier 2?
I certainly will be.

I'm NE Derbyshire and the numbers are low here, much lower than when we entered lockdown.

Seeing places that are higher rates than us in Tier 2 is gutting.

You are right about the Capital. London should have been in tier 3, but because it is full of wealthy people being able to spend their money everywhere, the government overlooks it. The Royal Albert Hall has already sold out(3,500) 2 events in Dec, and all the West End Theatres are re-opening for Pantomime season. It will be interesting to see what happens at Barnet's next game(v Wealdstone). No season tickets have been issued yet, and if they do it by post, virtually all Wealdstone fans have a HA postcode, whereas Barnet fans are mostly EN(Barnet area). I wouldn't be surprised if the League insist on it being BCD.

Do you think they'd do a postcode thing for your next game the following Tuesday, can't remember who it's against, not important right now, just asking for a friend, he's a neutral
