Who knew Germany would go into this game needed to avoid defeat to stave off elimination? I wouldn't be surprised if the Mexico game knocked the rust off them and we see them coast. Or are their pre-tournament well founded?

As for Sweden, they are off to a good start. They'll surely be happy with a point here, puts them in a decent position to qualify.

We came back from a 4-0 lead against Germany so we know how to score against them.
Going to be really tough game imho, but we could win, we just need that last bit in the attack.

That's old hat, was in 2012.

yeah, was the only time in over 110 years that we gave away a 4-0 lead (in only 30 minutes :D ). But hey we won 5-3 in the return leg in Sweden.
So yes you scored goals against us but you haven't won against us in 30 years and only once in a tournament, in 1958 in your own World Cup.

I know that you don't necessarily need to win this but we have to. I wouldn't be too surprised though given our latest performances if we fail this time but I would be very disappointed if we won't win this one especially after all the turmoil in the last months I am expecting a positive reaction. If not I am the first to congratulate Sweden but I hope I won't have to.

Due to the quality of the German team the chance that we win is slim, but we've seen quite some upsets already in the WC.

Our main focus will be to have a solid defense and don't let you get too many chances at scoring.

Either way, it's going to be a great game.

I hope so.
If it's a great game and we fail to win than that's ok. That's easier to bear than another shite match like the last ones

Looks like that Mats Hummels is out for the Sweden match due to injury in a training session. A few months ago I would be horrified about this news but we have Niklas Süle, a similar lumberjack like the Swedes. And Hummels was already out of form for quite some time, sometimes unconcentrated in the d#, played as if he took some valium before the match.

Anyway, either we win or we're going home.

edit: His injury in German is "Halswirbel verrenkt". Looked it up in a german-english dictionary "dislocated/luxated cervical vertebra"

Will be stuck in a car somewhere far away pretty much right up until kickoff. Usually I’d be rather defeatist going into a must not lose-game against Germany and I very much am.

Fingers crossed for a boring 0-0!

phew, 4 changes to the Mexico match. Özil and Khedira out.

Neuer, Kimmich, Boateng, Rüdiger, Hector, Rudy, Kroos, Müller, Draxler, Reus, Werner

I thought he would bring Süle instead of Rüdiger for the injured Hummels. But anyway, it's a major change. Let's see. I am still in "Götterdämmerung" mode.

There are only two possibilities imho:

We will totally outclass sweden by 5, 6, 7 goals or we're going home.

Drop Özil, that’s what I said he should do. Expecting more of a fluent and creative Germany performance now.

Commentator just said last three winners crashed out at the group stage, but didn't Brazil reach the quarters in 2006?

That is a much more balanced Germany side. Still don't think they should have left out Sane, regardless of his form internationally. But yeah, I think they'll win based off that set up.

There’s a very simple explanation for that.. he was wrong.

How has VAR missed that, Boateng clearly fouls Berg. That's shocking. 2nd foul Germany have got away with after Muller's pull back earlier.

How the fuck was that not a pen with VAR and all? Nowhere near the ball yet clear contact right when he's going to finish.

Var has been pretty good overall this tournament, but then there’s something like that, which makes people dislike it again. One of the most blatant penalties so far

Most likely is surely that VAR, given the angles they have, said pen and the ref just ignored it, which he's entitled to do? I cannot for the life of me imagine they watch that back and say not a pen.

Germany has played very ugly so far, it's a shame they haven't been carded yet.

Germany are horrifically open at the back, a Sweden team with zero pace upfront have caught them 3 times already. Sweden deserve their lead after that VAR shambles earlier.

I really think Boateng is extremely overrated. I don’t think him nor Rudiger are leaders at the back. There’s no organisation

Why cut inside there, hit it first time. Another chance goes begging for Sweden.
