You can't deny Liverpool fans had previous in this era and if the minority had acted like normal rationale human beings and queued and gained entry into the ground in the correct manner, this event wouldn't have happened.

Don’t think it’s that he did nothing wrong, opening the gates was pretty poor. But the choice of ground by the FA, design of the ground by SWFC, the implementation of barriers (FA I assume), the failure to show a pen as full (Duckenfield?), pitting Liverpool fans in the smaller end in the first place (South Yorkshire police), the sheer number of tickets sold and those there without tickets etc were all contributing factors. Pinning the blame on one man was always going to be hard to prove.

Lying, while in poor taste and pretty disgraceful when deaths are involved, isn’t an act which leads to death itself. Boris Johnson lies but he’s not in jail. Maggie happily tarred Liverpool with all sorts but you couldn’t really convict her of anything.

It’s the acts which led to the deaths which are up for trial here, not the character of the twat running the police.
