As much as I'd hate that sort of advertising board being around Dagenham, it's not the worst marketing idea in the world, especially if you're trying to encourage young kids to come to the ground.

Still tinpot, mind ;)

When Kevin Hill reached 400 league games for Torquay, only the 4th player to do this in 110 years, he was given a suitably heartfelt memento.

After a backlash by fans he was eventually given an engraved plate I think, although a few weeks after the actual game.

How has it cost them £650? Someone making something on the side perhaps?

It's being put up in the centre of town so assume that's the cost of renting the ad space for a bit.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
I've rented more than a few ad boards in my time, and if they've bought £650's worth, the joke will be pretty stale by the time it eventually comes down.

Welling have a column in their match day programme, written by one of the directors, called "Boardroom Banter". o_O

That's quite common. Macc have always had a 'From the Boardroom' page.

In our last year down here, Hereford offered Kidderminster fans free curry to come and support Hereford the night we won 2-1 to all but clinch the title.

Most of us on this thread support clubs who aren't exactly flush with cash but those with money like to up the tinpot stakes when it comes to gift ideas:

I take it since Fayad has gone then now have Sahid Khan USB sticks.

Every like this photo receives will raise awareness for the plight of discarded Tesco Trolley Parks. With your help they can find new homes at Non-League football grounds. Shown here is one lucky example at Teversal. Complete with what appears to be a player urinating in the corner.

I'm going to be charitable and call that 'innovative'.

A sponsored stand is nothing new, that's going one step further.

Or Dartford giving away 10,000(?) tickets and hardly getting any take-up on it at all.

Was discussing the Conference in the pub last night, just readying ourselves for when we drop back down. I can remember getting into Barrow for free one year because they had ran out of change on the turnstiles!

Club toasters are a Bundesliga thing, I think most clubs over there do them. Also rubber ducks. They love toast and baths. Obviously.

I can't be bothered to look for it right now, but there was one club, might have even been dortmund, where there was a cock up, and the toasters were making Barca toast... (was just FCB rather than the full badge, which would have been mightily impressive

Clearly a screw up at the factory (likely in china) which makes them all. Still funny though.

(p.s. for those on tenterhooks I haven't forgotten my promise for the long post with regards to ground grading, or lack thereof).

Of course! That makes a bit more sense in how it is made, but just makes me wonder about both where I originally heard about it, and myself for not picking up on that!
