What did you think of the game on Saturday mate?

To be truthful I thought you were very average. You had no other clear chances in the second half other than the two goals which were both fortunate deflections. Particulary the second one. We weren't great and faded in the second period. It was just about a fair result on the balance of play but on another day we could taken another one of our chances in the first half and got a point

I was at Villa Park :ffs:
I've heard we played hoof ball first half and then played on the deck 2nd half and you couldn't deal with us. What's going on at Alfreton though? In the conference last season and now struggling this season.

Not too down about us losing away to budget breaking Cheltenham. We still played some good stuff and bad refereeing evens itself out over the course of a season. Hopefully the team and Mills will have learnt something from that second half and comeback fighting stronger. Nice finish for their second goal.
Glad to read that as it's pretty much how.I feel. I was starting to think I was just a blinkered happy clapper.

Ah Ok.

Id concur with that really.

You could say likewise regarding Telford. We have decided to go down the route of blooding a team of kids and we are missing outfiield experience and desperately need a holding midfielder. We are also extremely weak upfront and what with Dan Bradleys lack of discipline and subsequent 7 game ban plus injures to other key players Bradley and Thanoj its been a tough start.

Hoping we have turned the corner today though.

Mangan is a little tart so Jennings would have flattened him, whoever this Jennings is. I remember warning the Tranny fans about the squad they were assembling, a lot of talented but bad bellends in there which could go either way. Knowing Brabin he probably organised the fight for team spirit.

Undone by set pieces yet again, rubbish.
O and a stubborn manager unwilling to drop his favourites.

Decent win for us today although a draw was probably the right result given the balance of play. We were as bad as we have been all season in the first half and didn't start playing until they scored. Quite possibly it was due to playing eighty minutes with ten men down at Torquay but we also played poorly for 45 minutes against Barrow.

Got to give credit to Wrexham though first team to come here and attack us, they played well for sixty minutes but were shattered and our class told towards the end. Overall we definitely did not play well but that was the first game between two of the big promotion contenders and we picked up three points so got to be happy with that.

You played some nice stuff , first team to give us a game. As I said above as bad as we were first half you lot played well and deserved a draw in my opinion.

Ps. how much you want for the little lad on the wing, he was best player on the pitch today, would love to see him in a red & white shirt.

A draw would have been fair overall, Wrexham the better side until they scored and us the better side afterwards. Cracking finish from Amari to win it.

As for the penalty incident, think it might have been harsh to give it as it was fired at him from close range and there's no way he could've got out the way, but then it would have gone in so you can see why Wrexham will feel aggrieved. One of those where if it's against you, you don't think it's a pen, if it's for you, you do think it's a pen.

Wrexham arguably lucky to have 10 men themselves though after Amari was tugged down when through on goal in the first half, but the ref had given a free kick to Wrexham for no reason. Oh well, happy with the 3 points :D

You forget that we are managed by the Millsiah. We will be going away from home and attacking every side who dare to step in our path, hopefully without goalkeepers deciding to have the matches of their careers against us. We technically lost but we won the passing and that is worth 3 in Mills points.

Yeah I also thought Vose was very impressive for you. Was quite noticeable that when he faded out of the game towards the end you seemed to lose a lot of your threat.

Bit surprising. Mangan was probably Rovers MOM and Jennings had one of his better games. Harris having a go at Riley after the final whistle too.
Mangan is never far from trouble, that's the reason we sacked him! Him and Norwood both dickheads...

One aspect of this Gary Mills Wrexham I'm really happy with is not doing draws. I've never liked draws. Wins get you the points and losses teach you how to get more wins.

Draws are wasted effort and for mediocre sides. We don't do mediocrity this season, we do awesome with a dash of diabolical.

