They're meeting the players one-on-one (or one-on-two as it'll be!) on Monday, so I doubt they'll be a list until middle of next week at the earliest. No rush really because none out of contract you'd be desperate to keep.

I've not no idea what Braintree's style of play was, tbh.

Don't give away ludicrous penalties and check that your goalie hasn't had a brain injury before the match?
He didn't say that much on it, just a comment that if you cut off the supply to Disley and make them go through Nolan, he takes one touch too many, slows the attack down and passes sideways and back (I think he said the latter?) and that extra second or two gives you time to set-up properly.

Now it’s all been confirmed, I can’t end up with egg on my face, so…

Cowley’s always been first choice and before we’d even made a move after Moyses decision to step down, the Club were made aware that he’d be interested in the job (I can't tell you whether he applied, but a few have mentioned he did).

For all intents and purposes, this was all wrapped up prior to the final game of the season a couple of weeks ago. It’s just been a waiting game while Braintree went through the PO’s. Cowley wanted a week or so, whenever that would be, just to tie a few loose ends up at Braintree i.e. talk to players, staff etc and not be seen to be jumping ship a day after the PO’s had finished or something. He did similar when when moving from Concord to Braintree and talks very well of everything down there. He wanted to leave on good terms.

Cowley’s PE job has been advertised for a while now, it just took people a while to notice. It’s not been a case of everything sorted in 48 hours since news broke on Tuesday. We started looking for a house for them about 3 weeks ago.

Chairman Bob Dorrian purposefully went in hard on the “very, very interested in Heath” comments on TV to divert attention away from Cowley, which worked because people were still adamant on Monday that we’d end up with Heath. Heath, for what it’s worth, was desperate for the job. The Club weren’t going to allow the media to release Cowley’s name, as they did on Tuesday, if it wasn’t done and despite the Braintree Chairman thinking we were jumping the gun up here.

No-one else was ever seriously in for him either. Both parties have just been playing a game for the last week to pass time and make it sound more elaborate and manic than it was. It’s been relatively plain sailing from beginning to end. The only thing that would cast a doubt over it was cold feet on their part.

That doesn't sound like the Jon Nolan I have been watching this season, running at defences making things happen turning in MOM performances.

But Nolan completely ran the game? If that was the plan then I'm baffled.

If they dont like players who take too many touches our captain will be shitting himself!!!
Nolan meh... more his fault than Gowling's that the penalty was given away in the first leg.
Game too far for Braintree imho and losing a player to a red card sealed it.

It won't prove anything. No-one said Nolan was a bad player.

He wasn't talking about any particular game. He said he just felt Nolan was slower on the ball than Disley and forcing it through the former meant you'd have a better chance of getting back into position without the ball. He wasn't derogatory towards him or anything.

Brilliant appointment I think.

I've not seen too much of Braintree, but they seem to be hard working, play some decent football and move it quickly. Unfortunately, I feel there's only so far you can take a PT team with that sort of intensity, the play-off semis showed that when they'd played twice in a few days, hot day and down to 10 men.

Cowley certainly has the attitude needed to succeed at this level, I'd like to think Lincoln will challenge next year if Daggers don't hit the ground running a la Cheltenham. That is of course assuming Grimsby go up tomorrow :2thumb:

Hopefully. It would prove many Lincoln fan's opinions wrong when we signed him.

Agree with the other Imps, his attitude absolutely stinks but there is nothing wrong with his ability. Our ex goal keeping coach David Preece said that Nolan could have the world at his feet ability wise, I always rated him as a player at Lincoln but he did have a Billy big bollocks attitude. Why didn't he stay at Wrexham?

That's all very interesting Luke, thanks.

Had injury problems and it was when Mills decided he wanted to change his style of football. Got rid of talented players and brought in cloggers to replace them.

Not really, I for one said he'd be a good signing for you guys. He's brilliant when things are going well, but once your form goes south he's the first to give in. It'll be a different story if you're in L2 next season and you're not winning most of your games like you do in the Conference.

I didn't actually mean the Lincoln lot on this forum, I meant the guys on Vital. I'm still willing to believe he'll be different for us, I've seen what some of our ex-players ( Pell, Fyfield, Jennings) can achieve.

Fair enough. Well his signing will be totally worth it if he helps you get across the line tomorrow.

As for Cowley's comments about tactics against Grimsby, they're obviously valid as Braintree stopped you from scoring in three of the four games. And you could argue you only scored in the last game because of Mark Phillip's incompetence!

What will be the target for Cowley next season then, top 8 finish?

That's also fair but his comment about keeping about Disley quiet is pretty strange. He's not even a very attacking midfielder anymore and I was shocked that Cowley didn't try and counteract Nolan on Sunday when he was clearly our biggest threat- seemed weird lack of Plan B, especially taking off his two strikers.

Excuse me if I'm reading Luke's post the wrong way but what would've happened hD Braintree been promoted? Would he have still left to manage in the league below?

The Cowleys said last night top 10 minimum but I think top 8 and being in and around the play offs would be a good target. For us not having finished in the top half for the last 5 seasons you would imagine we will have a better season sooner or later.

As a pair the Cowleys have had a decent finishing position for the majority of their tenure at Concord and Braintree -

1st promoted
5th p/o lost
2nd p/o won
8th
14th
4th p/o won
9th
7th
6th
3rd p/o lost

I am a bit puzzled then as to why he tweeted this on Monday:

If he knew full well he was leaving then i actually think it is pretty shit of him to tweet that, giving false hope to Braintree fans that he was staying on, before doing what he had planned all along going by comments on this thread.

Nolan is going to run the show on that Wembley pitch.

How? THE SECRET IS OUT thanks to none other than Lincoln City's very own Danny Cowley on how to NULLIFY NOLAN as seen in Braintree's 2-1 defeat by Grimsby last week.
