Whats going on with Darlos ground situation?? What happened to the idea of sharing with the rugby club

If you get promoted is Bishop Aucklands ground up to Conference North standard?? Could going back to the arena be an option or is that a big no no??

The ground share agreement is now with the legal teams of both parties the i's being dotted and t's crossed and all that. It was very much held up by a changing of the Rugby club board which rather changed the goalposts and then by some dopey Dubai based millionaire who wanted to invest 20 million into the site we wanted to share (an idea which i'd hasten to add was nothing to do with DFC and was rejected by the council). From the sounds coming out of both clubs we are hoping to have the ground share signed, sealed and delivered by the end of this month.

Because of the loss of revenue for being out of town some of the initial money raised towards a new ground has been used as revenue to get us through this season so there will need to be a further fundraising effort to fullfil the amount needed to bring BM up to football standards. We already have the planning permission to bring Blackwell Meadows (site of the ground share) up to Conference North standards but again this is more costly than what is required for Evo-Stik stadards.

In terms of our development, Bishop auckland is not up to Conf North standard. But we would be allowed to take promotion while playing at Bishop as long as we could prove that by the April of our first season at that level we have a ground up to Conf North standard, which Blackwell Meadows could well be by that time. The arena is a non starter, the Rugby lub who now occupy us have made it fairly clear they want nothing to do with us and there is no deal to be done.

So in short, ground share should be agrred by the end of this month, work should start at the end of the rugby season in May/June. We could still be promoted to the Conference North as long as we could show we realistically could have a Conf North standard ground by April 2017.

Update since last report of win at Blyth.

v Whitby (h) 2-2 Thompson, Galbraith
v Colwyn Bay (h) 3-0 Galbraith, Burgess (2)
v Marine (a) 0-1 Burgess
v Buxton (h) 3-1 Gaskell, Cartman, Galbraith

Now 4th, 11 points adrift of Blyth, 6 points behind Workington and 5 points adrift of Salford, with 4 games in hand on all of them. Took 16 points from last 18 available, but whether playing catch up will tell on a relatively small squad remains to be seen.

3-0 win over Matlock last night with an absolute worldie of a goal from Darlo forward Lee Gaskell.

Takes us up to 4th in the table. The games in hand we have could take us top but the points Blyth have on the board make them tough to catch.
Workington (2nd) are in great form too. Luckily we've played them twice already this season so in this respect all they can do now is take points from our rivals.
Salford (3rd) remain strong a team with the budget and ambition to strengthen at any time. Huge game for us this weekend away to salford. A draw or a win puts us in a great position to over take them.

Overall I think we might finish second this season. We're in great form but our schedule is now to play Sat-Tuesday for the rest of the season. That's presuming we don't have any more games postponed. Blyth remain in pole position. With points on the board. It will be close between ourselves, salford and Workington. With the final playoff spot probably going to Stourbridge or Ashton. One things for sure any selection of 4 from the teams mentioned would make for really tough playoffs.

We have signed the league's leading goalscorer, Liam Hardy, from Buxton. Undisclosed fee, but not sure why we are paying out when we are still trying to secure a move back to Darlington. Although David Dowson left for Spennymoor, we still have Nathan Cartman, Lee Gaskell, Graeme Armstrong, and a returning Amar Purewal up front. Seems Martin Gray is hell bent on promotion this year, whilst most fans feel we can afford to concentrate on finalising a ground first.

Salford 3 Darlington 4 Gaskell 2, Portas, Cartman

Tremendous character today. 2 down at half tme, we pulled one back only to concede a third quickly. Never gave up, and battled back for a great win. Takes us above them with 3 games in hand. Still 11 adrift of Blyth with 4 in hand so going to be difficult to catch. Wilson Kneeshaw, a lad we released a month ago, scored all 5 for them today. Thought he might come back to haunt us.

Ground out a win against a team who had only lost 1 of their last 10 games. Gives us 25 points out of last 27. Unfortunately Blyth also won 1-0 away, and remain 11 points ahead, though we have those 4 games in hand. Still, personally I would prefer the points in bag, so make Blyth favourites for automatic position. We have Ashton United at home tomorrow night and then Stourbridge away on Saturday, two tough games.

Vicious rumours going around that Ilkeston FC are in serious financial trouble. Very real possibility of them going pop at the end of the season apparently. With it being just 6 years since the demise of Ilkeston Town the FA have said they will not allowed a new club to formed again. Which would be awful.

