If nothing else, Cowley will build camaraderie in the dressing room, he'll get that Lincoln side organised, fit and hard to break down. Recruitment will be interesting but from the outside, he's so meticulous in his planning that he'll have an idea on who he can get on a much improved budget from being at Braintree.

However much we have under achieved since being down here, I cannot see how it could be described as a sidestep from Braintree to Lincoln?!
Just because you're an ex-league team doesn't mean you have 'underachieved' each season. Face it, you're nothing more than an average mid-table team.

Got the best out of those who stayed but brought a few players over from Concord (Matt Fry, Alex Woodyard) whilst poaching the best from other clubs in Essex (Michael Cheek).

Rod Stringer actually put most of this Braintree squad together, Devonshire improved on it and now Cowley has done too.

We have underachieved and been an average mid-table team. We aren't a mid table side in terms of size, support, budget, expectation and potential and on an equal footing or side-stepping equality to Braintree though.

It could either prove to be a brilliant gamble on someone who continues to succeed as a manager, even at a bigger club, or it could turn out to be like Wilkin at Wrexham.
I think it's a decent gamble for Lincoln to take and is better than going for the recycled, had a good season once in this league, type of manager.

I'm hoping we get involved here as a few rumours have suggested. That said, the bloke would be fucking nuts to consider coming here right now.

If Cowley does go (hope he doesn't) I wonder if Ady Pennock or Jamie Day might be in the running for the job there. Closer to home for both, and Day in particular has proven himself decent on a small budget.

I tell you what Sparrow, I will have a challenge bet with you now that Lincoln will finish higher that Woking next season, shall we say £10?

That's before our new manager is even announced.

I'm alright, thanks. Woking are going down next season and it's a silly bet anyway given that Lincoln's budget is twice the size of ours, if not more now you're getting bankrolled.

I think it would be a good appointment for Lincoln and the pressure wouldn't be as great on Danny Cowley, because of the Imps recent disappointing history. Would have liked him at Rovers.

It's an interesting one. It is a bit of a gamble, but what appointment isn't. As Master D says, it's just a carbon copy of the Wilkin appointment - manager that works well on a budget that likes playing niggly negative football.

And in the same way as Wilkin, because of it, if results don't happen - it will turn sour very very quickly.

Depending on who you believe our playing budget will be between 500-700k and our new investor's cash around 100k of it will be going on the new management teams wages.
Can't believe the poor bloke is being written off before he's even started IF he agrees to come!!!

The budget will be very close to £700K for those who are wondering.

Hmmm, not sure.

If it was, say, £550k this season and CN's putting £100k into the budget for the next 5 years that gets us to £650k before we even think about paying for a management team. This season there was Preece (minimal wage because his main income was media work), Brown and Moyses (free).

I suspect our new management, whether it's 2 or 3 people, will cost more than those three.

If you could all leave off and leave Danny at Braintree for another year, allowing us to swoop in and take him across Essex next summer, that would be great.

Different kettle of fish when put in charge of a proper club, a proper full time club with 3000-4000 supporters on your case who demand success.
Or 2,000 kindly requesting a top half of the table finish.

That shouldn't have made me chuckle, but...

I was going to put something similar but I knew some other bright spark would chip in sooner or later! Think we are easily capable of getting 3-4K on a regular basis if we have a better season. Hopefully with the pretty certain Cowley appointments, fans will back the board in terms of ST and match day sales. I haven't heard many Imps that would be disappointed with them.

It'd be a bit of an own goal if it doesn't happen given that we arranged a fans forum at 3 days notice for this Friday and right at the end of a season when we've never had one at this stage before!

I would've really liked to have gone to that actually, especially with me moving back to Lincoln soon (I will be able to be more in touch with certain things), but unfortunately I've arranged a weekend on the piss in London beforehand.

Then again, this Board has never scored an own goal before, has it....I don't take anything as certain when Dorrian is in charge.

It'd be the biggest one ever because Clive's gone back to South Africa and has taken Kevin Cooke with him!

It appears this will be confirmed tomorrow then.

I think it will be a very good appointment - he's easily the best candidate out of the few options we had anyway. He won't be under a great deal of pressure here, it's not like we're the most demanding of supporters. We've gone ten years without a top half finish and yet there's hardly a murmur of discontent. If he finished, say 8th, in his first season but were in contention for the play-offs, I think most fans would be pretty happy with that - that's how bad it's got here. Whereas if he somehow got us into the play-offs themselves, he'd be the best manager we've had since Keith Alexander.

Ambitious managerial appointment, a bit of cash to splash around. Are Lincoln actually going to offer a credible promotion challenge next season? :eyes:

End times.

From the Essex Chronicle -

The Chronicle understands the Cowleys have been offered a two-year deal and a big budget to work with, thanks to the club's South African-based investor Clive Nates, as the Imps aim to make a return to the Football League.

The Cowleys might not be the only ones swapping the Avanti Stadium for Sincil Bank with defender Sam Habergham and midfielder Alex Woodyard rumoured to be following the management team.

Cowley was my first choice, so I'm quite chuffed with this. I just didn't think we'd be able to prise him away from down south.

Win ratio over his 9 years of management is 52% with a points per game of around 1.8. Add an average of 18 clean sheets a season in and doesn't look too shabby. League only, cup and PO's not included.

He's steadily taken steps up the leagues as well so him and his methods don't seem a flash in the pan.

One of our posters on Vital Lincoln did profiles of various people over the last few weeks and Cowley's is here if anyone fancies a read - http://www.lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=442581
