This is the bit that doesn’t sit right/make sense to me. This argument doesn’t stand up when we could’ve tested the team this week and got Bradford on. We can’t be forced into it, but we should’ve at least tried.
It does make sense though, as the test is ultimately pointless if you've been in contact with someone that has tested positive.

If it was that plain-cut, then the EFL wouldn’t take it upon themselves to investigate you for breach of testing protocol.

Just to add; in yesterday’s EFL statement, it confirms that the game will not be played because you are unable to forefill the fixture.

Without wanting to sound like a broken record; why doesn’t your chairman pay for the testing? That way, the testing protocol has been adhered to and we can play the game under the correct safety guidelines.

It’s that’s simple.

Nowhere does it say (that I can see) the EFL are investigating a breach of protocol - the EFL statement posted on here says the circumstances surrounding the postponement are subject to an investigation - AS ARE ALL POSTPONEMENTS.

The testing thing is strange though. If the Grimsby players haven't seen the positive player for 5+ days, then they should now be able to do a test now that will confirm if they are positive/negative because symptoms would've appeared. Presumably they are only not testing because the chairman doesn't feel he should have to pay for it?

Is the government guideline to stop loads of people coming for tests though? After 5 days you’ll show symptoms so for me the gov guidelines reflect if you’re showing symptoms after being in contact then you probably have it, why have a test if you’re isolating anyway?

We have a group of players that are now out of the incubation period so the test would be accurate and reliable. If we’re paying for the test ourselves and not all going along to an NHS testing centre we absolutely should be doing that in the interest of the league. It feels like the only reason we’re not doing that is to prove a point that we don’t think this season is viable which I’m a bit annoyed at the club for as it reflects badly on us.

However, at the end of the day it’s absolutely our choice to do so and Bradford can’t bully teams into paying for tests. I do wish we’d just be honest about it though.

After 5 days, you might show symptoms, or they may take 14 days to appear, or is it 10? Not too sure, are you?

Absolute farce if we're docked points for following government guidelines. Once again Grimsby proving to be one of the few teams in the division taking this pandemic seriously.

Oh and Bottega Don and F-I-R-T-H-Y, we've signed about 12 players so it's not a case of not being able to "forefil" our fixtures.

How do we pay for testing, by the way? Are there private companies that are willing to go round to all of our squad and staff members' houses? Genuinely not sure if there are or not. As far as I'm aware, the postal swab tests are pretty much impossible to get hold of right now? If the players leave their houses they risk fines of up to £10k. It's probably an alien concept for a lot of fans in this division, who support clubs that are spunking obscene amounts of money they don't have on wages but we don't really want to run the risk of about £400k worth of fines.

Here he goes again...

Grimsby, the only properly run club in the entire EFL. Everybody else is reckless and throwing stupid money about. Or maybe, some of us have fantastic owners guiding us through an extremely challenging period with shrewd business decisions that means we don't have a single thing tl worry about. Clearly if it becomes a long term thing, certain measures will be taken to make adjustments as and when needed. Holloway has got muppets like you on strings. Laughable how you can't see what the majority can see you're doing. Following advice, fine. Guidelines...blah, blah, blah.. Clearly everyone else is wrong and Grimsby are superior. It's your shady demeanour that everyone has taken issue with, not the actual course of action, which may or may not be justified. It's just convenient how you're doing this as your squad is in an absolutely piss poor state. I dare say you would've played that game had you been a Vale, Cambridge or Harrogate, for example...

One of our academy staff has tested positive and the academy is closed now for 2 weeks and the teams games P-P but does not affect the rest of the club and first team.

5 days is the mean average. 14 days is the maximum apparently.

I haven't actually offered any opinion on whether or not I believe we're doing this due to the current state of our squad so you're jumping to assumptions there. All I'm saying is that we're following government guidelines.

For what it's worth, so what if we're playing the system? You've got plenty of teams getting all their transfer business done early without any basis for forming a budget so they can take advantage of that ridiculous loophole that says anyone signed before a certain date qualifies as £1300pw. You've got an abundance of teams spending well above what they can afford. There's also the likes of Flynn at Newport who has publicly stated before that he plays the three internationals rule to his own advantage...so yeah I'm not arsed if that's what the club is doing to be honest. Who can blame them? We're just cheating in a different way to the rest of the division if that's the case.

However, the fact that we were barely match fit going into our last game surely indicates that we wouldn't be so stupid to sacrifice 2 weeks of training. Explain that one if it's so obvious what we're doing?

Has anyone stopped to consider that maybe, just maybe...the club is genuinely looking after its players?

And hilarious Dan Phillips, that you seem to think I'm being totally serious with all the financial stuff I bang on about. Unlike you lot with your Port Vale branded food parcels that you all gathered and held hands around and swayed in the late summer breeze to while singing hymns about your new owners and saving the world. That was completely tongue in cheek wasn't it?

What started as a reasonable and well written post transcended into childishness and pettiness towards the end and you lost all credibility.

The club have been very open about the state of the finances and the fact that they have been trying to keep costs as low as possible due to the pandemic and what might happen going forward, including being one of the few clubs to have contingency plans written into the players contracts. It’s called sensible business and why should we give a shit what other people are doing or saying. You think is makes us look silly but I suspect there is a general issue that you have with the board that means this is good excuse to have a go.

When a club goes about cutting costs for the sake of the club, including things like cutting support staff to a minimum in order to survive a long hard financial season, what message does it then send out to spend £3.5k or probably more (Stevenage have a tie in with sours don’t they so might have been able to arrange the tests quickly and at minimal cost compared to others) to play a game when they don’t have to and are also putting more people at risk of spreading the disease.

There are a lot of people who don’t think the season is going to finish anyway so why spunk out money that you don’t have to.

It‘s not ideal, but the club has my support for the decision made.

I thought that a lot of people never showed symptoms (asymptomatic) and that's why testing was so important.

I thought the lockdown was to flatten the curve of people getting ill so that the hospitals would not be overrun.

I thought once the curve had been flattened we would come out of lockdown and get back to a semblance of normality.

I realise now that what I think counts for nothing!

That was the idea certainly and hospital admissions have started to drop again but seems inevitable as the winter gets going restrictions will get tighter (can’t see us affording a full lockdown mind).

Not sure where it all ends to be honest, could be a couple more years of the dance between lifting and reimposing restrictions.

I wonder what today will bring? :fish: :db::fing:
Hearing the Port Vale owners are closing in on completion of a COVID vaccine and an EU trade deal and this afternoon will be holding a press conference highlighting the club's stance on both gender inequalities and international immigration.

I’ve long said that the board have done well in the sense they’ll never send us bust, no real issue with them at all.

I just find it problematic that we’ve planned for the very worst and nothing else, if things pick up we could be absolutely shafted and well into a relegation fight. I wish we’d found some balance in everything and this saga is yet another example of us coming up short.

Having to tape up their letterboxes because Ryan Sparks has breached lockdown to go to Grimsby/Cleethorpes and post fireworks into all their houses. And yes, he went there on the train without a mask and has licked all the seats and handrails to prove that he and his club are real men and can play football during a global pandemic.

Update on Covid-Gate;

It appears the reason we are in 14 day quarantine may be because we didn’t follow the guidelines properly in the first place.

What a surprise to see it may have been our fault after all.

Love it when the guy who updates his signature after every Vale game logs on at 1.51am to preach about someone else being a saddo.

Tbf his signature alone has more easy access info/stats then our whole fucking official site does. Decent job I reckon.
