this 'saga' has just highlighted the warped vision most people have of modern football. They just expect all clubs to be subservient to Chelsea, City, United and to a lesser extent, Arsenal and maybe Liverpool. It doesn't make sense to them that other clubs have their own motivations, want to build their own success, and can't comprehend clubs putting their ambitions ahead of a players wishes!

want to see the same old teams competing for the same trophies every year? If it wasn't for the quality of football on display from the likes of Barca and Bayern, I'd never watch the Champions League - it's like groundhog day every season.

Do we think any club would act different if they traded positions with Chelsea or Manchester United? Doubtful. It's the same in significantly more industries than just football.

Everton have no direction or motivation though, they are happy like Newcastle just to survive in the league.

Hence you can't blame Stones for wanting to go to a place where they could achieve success. He has no reason in any way to show loyalty.

Seems to be lost on johnnytodd that Stones was poached from a lower league clubs academy. Stepping stones and all that.

it seems lost on you that we offered money to buy their player and they had the option to say no and make a stance like we have.....what we didn't do is get players and pundits to print articles about why he should sign for us and move from Barnsley, we never made 3 or 4 bids continually even though we were told the player is not for sale........maybe Barnsley need to grow a pair like Everton

We didn't want to stand in the way of a young player with the chance to progress his career. Maybe Everton need to be more considerate of the players need to play at a higher level.

I get Everton's stance but why any top player would sign a contract without a cast iron clad get out clause saying that if a certain price is bid then he is free to leave is beyond stupid

I think you're being a bit unfair here Mr John toddler. Not everyone can fund the price of going to premier league games.

Maybe because no-one wanted to read about the transfer saga involving a midtable Premer League side and a League One side?

Just maybe?

It's because he's leaving the biggest club in the world with the most loyal supporters to join Chelsea...

Nice signature. I see you're following the same route as a lot of other Everton fans have during the long history of TFF/1FF. Start out an Everton fan. End up an anti-Liverpool obsessive.

Don't worry, we understand it can be hard living in such a large shadow. Bitterness is almost inevitable.

Everton and Martinez playing hard game, rejecting transfer request and several bids. Mourinho must be pissed off.

This is madness from Everton.

I don't know what they're expecting to happen? Best case scenario for Everton is that Stones sees out his entire contract - then you have a player just about to reach his peak, leaving for free. Everton are going to invest their time and effort developing a young player, knowing they won't reap the benefit of him playing for their club once [if] he fulfills his potential.

If [and I know it's an if] Chelsea bid £40 million for Stones, Everton would be insane to turn it down. Even if Stones fulfills his potential, he won't be worth more than £40 million. He's already made it clear he'll leave at some stage, so to keep him at the club as a matter of principle is ridiculous.

Everton need to accept they will lose him at some point, and then decide when is the best time to lose him. I can't think of a much better time than when someone offers £40 million.

He's just signed a 5 year deal, and if he still wants to leave next summer we will sell him for £50 million plus, simple as that, there will be plenty of takers, the biggest thing was how Chelsea went about it and when ( i week left before they made a respectable offer of £37 million).......we don't roll over like other clubs

What if you have a bad season or he picks up an injury?

You can't guarantee he'll have a good season.
