There was a thread on the Voldermort board but I haven't seen a similar one here.

Anyway, tonight is the Berks and Bucks Cup Semi Finals.
Maidenhead United vs Chesham United
Marlow vs Aylesbury

I'm planning on being at York Road for the Maidenhead game, they're probably favourites for the cup being the only Conference South in the competition.

We're home to Hayes and Yeading tonight in the Quarter Finals of the Middlesex Senior Cup. I guess we're favourites too as the highest ranked team left in the competition.

Amusing how Hayes & Yeading play in a different County Cup to Maidenhead United, despite playing at the same ground. (Though there are obvious reasons for that!)

A few of my friends go to watch Wealdstone. I like it down there.

Will be interesting to see how many games are on this evening as it's a bit chilly...

a few 3rd round results added to the Surrey Senior Cup tree... also put in the QF ties.

My god it's looking more tin pot then usual! When the Metropolitan Police FC are the highest ranked team left in a competition that's when you know it's been a messed up season.

We beat Stourbridge 2-0 tonight in the Worcestershire senior cup. Lee Hughes scoring on his second debut. And the second goal has gone to either Wright (Who I don't think it was)/Verma/Knowles and it could have been either of those two

Worst part was Gittings limping off in the second half

Corinthian Casuals beat our youngsters on penalties in the London Senior cup. So much for us defending our title.

As some wag pointed out on our guestbook, our only chance of silverware now is winning the League two play-off final. Yeah, right!

How comes you didn't enter the Surrey Senior Cup with the Womblets this year?

We did. We were due to play Chipstead but pulled out due to our U21s/U18s fixture congestion.

How much do fans generally care about county cups? The consensus in Cheshire is that Conf and even Conf North teams don't give a shit and it's a nuisance mid-season. If it was played as a preseason competition like in Lincs everyone would view it much more favourably.

We treat the Surrey Cup (& London Cup when we enter it) as a chance for the youngsters & fringe players to get game time. Our match squads get stronger as we progress through & depending on the level of opposition.

We take them semi-seriously as it presents one of our best chances of silverware... plus in the Surrey version you get to visit loads of nice county club grounds (& Sutton) so it's worth going through a few rounds just for that, not so much the London cup though - most teams from that play in shit holes.

We've tended to take the Essex Senior relatively seriously given we won it a couple of years back though the Ryman Cup is normally a competition purely for fringe players. Having said that we've put out strong sides in both competitions this season purely because our league form has been so poor and these competitions give more opportunity for the players to gel and work on their form.

Definitely helping as defensively we've improved significantly although goals still present a problem.

We're out the Ryman Cup but play the semi of the Essex Senior next Tuesday (24th) .. home to Concord Rangers.

We used to when we re-formed, probably up until the early 00's - We used to take 2,500+ to the finals and once pulled in a crowd of 6,500 for a Hampshire Cup tie against Farnborough. Since we turned full time it's been a competition for the youth/reserves... To my knowledge we haven't come close to winning it for a while.

I never really know whats going on in the Essex Senior, Southend have never taken it seriously in my life time, nor Col U, I take it Dag & Red are the same since becoming a league team. We seem to flop from a youth team to a team of stiffs, or outcasts. Or just not bothering to enter a team at all.

One of the most embarassing performances of the last 15 years came when said stiffs and outcasts got thumped by a Chelmsford reserve side. There were literally players not even running during the game. Barrington Belgrave being one the the worst offenders never played for Southend again due to his 'preformance' that day. This season a mix of youth and reserve lost 4-2 to Harlow Town, inspiring.
Even some of the non-league teams don't seem that interested, I really wonder sometimes as to why it's even still going.

We've won the Cumberland cup 6 times in the last 13 years, although we don't take it seriously and I don't think we ever field senior players unless they're returning from injury or are a way out on the fringes of the squad although a number of our current senior squad played in it during their academy years and Paddy Madden scored in the final a few years back. We won one final a couple of years back 8-1 despite fielding no players over the age of 18. There's just such little competition, quite telling really that the second most successful team in the cup's history are Gretna.

We probably should given our current status as a step 5 team. But we don't. The worst thing is the teams we play, they do care, way too much.

Last season the (then) Wellingborough Town manager Craig Adams, made a massive fuss about how they beat us in two of these meaningless cup competitions (the second being the UCL Knock Out Cup, that glorious institution...). This was all in the build up to the Christmas/New Year Dog and Duck Derby (tm)*. We thumped them in those games (well one got called off, but we also won the replayed fixture).

*Just an FYI for anyone still unaware, this isn't a disparaging nickname, it's because we ground share. The ground really is called the Dog and Duck.

The West Riding Challenge Cup apparently takes a fee from the league teams that avoid playing in it, making Town the biggest club in the competition. When we won it the other year at Valley Parade it felt like we did just for the shiggles. 120 minutes of friendly-level bilge before Gareth Seddon let off a screamer for the sake of it. A trestle table was wheeled out, the team posed with the trophy and a cardboard "West Riding FA" sign for literally no more than a second, and we all went home. Guiseley parade it more than that (as it's them most often winning it), whereas I'm sure it'd be a bigger thing still to the likes of Ossett Town or Barnoldswick (NB: the WRCC goes by pre-'70s West Riding boundaries). It's still very much a thing on the side for all those teams as far as I'm aware, all fans I knew in the glue league at the time really not rating their county cups even if they got a Tranmere youth team in the semi-finals or whatever. It's worth appreciating that most of the players in the WRCC are amateur/£50 a week and in the NLP1N alone you're entered into the county cup, the FA Cup, the FA Trophy, the League Challenge Cup and the League Presidents Cup. You're putting a game practically every available Saturday/Tuesday together with a full-time job. I think at that level a team's more likely to play Saturday/Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday in a given week than Saturday/Saturday. It's a daft malarkey really.

We used to take it seriously, but last time we did that and fielded practically a full first team, we got embarrassed by Not Police in the LSC final. Now we have a thriving academy and the county cups (London and Surrey) are perfect for our youngsters and first teamers returning from injury.

We got our revenge on Not Police last season in the LSC final with nearly all youngsters, a few of whom are now breaking into the first team squad.

Our final has been switched to October the past few seasons. It's still a massive deal though, because it gives Lincoln fans a legitimate opportunity to crtiticise our fans for going to away matches which they can't usually justify doing with league games. :tomf:

I think this sums up our attitude towards it. Our 45 year old assistant manager and Aspin (49) both played for us...

Some interesting Surrey Cup results:

The last 3rd Round tie saw the conquerors of the mighty K's, Badshot Lea, scalp another (less) higher ranked team in Corinthian-Casuals 4:1 in Tolworth!

A couple of QF ties already played...

Ashford Town (Middx) 3:1 Westfield
Not Police 2:1 Tooting & Mitcham

If Not Police win this & do a tinpot double by getting promoted to the Conference South I'm giving up on life.

Just a question - is Not Police short for say, Nottingham Police, or is it just a normal team who class themselves as anti-establishment?

Cheers.

Not Police is the universally used name by local non league fans for the MetropolItan Police football team due to the majority of them not actually being police men
