Dont see any team getting promoted surviving next season unless they invest big in the Summer

We were absolutely wank last season and would have stayed up but for the points deduction. Championship is very hit and miss and the majority of the teams lack consistency hence why they’re at that level. Coventry have shown it can be done and Blackpool have had some great wins this year.

On the other hand, there are plenty of teams in the Championship that are heavily in debt due to overspending and might end up being the next Sheffield Wednesday and Derby.

The Championship is garbage this year, even West Brom look poor under that manager, they'll still probably go up though.

Hardly any money spent in the summer, every team heavily reliant on set pieces & long throws, very few games are won by quality. It's a great time to get promoted and try to consolidate.

Definitely more points deductions on the way you feel.

The wages being paid in the championship are killing clubs. Parachute money is all and well if you go straight back up. Teams like Forest .Blackburn and Reading are losing money hand over fist all is ok until your owner turns the tap off like he did with us and Derby.

Supposedly the Venkys set up a company with the sole purpose of re-buying Blackburn's training ground for £18m so they could pass FFP. Same thing Mel Morris did at Derby with Pride Park.

Gonna sound a mixture of arrogant and bullish here, but if we go up (obviously a big if), I'd fancy us to stop up just about. We've already got a good enough defence to do so. Just need an upgrade in central midfield and on the wings along with a good physical striker. Probably a better goalkeeper as well, but the foundations are there. Whatmough, Kerr, Watts (if he were to sign permanently), Cousins, Lang, Keane, McClean are all good enough for the Championship. Joe Bennett would be as well, provided this injury hasn't ruined him. Most importantly we've got a good enough management team.

I'd be interested to see what Rotherham fans think about their side as they've taken over our crown as the specialist Championship/L1 yo-yo side.

Got to agree with the players you mention. It all depends what these players have wrote in there contracts.
You are already paying way more out than you are taking in
You like us have new owners and have splashed the cash this season.
The players you mention have mostly played in the Championship and looked ordinary

They were unlucky last year too. I think they’d probably have stayed up but for having that massive backlog towards the end of the season when they seemed to run out of steam.

I know he's having a good season but Will Keane definitely isn't Championship standard.

I can fully understand you and any other fan saying that as you'll have only ever known him as the carthorse striker that every other club have played him as before joining us. But he's a totally different player to the Will Keane of years past. Has played as a number ten ever since Richardson got his hands on him, utilising his ability on the ball and its transformed him. Watch his assist from this weekend and you'll see what I mean. Having said that, you may well be right but I hope we can find out next season.

If we were to go up and stay up (again a massive if), I'm sure we'd sell Lang for 10 million minimum in summer 2023, which should offset most of the losses we'd make building a squad good enough for the Championship. Locking him down on a four year deal was the best bit of business the new ownership have done since coming in. Kerr will no doubt prove a sellable asset in time as well, as will Aasgaard (the newest academy gem).

Until parachute payments are obliterated and redistributed evenly across the Championship, the only way clubs like us can break even at that level is player trading. That goes for most of the league.

Weren't they one goal away from staying up and sending Derby down? Conceded in the last five minutes to Cardiff on the last day which sent them down?

He looked better playing as a ten for us to be fair, just doesn't have the physical attributes to be an effective striker.

Agreed, I think he's got the ability on the ball and the positional sense to play at that level in the number ten position though with a big striker in front of him.

On a side note, what's going on at PNE? Not trying to dick wave here, but I think we had more home fans on in our last home game against Burton than you did Saturday (granted televised, shit weather etc). Blackburn's home crowds have fallen off a cliff as well and their pushing play-offs. Are folk just getting bored of mid-table Championship every season or is there a problem within the club upsetting fans? I only ask because without Hemmings it feels like you lot are heading towards a dangerous crossroads considering what happened to us and Bolton after we lost our local benefactor.

We're sick of that con man Ridsdale running us with the least effort possible. Absolutely no plan in place, the cheapest possible yes man of a manager, disgustingly poor football since 2019, awful decision making and constantly being fed bullshit.

We play Blackburn on Saturday and I bet it's our lowest following there since the 80s. Rip off tickets but the apathy is a bigger reason.

The Hemmings family won't be going anywhere for a good while, too much invested and I'm convinced they benefit from owning us in some form or another. They make no attempt to boost income, or reduce reliance on them. I can only assume it's a big tax dodge.

What are Preston fans long term ambition’s though? A great old club, no doubt about that, but where do you think you can realistically challenge?

Bounced around the lower leagues for a while before reaching Championship level too.

It's similar to Huddersfield is it not? Championship team who have that one great season and make the playoffs for a year or two in the Prem.

Preston have had a few playoff runs over the last 20 years or so, including losing a final to West Ham in 2005.

I've no issue with being a middling Champ club, we've been there for 17 of the last 21 years, but there needs to be some sort of strategy & ambition (not necessarily financially). Instead we make the same mistakes year-on-year.

With a good appointment and less stupidity in the market the top six was definitely attainable this year.

Brentford showed how to do it, Huddersfield showed it can be done sensibly, and now Barnsley & Luton are doing things with a structure. Whereas we are run like it's still 2002, with a 70yr old man running every aspect of the club.

Remotely watchable football might entice a few fans back too.

We were in the Championship playoffs 4 times between 2000-2010, less financial disparity then though.

Alex Neil would have got us into the top 6 in 2018 if he was given any sort of backing. Instead we sold our main striker for £10m and replaced him with two bags of shite for a combined £900k.

We should have stayed up last season we were forced to play 8 games between the 2nd to 24th April because of the matches we were forced to postpone due to Covid issues in the squad.

We could be accused of not being careful enough but it did feel like we were being punished by the EFL, who lets face it would much rather we weren't in the Championship.

TBF the Championship can be a pretty dispiriting place when you are just hoping to get to 50 points but I do believe that if this team/squad were playing in the Championship this year, we would have a realistic chance of staying up.

We might lose a few players in January but Warney is quite adamant we don't have to sell. Having said that, I don't believe he would stand in the way of a player leaving if it benefits all parties.
If we CAN hang on to everybody, we certainly have a good chance of Yo Yo ing once again, this is a better squad than the last 2 who got promoted,

I think both Preston and Blackburn have stagnated in the Championship. As daft as it seems you need to go up or down to get interest in the club....If you was in Wigans position you would be getting gates around 15/20k

Last time we went down Ridsdale employed Graham Westley, I think there are still some who have never properly returned from that debacle.