Youre always welcome to come up to North Wales for our home games if you want to watch Vose play in red and white :2thumb:

Credit to the numbers of Barrow fans who made the trip today (aside from one moron with a banger) in good voice and have a song based around my favourite song from my raving days. Obviously they will feel rightly mugged but as others have said on our forum, in recent seasons we've had plenty of games where we left thinking 'how the hell have we lost that' so it's good to be the beneficiaries for once.

If we can get something out of the trip to Aldershot then the next three games after that give us a chance to finally start our season.

Name that tune, it's been winding me up. What an earworm.

Baaaarrrooooooooowwwwww...

Well looks like the Barrow "fans" have turned on the manager - almost always no coming back from that. Sad really, as the games I've seen we've played decent football and sounds like we were unlucky today.
Probably the same at most teams, but we usually have a couple of spells in the season where we are shite, then go on a run of 10 unbeaten - very little consistency. I think we've got a decent enough squad for mid-table, but probably not if they're going to dump the manager after 4 away defeats. If our home form's good then it won't be the biggest problem - we've had seasons where we haven't won on the road until about March.
Biggest problem is we've got Eastleigh next and defence is low on confidence. This could be a long season.

Good result against Grimsby.
Despite their average start, I still expect them to finish in the top three this season alongside Eastleigh and Forest Green and I'm happy we have played 2 of those 3 away already.

See Guthrie isn't starting for FGR, what's the news on that? Injured? Dropped for Parkin? Rested?

Dropped thanks to his reaction to being shifted out wide at Kiddy apparently. Skulked about a bit and didn't celebrate the goals, but he's been top drawer this season so a bit harsh from Pennock really, something from nothing. At least with Parkin coming in, we're spoilt for options ( though he wasn't great yesterday) and players know they've got to play well and show a good attitude to stay in the side.

And yep, we're looking pretty decent from set-pieces. Trying to emulate the likes of Mansfield and Histon on that front it seems, nice change from previously where we generally just used to be crap at defending them.

23, 22, 20, 19, 18, 18, 23.

The ages of the midfield/forward lines that won us back that game.

Hopefully they're gelling now. Weird that I woke up this morning thinking "Wait, we won yesterday!" for once.

Got a feeling we'll suffer our first defeat tonight.

With McLennan's red from Saturday not being overturned we now have no recognised left back. I think we have a little weakness in defence and having seen Dominic Vose's run for his goal on Saturday, that is exactly where we look vulnerable.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic due to the fact we are unbeaten and I know we can't keep it up forever.

Quote saved.

After we had a very tough game away to Torquay 48hrs previously with 10 men for 83 mins.

You should save it. I predict you will finish about tenth, unless you invest heavily in January as the promotion contenders are all going to do. That isn't sour grapes, you aren't a bad side, probably the bestbside we have played so far this season, but comes from experience of 8 years down here. As for us we might just scrape a play off spot if we are lucky with injuries.

We also had a game on Saturday and play a high tempo game.

As for the penalty shout. It was a definite penalty and by the laws of the game would have been a red too. A little harsh as I doubt it was deliberate, but it was a clear goal scoring opportunity that Downes stopped.

We always used to get to Christmas and hope to have around 20 odd points on the board to give us half a chance of staying up. To have 21 points in August takes the piss really.

From the FA's website:

Handling the ball Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration: • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement

By your own words it wasn't deliberate, ergo it wasn't a penalty.

I have seen them given though.

I wonder what FGR's secret is?

:£:£:£:£:£:£

I wasn't sure about some of your signings this season but from what I've seen your squad looks a lot more balanced than in previous seasons. Pennock obviously has a plan and looks like it's working so far!

Fair does. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. But now having read that it was clearly a deliberate attempt to stop a goal scoring opportunity

As you say you see those given all the time, you also see them not given. Luck tends to even out over a season. Just one of those things. Whose to say we'd have scored it? If we'd been sharper in front of goal and not so sloppy in defence we'd have won. Objectively it was a good game to watch with both sides trying to win it.

I still stand by my mid-table comment...but I've been wrong before!
