Hey, if he starts six of them on Saturday you won't get a fine. Are you playing York?

Accrington at home, will be 11 changes again I expect.

I forgot we were even playing until half time last night - meaningless cup

I understand our reserve side got dicked by county - but I think we've only got about 20 players, guessing they could field 2 full sides easily. Even though we won the league game with surprising ease, it was still evident from that game that if you let them come at you and dictate play they would hurt us - maybe the fiesty, in your face, aggressive football side to us was missing last night?

I gave about as much fuck as I did last season - which was about nothing. Pleased we won the game that mattered a few weeks back.

Nothing can possibly be read from the result, glad we're out, and the best of luck to county in the competition going forward

I'm very disappointed we are out of this for 2 reasons. Firstly I don't believe we are at all good enough for a promotion push so the cups would keep this season interesting and secondly and more importantly I wanted us to keep up the momentum. I wanted us to go into the Barnet game on a 3 match winning run and not go into it off a defeat, we need to re-build momentum again which is a shame.

but some big lessons learned from that game...........mostly that we are f*cked if we lose Ibere or moreso Gillespie during the season, the back-up simply isn't good enough. I've hardly seen Hanford at all but anytime seen or heard he just gives the impression that he is well............a garbage goalkeeper.

sounds like unfortunately we didn't care until a goal down but at least we seemed to rally at 1 down and should have equalized but sadly just didn't get that final finish.

need a quick bounce back now.

haha what a complete prat Adam Murray has made of himself

What's he done?

He rested the maximum amount of players he was legally allowed and experimented by shuffling his small pack. Most Stags fans would have done the same. An injury to an important player to us would really put us back. So much so that my 6 fingered woolly gloves are sewn with the fingers crossed.

Although result means very little I am worried by our lack of depth.

His interview showed a complete lack of class and was hilariously arrogant for someone who manages fucking Mansfield - he seemed to imply you weren't arsed you lost and were somehow above the JPT. Astounding.

Well, when you've a small squad as opposed to one of about 40 players maybe its a wise idea to prioritise.

It would have been nice to have won, we didn't, we don't have much depth as shown last night so he did the right thing.

The main team that won with such ease at meadow lane a few weeks ago needs protecting and he did exactly that

You mean he's been reading this forum and decided to not just take a leaf from your own personal book, but swipe all ten volumes?

I'm disappointed in him.

All his interviews are waffle! I don't know why anyone bothers asking him anything, it's all filler.

He had a go at us for buying someone, which was a bit weird.

Moniz's are probably the best thing about us as a club currently.

Moniz is the best thing about us in the history of our club. He spent 10 minutes last night refusing to substitute a player who was signalling every 20 seconds that he needed to come off because he was ill and had a stomach bug. Moniz was literally willing to make him do a shit on the pitch just so he didn't have to bring on Alan Smith. A man who would go to those lengths to keep Smith off the pitch is a man who has won my heart.

Agree with pretty much everything people have said about the merits of the JPT against League aspirations. Given the choice our Manager would I suspect have preferred to play the kids in a game against the League 1 pace setters. We then find out that another of the senior players has gone down in the warm up, what next....... A decent game of football tbf. True we rode our luck at times but when you are down to 15 available players you are due a slice of fortune. Shame there were so few home fans to watch such a spirited display, 322 Walsall fans is a decent effort considering the car park that is the M6 these days. Hopefully we can get a few back in contention for the weekends trip to Yeovil but whatever we all may think about he JPT we have played a decent team, learned a bit more about the strength of our squad and have managed to win which is a decent habit to get into.

the much maligned jpt shouldn't ruin teams league plans,
opinions would change if you reached the final in front of 40000 of your fans.
what would managers and supporters rather their team do on a midweek night,
a meaningless practice session with no reward in sight?
any competitive game should not be treated with derision,
especially if the good form and winning momentum gets you up the division.
I,for one, would like to thank the JPT,
for giving me a wonderful memory of winning a cup at Wembley.

