I feel that Destruction must be trolling here, even if everyone in Scotland voted for Labour they still wouldn't have got into power apparently. If everyone who didn't vote decided that they actually would then we might have seen a very different story.

Just spoken to two staunch unionists, one actually went out canvassing for BetterTogether, and both voted SNP. So based on that exhaustive survey I conclude that we shouldn't read to much into this from an independence point of view :2thumb:

As I said earlier, people have shifted away from Labour up here to the SNP as they feel Labour has lost its core values. Some of them will not want independence, but some might now. There won't be another referendum on it for at least a decade imo though.

A party like that will not garner any support just now, and probably wouldn't do great long term either. Just like how a supposed Labour/SNP coalition got numpties riled, whenever unionism is stated up here its extremely polarising and plays into the SNP hands more.

Agreed. Personally I am no great fan of the SNP but they played the game well. I believe the reason a unionist party wouldn't win is that it is effectively voting 'against' something and so would always feel like it was defensive.

I think that politics in Scotland will return to a more balanced position when the Westminster parties stop believing that Scotland **couldn't** be independent to a position where they genuinely feel they **shouldn't** be independent. But I suspect that Scottish Labour and SNP may well merge (once current animosities and personalities have settled down). This will come after independence when a 'national' party, to some extent, ceases to be relevant. I am convinced, after this election, that Scotland will now become independent, not so much because Scottish voters want it, but because English voters also want it. Shame, because the Union created a really great country and we kind of messed it all up somehow. A mixture of English arrogance combined with Scottish arrogance. And some of the most feeble, lame, characterless, self-centred politicians since the dawn of time.