On the pitch a pretty disatrous 3-0 home defeat to a poor Stamford side doesnt bode well either.

Never good to see a club in financial trouble, especially one that's in the county next door to me. Didn't Ilkeston drastically lower their admission prices recently? That may have led to a fair bit of lost revenue if they haven't managed to attract enough of the floating supporters in the area.

Again?!? I swear they were in the news a season or two ago for the same reasons, not forgetting they reformed again in 2010. Reformed clubs should know better than anyone else about setting realistic budgets etc

Ilkeston got rid of 9 senior first team teamers last week saying the club would focus on its youth development and play them in the first team. From what I know they have some pretty talented younger players and are starting to get a reputation for developing players with league potential. Che Adams (Sheffield Utd and callum Chettle (Peterborough) being prime examples.

Hope these rumors about them aren't true, dont like to see any club go under. Great little ground that they have would be a shame to see it go empty.

Some of the posts on their forum are very interesting. Basically it appears they have been run poorly for a number of years. More as an academy than a football club with an over reliance on transfer fees for their good youngsters. They have a superb academy which keeps churning out very good young talent. Former Ilkeston players are dotted all over the football league. Ash Hunter at Fleetwood is another example.

As somebody who takes a keen interest in local non league football it would awful to lose Ilkeston. Their a lovely club. I am few members of the family who used to support them too. Hope they can pull gthrough but the situation sounds pretty desepate. The unprecedented move to get rid of all their senior players recently set alarm bells ringing.

And that would be another local rival after Hucknall and Eastwood to go bust!

Yes they did. Their "affordable football promotion which by the sounds it has been marketed poorly and totally back fired. Their arive attendance this season has gone up by ONE PERSON from last season. Something like an average attendance of 422 in 2014/15 and 423 this season. Dont quote me on those numbers though.

I don't see why they are getting all this exposure.

Ridiculous.

People watch it because there are famous people and "normal people" interacting (non-league part time players). It's cheap TV to make so it's a good return on investment in terms of viewer figures. It gives the (false) impression the BBC actually care about non-league/grass roots football. Frankly it all makes sense from a number of angles, though I still don't like it.

If people still watch it then there will be a 3rd season too I bet unless those people pull out of Salford.

Cracking match last night, as for the second time this season Darlington fought back to beat Salford, this time 3-2. Goals from Terry Galbraith, Leon Scott and Liam Hardy. Decent crowd of 1,587 for a Tuesday Night. Still 13 points adrift of Blyth with 4 games in hand. They had an impressive 2-0 win at Mickleover last night, despite going down to 10 men at 0-0.

Another very hard game at home to Nantwich on Saturday.

Nantwich scored their 104th goal of the season in all comps in a 5-1 win over bamber Bridge yesterday. Shame the league form has been a bit patchy at times but to be expected being the semi finals of the trophy and quater finals of the Dootson league cup. Still got an outside chance of play offs but it will be a big ask.

After another postponement saturday, back with a 3-1win over Ilkeston tonight. Cartman, Gaskell and Brown with the goals. After Blyth suffered a suprise defeat saturday, it puts us 10 points behind with 4 games in hand. Still think it will prove just too much for us.

Tuesday Night Stamford 1 Darlington 4 Brown, Galbraith, Armstrong, Cartman
Tremendous performance, as had to make three changes to starting line up as accident on A1 held 5 of the team up. A surprise defeat on Saturday for Blyth means we are now 4 points behind with three games in hand. Tough game at home to Rushall on Saturday though.

Could be an incredible season for the club. Fighting hard for a 3rd promotion in 4 years and now looks like we could finally be heading home.

Would you expect your crowds to double playing back in Darlo?

I don't know if they would double. But I would certainly expect at least 500 to be added to each gate. Then you have the case of if we get promoted there will be a few increased gates against teams like FC United, Stockport, Telford etc. Think we would have more than enough for a very competitive part time budget

Hard fought 1-0 win over Rushall at weekend. Kevin Burgess with the goal. Still 4 points behind Blyth with three games in hand. Tricky game at Nantwich tonight. Be pleased with a draw I think, although could depend how they react to their FA Trophy heartbreak.

Well it seems the trophy defeat may have took something out of them. I really thought this could be a banana skin, but we have carried on our incredible run. Gap down to a point with 2 games in hand. Come on Darlo!
