As you ask, how many times have Liverpool finished mid table in the last 30 years, never mind lower table? Now do the same for Everton. Also, Everton have won a single trophy since 1987. Feel free to check what Liverpool have won since then.

However, I personally wouldn't describe Everton as a mid table team. More upper half perhaps. But like it or not, Chelsea are a more attractive proposition than Everton currently are. And, if it makes you feel any better, Liverpool too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Why 30 years ? why not 50 or 60 years is it because your were a second division team back then? :eyes:

If you need me to explain why Liverpool are a bigger club than Everton then you're more deluded than I thought.
where did i ask that? i just asked if we are a mid-table team, how did you come to that conclusion

If you go back to the start, Liverpool have won 62 major trophies. Everton have won 24.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'm not even a Liverpool fan but your jealousy of them is worrying.

Do it from day one then if you prefer. We're still not middtable and have won far, far more than Everton.

I'm a little unsure what you're trying to achieve here. Do you even know?

Come on, surely even you can do better than this? Do you even know what 'debate' we're meant to be having? What am I meant to have lost? Please elaborate.

charity shield / league cup major?

Take them off then. They're still won twice as many league titles and five more European Cups than you have.

Infact, there is no trophy on there that you've won more than they have.

It's possibly a win-win situation. Chelsea get a potentially world class CB who can replace Terry for the next ten years. £40m isn't big money when you consider the years of service they'll get for him. Similar to what United did with Shaw. Everton will get silly money to reinvest in the team. They could replace Stones and strengthen 3/4 other areas with that money. It could make them a much better team.

The problem here is Bill Kenwright. Will Martinez see much of the £40m? I'm not sure, but I'm sure that's what worries Everton fans most.

Great post, but the initial post was about Stones thinking he can cut it at the top table after 1 semi-decent season at Everton when we were a lower than mid-table side .....i cant think why he would think he is good enough......

Everton should realise they are a small stepping stone club who should buy low and sell high and come midtable every other year. Once they realise that the fans will be more realistic with their aims and not get carried away when a player wants to move up the ladder.

Nothing wrong with a bit of self-belief. He is clearly talented, and with the right guidance at Chelsea he could become an excellent player. He and Zouma could forge a great partnership.

His head is clearly turned now, so Everton would be silly not to sell.

Everton are a nothing club now tbh.Terry is getting old and Cahill is certainly not the greatest defender (who could be displaced by Stones sooner rather than later). This is an ideal time for Stones to join Chelsea. Sure, he might not start every single game but enough to develop himself and be phased in next season as the first choice. #FreeJohnStones
