Good riddance to West Ham. Pathetic that they didnt take it seriously. I feel for the fans.

Elsewhere MSK Zlina grabbed a 123rd minute away goal as they beat Poltava of UKraine

Trabzonpor were beaten by Rabotnicki of Macedonia on away goals over the two legs. Poor effort

And Atromitos of Greece v AIK of Sweden has been interrupted for over half an hour for some reason. They have just got back underway 56 mins in with the Greeks leading 3-1 on agg. Anyone know why?

Aberdeen are still goalless v K.Almaty needing just a single goal to pogress.

Sounds like it was due to a blackout. Not paid the electric bill!

A real shame for them. For the money bags of the PL the EL is a waste of time, but for Aberdeen they could have got nearly 2 mill to qualify which is huge for a Scottish team.

Surely the fact West Ham are playing some of their kids is enough evidence they're not taking the competition seriously?
It now seem so, biffed out before the competition properly began, oh well, here's to the new season and hopefully a decent run in the domestic cups.

Feel for the west ham fans who have travelled, the club treated the game with utter contempt.

Seems like the youth team put in a better performance than the seniors did when they played.

Hope West Ham go down. Very very poor representatives for English football on the European stage.

England should allocate two possible Europa League spots to FA cup and League Cup's runners-up, or semifinalists. At least those are teams who want to achieve something in cup competitions.

I wonder if Villa (as losing finalists) would have made more of a go of it?

We wouldn't have been in the Europa League this season, if Villa won the FA Cup/Allowed the FA Cup runner-up in. :(

I should blame FP instead.

I don't think Bilic was thinking 'I'll play the kids so hopefully we'll go out' at all. I'm more inclined to believe he mistakenly thought his boys were good enough players and could handle the occasion. As we all know, they're nowhere near good enough, as their previous games clearly showed. Beat a poor Andorran team only 4-0 on agg, lost the game in Malta and needed pens to advance, and finally, last night's poor showing.

Not saying Bilic's to blame for the Hammers elimination, however imo, a lot of managers think they can go through playing their reserves or kids, and then introduce the better players when they reach a certain stage or when they know beforehand that their opponents are strong. Imo, this is only due to managers under estimating their opponents. Presently, a large number of European sides, esp those from minnow countries, are taking the euro comps seriously as advancing through a couple of rounds is worth a lot more to them than it does to the bigger clubs.

If it were a one match affair that'd be more plausible, but the fact they got a 2-2 draw should have told him he couldn't rely on second stringers.

maybe their goal was to take Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham a cl-spot away in destroying the nations ranking for England

Southampton vs FC Midtjylland tonight. The Danes are run by the same people who own Brentford and are using the same 'moneyball' style approach, only 1 or 2 years further on. Working well for them so far, this is their first ever season in European competition after winning the Danish league for the first time last year. Interested to see what they're like.

Plus Southampton are always good to watch of late and it's refreshing to see them actually taking the competition seriously

More Brentford fans than Midtjylland in the away end apparently, supporting their sister club!

Saint-Etienne drew 1-1 at Moldavian side Milsami. All was going well when Hamouma opened the scoring (after he missed a penalty) but he then got sent off and Milsami equalised from the resulting free-kick. Saint-Etienne have been very, very shit at defending set-pieces this season.
Bordeaux beat Kairat 1-0 at home. Confident that both will join Marseille in the group stages (and then get knocked out just like every year).