It's like Premier League clubs and the League Cup, no idea why you'd ever not try and compete for silverware - for lower league clubs it makes even less sense given the cash you get from making the final too. It's a competition where you're 4 or 5 rounds away from Wembley, a trophy and a tidy amount of money and you only have to play League 1 and League 2 teams. Why anyone wouldn't want to take that seriously is beyond me.

Agree with RavenBish. Winning is a good habit to get into and it certainly didn't do Bristol City any harm last season.

The Portsmouth position is bizarre. If they feel so strongly they should be able to play whoever they like, then lobby their fellow L2 and L1 clubs, put it to the FL and get the competition rules changed. Meanwhile, everyone is subject to the same rules and the rest get on with it. Heart-warming to know they can afford to chuck £5k away on a fine like loose change. I'm sure their former creditors are thrilled.

It's easy to suggest the merits of the competition when your club has a squad size to handle the attrition that a cup run would bring.

We won this thing 30 years ago when everyone had similar sized squads and it gave clubs like ours a feasible way at attaining a trip to Wembley and a big crowd. There's far more a divide between clubs at the moment, with the likes of Luton, Notts, Pompey etc having the finances to build strong squads that can manage a tilt at the JPT. For the club's with lesser squads it really is a hindrance on what is more important; ie league survival, or an outside punt at the play offs.

There's perspectives from both angles. My own thoughts are that I'd much prefer an opportunity to stay fresh, injury free and without suspensions for Saturday than have a not too lucrative run in the Meh cup. Though the fans of clubs successfully in to round 2 will consider that as just guff from someone whose team is out.

as a supporter i could do without the interruption to the league games,
but i would have thought any "competitive" game would be more advantageous
to our teams momentum, gelling better and hopefully progressing upwards??!!
why have training or practice sessions when the squad could be tested a bit more
purposefully?
the more games they play surely would help to impact on league form?
my only request would be to keep the same players involved week in week out
to sustain moral etc.
we are only talking about a dozen or so extra games over a season arn't we?
squads can cope with that ..can't they??
if my team was to lose a game once every fortnight or so, i would rather
it be in a game of less significance than a league fixture.

I can 100% accept fans who don't have interests in cup or feel the LC and FA cup are more interesting and can also accept people worried about an injury or two( although even on that point its pot-luck....players can be as injured in training having been dropped than in game)

but I never accept this claim that an extra 4-5 games will somehow ruin all chances of doing well in league games, I cannot believe it makes that much difference at all. If you fail to do anything in league due to playing an extra 5 odd games your squad isn't good enough rather than cup affecting your performance in my own view.

ah well still FA to go for yet.

I suppose, personally speaking, we have certain players that are integral to the first team (same as every club) but would leave a massive hole if they picked up an injury, more so than a club with larger squads.

Beating Notts in the JPT is probably less important than losing someone like Green or Tafazolli for a month with an injury.

Personal opinion though. And like I said previous, we move on and good luck to Notts in the competition.

I agree fully with you. As BigDaveCUFC points out it's only five games, but what if we won a few games in the FA Cup too? We could quite feasibly end up playing 50+ games if we progressed in either competition. We only have a squad of 23 and that's including several youngsters, a few unproven players, a guy who's recovering from a serious injury and a few strikers and forward players who aren't that great. If an important first team player such as Matt Green was to pick up an injury for a month or two we wouldn't have the quality to replace him. At the very least a little fatigue might start to creep in and undermine the league campaign.

For now I'm perfectly happy for us to treat the earlier rounds of the JPT as a bit of a doss. Of course it would be nice to reach the latter stages but in the earlier rounds it's just not worth risking it if you don't have strength in depth in my opinion. If we somehow fluked it through a couple of rounds then maybe to start to treat it with the same significance as we do the league. But it's our performance in the league not our performance in the JPT that will measure the progress we have made this season.

Which is why I was pleased Adam was pretty uninterested in his interviews before and after the cup loss - he has his priorities right for us this season and played the backups, not quite sure how so many people got their knickers in a twist over it.

If we'd gotten past Port Vale we'd have been drawn home to Blackpool.

That's a disappointment as that's pretty much a bye to the next round.

Wycombe at home. Not a bad draw, winnable for sure. Means we've got them two games running though I think
