That Palmer looks special, if England can just produce some young defenders we will be laughing!

Good effort from Swindon, frustrating the goals they conceded which mainly were down to their own doing being tactically suicidal but in fairness their keeper saved them a few times too from quality play. If he got fingers to that one off the bar late on it’s a worldie of a save.

Good goal from McKirdy, lack of talent isn’t his problem just needs to keep himself in check. History suggests he won’t but maybe the risk of dropping out all together sees the penny drop with him.

Great experience for the Swindon players and nice for the crowd to see a strong City team plus getting a goal and being competitive.

Fantastic.

Great that Man City showed their opposition respect even when COVID-stricken.

Great that the County Ground was fuller than it has been for years.

Great that Swindon - and McKirdy, especially - struck back a bit.

Great that this will help sort Swindon's finances out a bit, too.

More of this, all round, really. Expecting even one of the very best teams in our league to beat even a non-full strength version of one of the best (and most bankrolled) teams in Europe or beyond....would have been exceedingly optimistic. But as such things go, more of this sort of thing, please.

(As for the playing out from the back when they ought not to thing.....well they were a Mark Cooper team not that long ago I suppose)

I thought Swindon did well tonight, and without Garner's suicidal tactics the scoreline would have been closer. McKirdy had a good game and the right back looked decent as well.

Well that was fun. A silly part of me thinks if we stopped the mucking about at the back tonight it would have been a hell of a lot closer. City are used to trying to stop the best teams in the world from playing out from the back so not sure why we thought we could do it. Mainly caused them problems by going slightly more direct into McKirdy and Simpson.

Players like Rodri are so good to see in person. The level is outrageous.

Pleased City put out nigh on a full international side, we made some money, and didn't get embarrassed.

Good luck to the other league 2 clubs involved this weekend!

We will. Difference is that the quality of opposition is nowhere near that of Man City. Playing this way has got us into the POs. Not my favourite style of play but you can’t argue with the table.

Excellent, should make for a good game.

Yeah it’s admirable to do it at our level, surprised you tried it against city, but guess you shouldn’t change too much to something you’re not familiar with.

Given the circumstances at the beginning of the season and your previous owner last night was deserved for you boys.

Re today’s game, bit of a free hit for us.

On tv abroad so we get some money for that and it’s a 7,500 or so sell out.

We’ve won 10 out of the last 11 and last 5 at home.

I’d take wins over swindon on tuesday and walsall next saturday over this in a heartbeat though if it were offered

We are on abroad so assume we get some cash too which is nice then, the hoards in the USA, Australia and the likes of Burkina Faso will be tuning in I’m sure!

Good luck to all the other league two teams also in action today, hope we all do our level proud and a couple of us at least to get through to round 4.

Some decent comments on here from fans of other teams from last night's game. I feared the worst going 2-0 down from an absolutely pathetic give away goal but despite only having 22% possession thought we put on a decent show for league 2. From a selfish perspective the penalty save and our goal were obvious highlights and what a rush to have those 2 things to celebrate. I thought Simpson and McKirdy worked tirelessly and gave City a few headaches.

Being at the ground I had to count the number of City players at times because it seemed they had way more players than us!! Garner clearly wants to play in a certain way and you have to give him credit for not changing that against the best team in the country. Man City are clearly the benchmark we want to get to (pie in the sky) and showed how possession football with an end product should be played.

My only concern now is how this will effect games with Mansfield and Port Vale this week as we seemed to be like the walking wounded at the end.

Good luck to other league 2 representatives today.

Mansfield just fought back from 2-0 down to level to 2-2. Extra time for them would be lovely bearing in mind we play them on Tuesday night!

Should be 3-2, Johnson scored a goal that was incorrectly flagged offside.

Credit to this side, I thought we were gunna be comfortably beaten when it went 2-0 earlier but whatever happens now they done us proud.

Great news for us that James Wilson and Amoo start. No sign of Rodney, whether that’s due to him still carrying a knock or if there is something in him departing during this window I don’t know. Nice opportunity for Harratt off the bench too.

Own goal in 95th minute for Middlesbrough to win it, completely against the run of play. Standard FA Cup, we get a goal incorrectly disallowed then they go and blag it. Feel like we got robbed, we were all over them at times in that second half.

Enjoyed it this year though, Sunderland away then Donny away in front of 3,500 Mansfield fans in one of the best atmospheres for a long time. Time to keep that league run going now!

Sucks doesn't it?
Especially as they have VAR for Premier League grounds but not the rest. Ridiculous situation.

Owner Clem Morfuni, on behalf of Swindon Town Football Club, would like to issue the following statement in regards to reports of racial abuse at Friday's game against Manchester City.

During our Emirates FA Cup Third Round Tie against Manchester City at The County Ground, we sadly received reports of racial abuse towards Ashley Cole, who was part of ITV's broadcast team.

We are absolutely saddened and deeply disgusted by this, and we cannot stress strongly enough that racial abuse of any kind will not be tolerated by Swindon Town Football Club.

Racism has no place in the world, and it is incredibly heartbreaking that this still has a place in our game.

We are currently working with Wiltshire Police on gathering evidence, but those responsible will be punished accordingly.

On behalf of everyone at Swindon Town Football Club, we send out our heartfelt apologies to Ashley Cole, and it is with our deepest regret that you had to experience that last night.

Those few individuals do not represent Swindon Town and will not be welcome at The County Ground.

Supt Phil Staynings, on behalf of Wiltshire Police, said: "We are aware that one person was subject to racial abuse at the County Ground following the Swindon Town v Manchester City game last night (07/01).

“We have already commenced an investigation, obtaining statements and securing CCTV. Further enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing.

“Behaviour of this nature is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54220002136."

What goes through these idiot's fans heads? We have a black centre forward for fucks sake!! Sickened by whoever this is, unacceptable behaviour.

Just got to give credit where it’s due these are a really good team. Their quality on the ball is proving a bit too much for us to deal with. We are trying our best though.

Slightly disappointed with the way we stood off to let them break for their goal but it’s well deserved for them.

Was that at the end? Could hear a few had stayed behind and were singing some stuff behind the cameras when the presenters were at that pitch side desk. Both Cole and Eni Aluko looked uncomfortable. Noticed they then moved to the middle of the pitch after the ad break to finish off.

Two goals and a man down against Barnsley - it's all over. We were competing well but fucked it for ourselves. Got to concentrate on staying up now.

I am a bit frustrated to be honest for all their play they haven’t had much in the way of chances and that goal was us over playing in midfield.

We’ve had a go and still in it. Worrall dumping their number 2 on his arse was a rare bit of attacking excitement.

Keep it 1-0 as long as we can and see if anything drops.

I couldn't tell you to be honest, I'm sure given the amount of phones recording something will come out. Hopefully whoever did it is properly punished and is not allowed into the County Ground for a long time.
