Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I wasn't meaning to turn it into another Wimbledon debate, just pointing out that clubs can always easily protest things in other ways even if games have to go ahead.

If FCUM really did feel they had to make a stand its not that impossible to just ask their fanbase to go to a different game that weekend and ask manager to put in no first teamers.....BT would never come back after that.

but football has no backbone thesedays from top to bottom, the Fifa stuff should point to England pulling out of the world cup but they won't due to this fixed fascination of 'must take part' and 'must watch'

I didn't know BBC were doing some sort've documentary on Salford, can understand their wish to show them now even though it'll gain no real viewers

Salford vs Notts is an acceptable TV tie even without the Class of 92 hype, to be fair.

Our game has been moved to the Sunday as well. This means

2pm 08/10 away at Maidstone
7.45pm 10/10 away at Gillingham.

Sturrock has already said we won't be staying over so two loooong trips in 48 hours to two places 10 miles apart. Lump your money on the Gills in the JPT.

Last year when travelling around UK, I even made sure that the trains I was going to use, didn't go though scum town. I didn't want to go anywhere near it, I might have caught the pox or something.
That makes going from London to Birmingham and the North West a tad difficult! But seriously...

Would of even if you had stayed over to be fair. Just imagine if they did this to a PL side. The uproar it would cause!

That really makes no sense at all.

Also: is that you on our forum? Be careful, it's half trolls half idiots on there.

With Carlisle away tomorrow, Maidstone away on the 8th and Gillingham away on the 10th that's over 1200 miles in 11 days. There has to be a bloody good reason for not staying over in Kent.

Well the question of money in football is a prickly one... because there are two ends to the debate.

At one end the amount of money being paid to and from the top clubs in prize money for average league finishes and group-stage cup exits, parachute payments, wealthy investors, corporate sponsors, transfer fees and player salaries is just getting more and more ridiculous by the year, and looking at the cost of attending top-flight football these days it does kind of push proper fans out of the picture.

But that isn't to say that the rest of British football doesn't need every penny it can get its hands on, and if someone wants to televise a fixture in return for being able to move it to a different time to make it more lucrative for them, that's just a pill we have to swallow. It's the same if the clubs we follow want to introduce two new strips per season, or put ticket prices up. I'm sure most of them do have the fans' best interests at heart but nobody is playing for them, or printing their programmes or stewarding their fixtures for free, all this must be paid for. Maybe FC United don't have this problem because they've a huge profile as a club for the level of football they play at, and this is what annoys me a bit about them, they've come out of that world of hugely overblown moneybags football, and they didn't like it, so now they're down here with us and probably have the resources to exist quite happily thanks to their profile, while lecturing clubs with much lower profiles, and much higher costs about the evils of money in football.

We recieved our share of the gate reciepts from Anfield today... just over a quarter of a million thank you very much, and clubs like ours need those cash injections every now and again. The money isn't likely to go on paying gross player salaries or agents fees but will most likely go towards paying off debts, keeping the wolf from the door and investing in the future.

Agreed. Don't think Orient - Staines deserves its own thread either, though it is the first time in many, many years that we'll have played three shiny new never-met-before opponents in a row.

Still, we'll be able to celebrate that 'achievement' again in the coming seasons once we inevitably 'do an Oxford'.

Our tie at Salford is an interesting one, even though they're the non-league side their profile means a lot of the pressure is actually on them.

We should beat Basingstoke but Money's dismissal makes the game (and our starting XI) even less predictable. As a total guess, I'm going for a 3-0 win and a feel good sense returning to the Abbey.

Hold on, I think Cambridge - Basingstoke deserves it's own thread. It's not like we're playing Staines or Oldham you know, it should be a very balanced match with, I would say, a 78% chance of going to a replay. I would even go as far as saying it's THE match of the round.

Can I start a thread now?

Edit - We should go through, but I'm thinking we'll only get a narrow 1-0 win, or perhaps a 2-1 win. They'll probably be extra cautious, and that's not exactly how we play, as we depend a lot on fast breaks. Or I should say, we "try" to play a fast game.

All the pressure is still on Notts. I'm expecting spencer to start this one imagine we will go 451 keep things tight.

And what might "doing an Oxford" be then?

1,913 tickets sold for our trip to Coventry. Would love to get above 2,500.

We're close to a sell out at the weekend so I've heard.

Nah, wouldn't change the team at all apart from maybe Campbell for Burke. Not got a game for a fortnight afterwards so we might as well go full strength and make sure we finish it off.
